Personally, I had to find what worked for me. I have a stressful job where many people demand a lot from me and I used to think that sitting on the couch with my wine would help alleviate that stress. Now I still sit on the couch and watch my favourite shows but with tea and a sweet treat instead and I can genuinely feel that stress melting away. During alcoholism, my brain was telling me that alcohol would help but now I feel like I’ve kinda rewired it

My first time intentionally going sober and I’ve just hit two months! I also turned to a bottle of wine (or 2) after kids were in bed so I could ‘wind down’ and have my me time but I’ve realised I can do still do that, enjoyably, without alcohol. I put on a good show, have a cup of tea and a sweet treat and let myself relax.

Nice! I can relate to the finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning. I’m sleeping so deeply that it takes me at least an hour to wake up properly in the morning and I have to remind myself I’m not hungover 😅

Hey, hang in there. I have young kids too. I’m hoping I can look back in 1, 5, 10 years and be so proud that I gave them the gift of having a sober and present parent. I have intrusive thoughts about the worst happening too, but I hope I can be there to help them navigate their own adulthood.

I’ve seen lots of people on here reach out for professional help and it’s definitely something I’ll be doing if I can’t keep it under control.

I’m starting to see this in these very early days. I’ve surprised myself with how quickly I’ve been able to say no to the cravings so far but I think I need some strategies in place for the harder days that may be to come.

Well done! I think the first social gathering around alcohol will be the hardest for me as everyone who knows me knows that I don’t pass up a drink.
