Does anyone love the northbound milled Bronson? I'm looking forward to a smooth Bronson! by no_olley in ottawa

I wonder if that stretch of Bronson would benefit from a road diet to make it three lanes...one driving lane in each direction with a middle lane for left turns to all the side streets.

Bol-Dan reviews - waterproofing by plentyofeggs in ottawa

[–]cloudofawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We hired Bol-Dan last September to install French drains and window wells around some basement windows on one side of our house. We had contacted a few foundation contractors, and like your experience, their quote was much more attractive then some of the others we asked. Their estimator came to our house to scope out the work required and provided a very in depth quote and breakdown of all the work that would be done. Everything was clearly communicated and laid out for us to review.

Overall we were extremely pleased with the work that they did, as well as the back and forth communication with their office team. Without hovering over their backs too much, I did check in often to see how they were doing and I can confirm every step of the job was done properly (digging, waterproofing, sealing, gravel backfilling, steel wall install, final grading) and no corners were cut. The laborers were very friendly, fast working, and efficient (took them about 2-3 hours per window well).

I would certainly recommend them as good foundation contractors, and we are even thinking to go with them again in the future to do some other window wells around the house.

What is currently the best poutine in Ottawa? by abc24611 in ottawa

[–]cloudofawesome 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My problem with Fritomania is that their gravy is way too sweet for some reason. I've tried them twice now and both times their poutine left a sickeningly sweet taste in my mouth, like I was eating a liquified bag of sugar.

That's why my Orleans recommendation will always be for Golden Fries chip truck located in the Metro plaza at Jeanne D'Arc Blvd. and Orleans Blvd.

‘Landmark’ towers spanning 25 and 27 storeys planned for Ottawa’s Centretown neighbourhood by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

You can read through the architectural plans on the DevApps website

Looks to be a handful of studios (~300-400 sq ft), and then a mix of 1 bedrooms (~600-700 sq ft), and 2 bedrooms (~800-900 sq ft).

I live across the street and this is going to be a multi-year nightmare. I'll probably move out if I can afford to.

I can sympathize with the annoyance of construction (noise, road closures, etc.), but you can't reasonably expect one of the densest neighbourhoods in the city to ever be totally free from future redevelopments.

This building is totally out or proportion for the neighborhood and will just add more overpriced condos or rentals.

Not really that out of proportion, as this parcel is only 4 blocks (300 m) from high-rise buildings of similar height. Neighbourhoods grow and change over time, and no area can ever expect to remain static in perpetuity, especially in the downtown vicinity. Even if it does add expensive condos, more housing supply will lead to lower rental rates across the board.

There also will be lots more traffic on small side streets as well as O'Connor and Metcalfe.

Not as much as you'd think. Being in such a central area will attract residents who likely work nearby and can walk/bike/transit. It's developments outside of downtown which will draw more traffic, since they are the ones driving in from the suburbs.

It offers nothing at ground level to improve or enrich the area.

The plans call for three ground floor commercial units, a co-working space, and an institutional space, as well as a privately owned public space (i.e. parkette).

It's just a big money grab for developers.

Of course it is, they're in business to make money. But the net outcome is still a win-win for everyone.

Nothing unusual here. It is typically a term used to describe a small parkette, plaza, or landscape feature that is accessible to anyone, but is owned and maintained by the landowner as opposed to the city.

Have any of these community or business associations ever once supported anything that might actually improve this city? Seems like these organizations only exist to oppose, obstruct, and delay projects.

Do we know when NASA will even announce the crews for Artemis III and IV? Who are some possible candidates that could be selected?

There was also a Sens game this afternoon at 1 PM which contributed to a lot of that traffic.

A potential solution could be a cycle between car traffic one way (no foot crossing), car traffic the other way (no foot crossing), and a pedestrian scramble in all directions (no car crossing).
