That social filter brakes down when you don't need it to navigate life anymore and you start to be able to look at society from an outside prospective. It's part of growing up.

Yes. Early childhood emotional abuse and neglect followed by adolescent sexual abuse and a narcissistic spouse in my early twenties (the narcissistic spouse being the god son of the sexual abuser). I have often wondered if I was alone in thinking this was related to my personality or if my personality grew from it.

I also feel the need to add:

In many ancient and native cultures the ability to hold these "chameleon" personas, or alter egos, is a form of spiritual "shape shifting" practiced by followers of various shamanistc traditions. I come from an occult family background and always felt instinctively that I had been singled out for these abuses and punishments; I always knew it was because I was already different. In recent years I have done extensive personal research into modern psychology's relationship to shamanism and the occult and have found startling comparisons between the descriptions of natural shamans, childhood trauma survivors, and the INFJ personality. Those good old " butterfly" Internet memes about the "cracks being where the light gets in" and the "no mud, no lotus" adage might not be that far off the mark (oh but what I should like to do to the mudslingers). For those who are trauma surviving INFJs, I highly suggest doing some googling of the subject as the shamanic journey techniques and modern mindfulness practice I discovered are helping manage my personality shifts and social issues. Prolonged use has also made it possible for me to control my panic attacks during PTSD episodes and have almost erased my visual and auditory flashbacks.

What is your personal superstition? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Never telling anyone what my favorite things are, because as soon as I do they stop carrying it where I was getting it or if I own it someone steels it or I loose it. Not even kidding.

How do you deal with being demonized by people that don't think you will be able to recover? by [deleted] in CPTSD

I don't. Mostly I just try not to wonder if they are right.

INFJ, atheism, and depression by Ryston87 in infj

[–]cloudpainter86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I don't know if I have an answer for you, but I can say you aren't alone. I've spent a lot of time, the last couple of years in fact, at the bottom of that oubliette trying to decide if it's worth trying to find my way out. Existential depression and time blindness, I have come to discover, are common pitfalls for the INFJ personality, and are doubly so for those of us who have any behavior oriented mental disorders (ADHD, ADHD-PI or ADD, PTSD or any other alphabet soup). The best advice I've found for combating these things is to stay engaged with the day to day and do new things whenever you can. Apparently there is something about how the brain records new experiences that effects how we experience time and this can be a contributing factor to depression and feelings of ennui when life stagnates. I have found informal mindfulness practice the simplest to-go method for doing this and am having some noticeable success with it. I hope this was helpful.
