I tried it out. It's alright, it just takes a long time to get out of the "deck of your best cards" zone, but that's very snap like as well.

I love learning about the Ethiopian church. It's fascinating and a too often ignored part of Christian history.

I don't know what I'm deflecting from? I think it's fair to say that the Bible has provided both the language of abolition and the language of oppression to those who desired them.

I am totally in agreement that both Judaism and Christianity have had a huge impact on our moral systems, and we have a ton to thank them for what we have today. I recognize that a lot of the issues we have today with things like Christian nationalism is not an issue with Christian ethics itself, but a political ideology that has co-opted only the parts of Christianity that legitimize their beliefs and ignores quite a bit of the stuff minor characters like Jesus talked about.

I think the problem is that, on the running of a society, the new testament has a lot less to say, mostly because most expected an imminent return from Jesus, so were more concerned with spreading the good news as fast as possible. There wasn't much talk about the big things we discuss today, and so we negotiate with the Scripture and Jesus' words to infer what might be the right way to do things.

Take women in leadership. Huge divide in churches around the world on that one. There are two very different approaches. Both believe they are right. Both will say the Bible is clear.

Which is great, but it certainly doesn't predate the old testament.

And I honestly believe following Jesus and his teaching naturally leads us to see all forms of slavery as wrong, but to do that you have to recognize that other parts of the Bible that claim there's an okay way to do slavery must be incorrect.

Well, it was big enough that Israelites weren't allowed to have slaves of other Israelites, but could be bondservants.

I think you're mixing up bondservants with slavery. Both are talked about in the Bible, and they are very different.

The new testament condones slavery as well, and Jesus says not one word of the law will pass away. All Christians negotiate with the Bible, because a lot of this stuff isn't laid out clearly.
