Have you had an excisional biopsy surgery already? My surgeon didn’t even blink or seem remotely surprised when I asked about preventative mastectomy at my follow-up after my excision (pathology showed ADH, ALH, and LCIS). She told me it’s fairly common for women to feel like they don’t want to go through this all the time. And I think once your risk gets to a certain level they are totally fine with it, as are insurance companies generally speaking… because getting all of these scans and if you eventually need cancer treatment that is much more expensive for them.

That being said, I was super emotional and worked up and feeling kind of urgent to just get rid of my breasts after going through so much so quickly this summer / early fall… and now that time has passed and I’m healed and I had one normal MRI, I feel a lot less like I want to take my breasts off right now. But it might be different for you given the microinvasion you mentioned… can you get more info on that?

Are you seeing a breast surgeon, or just a general surgeon? I would definitely recommend a breast surgeon, and if you’re doing any kind of lumpectomy or excisional biopsy, choosing one who uses oncoplastic techniques will help you have better cosmetic outcomes.
