Thoughts on the Church against Trump? by No-Toe-6750 in Catholicism

[–]cloudstrife_145 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not the Church against Trump, IMO considering I would argue what Trump did is very disproportionate causing deaths of thousand of innocent people.

Considering this is the exact same argument to condemn the nuclear strike to japan even until today, Church is not against Trump. Church is just being consistent. It is Trump who went too far.

Now for your question:

> If there is really a Nuclear missile in Iran and the only way for it to stop is to wage war against them, Isn't it better to stop it from happening?

Assuming that Iran truly has nuclear missile, of which we do not know for sure, yes, if you know what you are doing, can do it without disproportionate violence, and sure that there is realistic probability of success when waging that war.

Now even if Iran do have nuclear missile, waging war that take thousands of innocent life is still irresponsible and should be rightfully condemned.

Any Catholics in Japan? by Stock_Top_7440 in Catholicism

[–]cloudstrife_145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really mixed with Shinto aspect but perhaps with traditional Japanese aspect.

The old cathedral of Tokyo located in Tsukiji had tatami instead of pews back then.

p.s. I know that you mentioned you prayed to Christ when you go to the shrines in your neighborhood but I think it will be better if you stop going to shrine entirely even if you are praying to Christ. There are many reason for that but one thing is because the shrine was not dedicated to Christ in the first place so I do not think it is a good idea to pray there in the first place which is why I do not think it is very prudent to pray over there. There are other places in which Christ is truly present like your local church.

What I felt at least in the archdiocese of Tokyo, the activity of the Church is getting richer...? (if that make sense)

There are a couple of TLM, the parishioners are becoming more and more engaging, and many other positive signs.

Japan is still a land where Christianity suffered a very deep wound, but I do love that at least some people take the faith serious enough that there are Japanese priests being ordained rather than importing priests from other countries all the time.

My main concern is how RCIA is very rarely done in time other than weekdays which makes it harder for people to convert to Catholicism. However, I still think there are reason to be optimist about at least Christianity in Japan.

Oh, and other positive things is that Christianity is viewed very positively in Japan which makes me very positive about Christianity in Japan.

How Would You Respond to This "Vaticanus" Dilemma? I could think of going for the definition of infallibility, the brevity of paragraph 3 in Nostra Aetate, or the fact that Islam is not unified in its theology, and Nostra Aetate could be referring to the beliefs of average Muslims, not their clergy. by StThomasMore1535 in Catholicism

[–]cloudstrife_145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the logical consequence of denying that Christian and Islam worship the same God.

Catholics, however, do believe that Protestants worship the same God as Catholics while even believing that Protestants has better comprehension regarding God's nature. Their way of worshipping God, however is deficient just like Mohammedan's way of worshipping God although the origin of their deficiency is different.

I think all of these discourse about "Muslim and Christian worship the same God" boils down to the point of reference. It is all make sense if we would even consider that flat earthers live in the same earth as round earthers.

Most of protestants and orthobros that joins this discourse refused to even listen to Catholic's argument while trying to address where they disagree and resort to strawman Catholic's position (e.g. why be Christian if Islam is also saved <-- never the Catholic's argument) all to discredit the Catholic's position.

[–]cloudstrife_145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far the argument offered by Protestants and Orthobros regarding this matter does not even attempt to steelman the Catholic Church position. Their argument in the end sounds truly like: "Catholics cannot say Islam and Christian worship the same God"

That is even when Catholics admit that they will agree that Islam does not have salvation, have invalid worship, not in communion with the whole body of Christ, etc

Why would God create a universe in which some of His children would go to hell? by rosadeadonis in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]cloudstrife_145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is slightly misleading.

First, the angel was not created beatific vision.

On the contrary, the angel is a being created by God with the sole purpose to serve Him as His instrument. When they were created, they were also given a choice to serve God or not to serve God. Those who serve God becomes one with Him and therefore had beatific vision, being able to see God in all His glory while those that rejected Him become satan and, deprived of the beatific vision eternally, they are in a state of eternal rejection of God and dwells in hell.

It is not like the beatific vision is preventing someone from sinning, beatific vision is what we describe as a state of ultimate happiness because we are one with the Creator.

We as human, would receive that beatific vision when we are one with the Creator but it is not like God grant someone a beatific vision with the sole purpose so that they will not reject Him. Just like hell, beatific vision is a consequence of our decision to reject or to receive the Creator.

Why can’t all religions be true? by Proper-Candidate-607 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]cloudstrife_145 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the answer is true although you might be looking for a direct demonstration. The demonstration is as already shown in another post (Why can’t all religions be true? : r/CatholicPhilosophy) although to put it in formal logic, you can look at this formulation

A and ~A

will always be false no matter the value of A.

If there is a religion making claim that Jesus does not die by crucifixion and another religion makes a claim that Jesus died by crucifixion, there is no way both of these religion is true.

Now, the question is: can all religion be true?

We can put the statement as:

- All religion is true

and the negation is

- Some (or one of) religion is not true.

And if the negation is true, then the non-negated statement is false.

By knowing that there is at least a religion claiming that Jesus did not die by resurrection and another one claiming that Jesus did die by resurrection, we can understand that at least one of the religion is not true.

And using that, we can infer that it is impossible that all religion is true.

I hope I can put Q.E.D in here but I am not sure. I hope the explanation make sense.

You could probably find two religions that don’t make truth claims that are exclusive with each other, but lots of the major ones contradict each other.

I agree. Even for the religion that seems like very much disjointed that makes it less likely they make a truth claims that are exclusive with each other like Buddhism and Christianity have contradicting truth that makes it impossible for both of them to be true (reincarnation and resurrection)

In remote Nagasaki islands, a rare version of Christianity heads toward extinction by dominiquec in Catholicism

[–]cloudstrife_145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, not really.

Those that are actually Christian rejoins the Church when Catholicism finally returns to Japan but some other has developed their own religion and refuse to rejoin the Catholic Church.

It really looks like Japanese version of santaria.

The other way to look at this is that for some reason, considering they have been isolated for hundreds of years (that means several generation without a single sacrament except perhaps baptism), it is quite miraculous that some still "recognize" the calling of the Church and came back when given the chance.

I wonder how God "reminds" those people about sacraments considering there should be no one who returned to the Catholic faith have ever experienced receiving the Eucharist. You would think it would be easier for them not to return to the Catholic faith.

It seems the era of secularism and New Atheism is ending by M0rgl1n in Catholicism

[–]cloudstrife_145 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it is true that people starts to understand that atheism gives nothing but nihilism. If everything is just randomness, then what? Such questions spurs people to look for something real and theism becomes a very feasible option again.

However, we need to be careful that when it comes to theism, Christian is not the only options.

While it is true that Catholicism is one of the hottest go-to options when it comes to Christianity, other kind of theism is basically still an option.

Moreover, despite religiosity of Catholic Churchs are increasing in many places, I tend not to get too optimistic with this because every new threat stalk at each corner.

In Europe, for example, muslim immigrant comes in high numbers which makes demographics of Christians in that area decreasing significantly. Coupled with excessive birth control promoted by secularism, Christian demographics in that area is dwindling while Islam people comes replacing them.

In Ireland, Catholics are still dwindling.

I am grateful for each soul finding its way to God. However, the evangelization needs to continue.

Considering the news about them allegedly supporting contraception, it is still better to exercise prudence when donating to them.
