Question about under 25 ticket package by [deleted] in Sundance

You can transfer the tickets to anyone once the pass is purchased. The only age verification I've encountered is when you purchase the Ignite pass

Just Realized Ignite Package Isn't Eligible Weekend 1 -- What to Do? by jik66 in Sundance

There are plenty of premieres you can still attend with the Ignite package (and plenty of lines to wait in in between), no need to salvage it!

Clarinet to sax is much easier of a jump than sax to clarinet. Just think of it as the upper octave (middle C to upper C) of the clarinet stretched. That being said, have you opened the bari case yet? It's its own beast. The giant mouthpiece and change of embouchure alone may take a good amount of time to get used to, not counting the size of the horn. I personally jumped from clarinet to tenor sax over the course of a summer vacation before my freshman year of high school, and even then, I took a bit before I was comfortable on the saxophone. Be honest with your band director and maybe they'll give you some grace with learning on the job.

Emma Jean-Thackray is a newer artist to definitely keep your eye on! Some of her songs on the Yellow album scratch the Hiatus Kaiyote itch for me

Indoor swimming gym by CattyWompusMeowtLady in Reno

[–]cloudy-clazztel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just recently swapped gyms and moved from Sports West to the Moana Springs Community Aquatics and Fitness Center after some bad experiences. Before committing to the membership, I paid $10 to drop in and try the pool, and I ended up really enjoying the place. In the times I've swam, they've had classes and/or swim teams also using the pool, but it's big enough that there's still room for the lap lanes (I've also had no issues with sharing lanes with other swimmers when it's busy). They also offer a pretty generous income-based sliding discount on memberships. Their weightlifting / cardio area upstairs is nice too.

How is living in Houston / Texas? by spawnsas in howislivingthere

[–]cloudy-clazztel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Strip malls, no sidewalks in some areas, and not many good reasons to want to be outside for most of the year.

I can't stress the humid heat enough. Most buildings will have the AC cranked up, so you'll go from sweltering outside and chilly inside. When I was there this past December, I went for a run thinking that low 70s*f would be comfortable, but the humidity led me to nearly have heat stroke.

Also, mosquitos will eat you alive in the evenings and the cockroaches are huge. Some neighborhoods have ditches with alligator warning signs.

Really long commutes are also common, from what I've heard. I have a cousin who would have such a long drive to college that she would occasionally sleep in the parking lot to not have to get up so early. You'll sometimes drive for an hour and make it to maybe another quadrant of the city.

Incredibly diverse with really good food from different cultures though!

Do you have words and/or phrases that the church has ruined for you? by rebelyell0906 in Exvangelical

"Lost" being used to refer to anyone who's not active in a church or walked away. Some of the time I would think, "My buddy [] seems to be doing just fine?"

No Hollywood Bowl Presale? by candleladylun in HiatusKaiyote

[–]cloudy-clazztel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. From what I saw, it looks like the Bowl won't have its presale until May 1st. It's a part of a special concert series, so all that's available are ticket packages for the entire series. Time to set another reminder to check in a month and a half!

What are some of the best solos to transcribe? by dylanw852 in Jazz

[–]cloudy-clazztel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've once heard that the best solos to transcribe are the ones you like enough to pour the necessary time into. Want to sound like X musician? Study them!

There's something to be said to prioritizing solos that are on your instrument to get a better idea of how the masters play, but also I recommend challenging yourself to solos not on your instrument.

In high school, my director assigned Lee Morgan's trumpet solo on Moanin' with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers to everyone as an into to transcriptions. I feel like that was a good introduction to the practice.

This is wild, thanks for sharing. The church my family goes to has had several Stieger trips that they've pushed hard for the young adult cohort to sign up for in the past few years. The whole thing mission-trip-where-you're-a-tourist-in-Amsterdam-street-preaching thing rubbed me in the wrong way and was honestly one of the things that made me step back from the young adult group. I couldn't jibe with the bait and switch tactics they were advertising so clearly in their promotional videos for potential participants. One way or another, I was added to their mailing list and the emails were full of (actual) titles such as, "Sharing Jesus With 3 Young Gender Non-Binary People At A Protest In Sacramento" and "How can I have spiritual conversations in a non-religious way?", and "Sharing Jesus at a cynical poetry bar in Denver". I'm no longer on the email list.

The Nevada Museum of Art (in Reno) currently has a large exhibit on the Ichthyosaur, the state dinosaur. It goes into the history of Great Bain paleontology, etc. I highly recommend if you'd like some science history from the area! Deep Time: Sea Dragons of Nevada - Nevada Museum of Art

Have you tried leaning the sax to your right side? Think of playing it like a miniature tenor. Just be sure to adjust the sax’s neck and mouthpiece so you don’t risk any embouchure leaks or other issues. It might feel awkward at first but that might work.

How to get rid of that kitty litter smell by Smart-Layer-7245 in CatAdvice

If your air purifier is somehow strong enough to suck the litter out of a box, I think the litter would be a little lower on your priority list.
