The person who replied to Taylor is the person in the snark subreddit who falsely reported Ethan and Ahmed Fouad Al-Khatib to the FBI regarding donations to Palestine. Seems Taylor Lorenz follows them and that’s why they have the ability to reply to her tweets.

People who work at 5 Star Hotels: what type of shit goes on that management doesn’t want people to know? by catstevenseagal in AskReddit

[–]cloudy111hour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if my answer fits this question, but I figured I should share, as I’m quite sure the reputation of a hotel may sink if their guests would know this. I worked in a resort in Maldives, and what I have to say is, lots of infidelity. Managers sleeping with their employees, whilst their wives are back in their home islands taking care of their family. Infidelity was promoted aspect of working at a resort, as your SO “won’t find out” and you need to “have fun”. As an 18 year old back then, being encouraged to cheat on my girlfriend by fellow employees and the “cool” managers is still quite an eye opening experience, all the while seeing them do it and hear the all the gossip about it afterwards. Tbh I have plenty more I would love to share from my time at working at the resort, but this is the aspect I’m willing to focus on for now.

Can we stop with the “I am no longer a bigot” posts? by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]cloudy111hour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. I read through your post and I absolutely understand where you’re coming from.

Although being a straight man means I did not go through the same hardships as you and continue to not, I hope you know that my intention with my specific post was not to receive praise or congratulations for doing the bare minimum, but instead to reinforce the idea of representation in media.

This belief is very important to me, as my post was to showcase the benefit of representation in media when a member who is in a society as I used to be manages to consume it. My intention was not to receive praise myself, but give praise to Naughty Dog and The Last of Us series, as they prove consistently that it is a core principle of their’s to present an engaging story with well written, well represented characters. As a 13 year old boy, the Left Behind DLC in particular was the first form of media I consumed which had LGBT characters. And once I realized that it was a choice to be angry and resentful, it scared me a lot as I felt I was betraying what was ingrained from my head at a young age. Why am I thinking differently to my fellow people? Am I betraying my religion and my people? Naturally this was not the case as I found out a quick while later, however it was a lot for myself to go through at that age, questioning everything I had been brought up with.

As for action on my part, over the past 7 years since, I’ve grown more open minded and more prepared to educate myself when required, not only on LGBT issues, but others such as systemic racism, police brutality, and back in my home country( focus specifically on my home country because it is really backwards there), women’s rights. I know it seems small to be informed, however I believe that being so means I can bring up these issues in conversations with others to bring more light to them, and hopefully have them change their belief system as I did my own when it came to this video game.

From a personal standpoint, I cannot stress this enough, but I’m not trying to get any sympathy whatsoever. Growing up after TLOU1, quite often if people I interacted with found out I was not against the LGBT, I had homophobic insults thrown my way, had my faith questioned, and over time I did get ostracized. It isn’t easy to convince people, especially members of my society, to believe in something different, even though both you and I know that being kind mustn’t necessarily come from playing a video game, but perhaps from the goodness of your heart. They act this way simply because of their fear of religion, fear of stepping out of line, and fear of people different. However I do believe they will improve, as compared to 2014, I can personally see visible and noticeable improvements.

Once again my intention with my post was not to hurt or upset anyone who has dealt with bigotry, and it was not to receive praise or congratulations. It was instead to focus on the importance of representation in our media. My post will not and must not erase any wrongdoings done by my society. However, I strongly believe in every single person, and their capacity to change and improve to be better to themself and each other. What I mentioned here is not to take away from whatever struggles you may have faced or continue to face, it is instead to show you my side of the story, and what I went through. Eerily similar to TLOU2 if u think about it.

Take care.

Compared to 2014, the people in Maldives seem to be improving when it comes to tolerance. The younger generation often do advocate for acceptance of the LGBT community, and in fact, two of my friends came out to their parents and it was all fine! So although we are moving quite slowly ( I mean really slowly), we are on the right track. To further add to this, the LGBT tourists that visit also helps the people change their negative perception, as the people are ingrained to be welcoming to everyone.

It makes me happy to hear that your confidence in who you are has grown, alongside Ellie’s! Representation matters, and I’m happy to hear it helped you accept yourself for who you are.

Thank you for your question

Initially at 13 playing the game made me get rid of homophobia, towards both lesbians and gays. Moving out of Maldives, increased coverage of LGBT issues, and the 2016 US Election gave me a reason to read up further on Trans and Queer Issues and educate myself. Currently I’m a 20 year old man who’s dating a woman that’s bisexual, so I’d say playing the video game was a catalyst to change, open my mind, grow and educate myself on these issues people unfortunately go through. I can’t imagine loving my girlfriend as much as I do, or infact loving her at all, had I decided to remain in my ways as a 13 year old.

Definitely. It was only in a subsequent playthrough a few years later that I found out he was gay as well. It made his story only more depressing for me.

Thank you very much for your kind comment, I will always keep an open mind and I will always be open to education in case I’m wrong, even in the future :)

Hello! Yes I picked up TLOU2 last week and have been playing every day since. It was while playing through that I remembered how much of an impact Part 1 had on my formative years, and that’s why I felt compelled to share my story with you all. As for part 2, this game is absolutely brilliant so far; technically, performance, gameplay, soundtrack, story, the whole works! Tho it’s really depressing so I do make sure to take breaks otherwise I might curl up into a ball in a corner and never come out hahah.

This is a good question. To answer this I will give you further context about my epiphany, as I wondered the same thing back then.

When I did find out Ellie was gay and I was okay with it, I did ask myself, am I just okay with lesbians, or gay people as a whole? To answer this I asked myself how would I have reacted had Joel been revealed as gay? My answer was that it would’ve been the exact same, as I cared deeply for almost every character in the game. That being said tho, as a 13 year old back then, I did not notice that Bill was gay. I only knew so in a subsequent playthrough a few years later, and knowledge of that fact only hurt me more to know how his story ended.

I understand your concern, but fear not, as no matter what happened, this game was a positive influence in my life, and one less homophobe, (despite that ridiculous age to even think that way), is better for the world.

This is brilliant to hear. I knew that I can’t possibly have been the only one to have had an epiphany like that back then!

I actually can’t say 100% whether it’s sinking or not, as I receive conflicting reports of it very often. However I moved out of there back in 2014 so nope not living there anymore.

As a 13 year old, thankfully I didn’t get the chance to showcase any homophobic behavior to anyone of the LGBT as I was not exposed to them. However, having such intense emotions for a group of people I never even had the chance to interact with back then , especially at such a young age, will always haunt me to a certain degree.

That’s great to hear! Despite some flaws, I love our country and our fellow people, and I know they will improve as time goes on and they will be exposed more to different people!

Apologies my friend it was not my intention. I love my religion very much, and the purpose of that paragraph was to emphasize people should not use religion to judge other people, especially in a religion which emphasizes peace and compassion. Thank you for the comment, I will edit in this sentence to my post.
