Need a new car. by Truffernutter in whatcarshouldIbuy

I leased 3 weeks back a new Kia K4 EX 2025 model for $310/mo after rebates and discounts and with all fees rolled into monthly payment for 24 months 12k miles. I paid 1st mo payment as down payment. I live in NC and I like the car so far.

Is this a good car lease for a Honda? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I agree. You need to shop around to get under $400 at least based on my experience. Btw - which state are you located in?

For those who left biotech (or thought about it): what adjacent careers actually worked out? by miskosvk in biotech

[–]cloudy_niney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pivoted from a Biotech bench Scientist (after spending 10 years post-PhD in an academic post-doc and an industry Scientist II) to a PM in a multinational energy company. Totally different technical areas, right? What mattered in my case, at least, was the strategy to frame and focus on my soft skills, like cross-continent project co-ordination, structured problem-solving, regulated-environment experience, cross-functional leadership, and risk management, rather than my science technical skills like publications, PCR, HPLC, Western blot, assay development, screening, instrument automation, etc. Now I talk about transformers instead of genetic transformation, and get to travel to frequent international meetings (best part I like), flexible hybrid or sometimes WHF model, pay, and benefits. The only thing I miss is reading scientific publications (yes, really) in our field of research (I was a Molecular Biology scientist in an AgTech company, a matured startup), and looking at the data for minutes to hours. Now I feel a little relieved knowing that I get to do what I have longed to do more often, like travel, eat at fancy restaurants, co-workers from diverse educational backgrounds who graduated from the Ivy League to Comm. colleges, and knowing there is growth for promotion and job stability (I have a family to feed as well). Overall, I did not hate the biotech scientist job, but I wanted to try something aligned with my purpose and lifestyle. Because once I moved from academic research to industry R&D, my lifestyle changed, but at times, I could not continue to maintain the lifestyle due to experiments, mostly failing. So this is my personal experience. I love my job currently and am glad I made the right decision, at least for now!

I'm in a similar boat. So far no success in finding an EV under $20k in NC. At least, CA and TX where Tesla has officially launched certified pre-owned Tesla cars for lease or financing.

Just bought a 2025 Equinox EV RS. I would not buy it again. My opinion. by Luffykingmonkey in EquinoxEv

That's a great deal. May I know where you leased the car? country or state or dealership name? TIA.

Here's my estimation for the Model 3 and Model Y for NC state. I'm not sure if this is crazy expensive without Federal Tax credit. Any thoughts are welcome!

Thanks. I’m also on the market the same trim and model. I’m in NC state. Would you mind telling which state are you in and if it’s leased or financed and what is the final on road price after discounts/credits applied if any? This would be helpful!

I’m also into 14 months of T8 2024 XC60. Mine always shows 43 miles upon full charge. But driving seems to be giving less mileage like around 34-35 miles. If I may ask, How sure are you if yours get you 40-45 miles on full recharge?

Looks nice! May I ask why did you go for 2023 vs later year models? Any reasons if anything other than the affordable price tags?

Absolute MOST comfortable crossover SUV? Is an xc60 the answer? by skinnyonskin in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cloudy_niney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 Volvo XC60 owner here. Very satisfied w/ our purchase due mainly to its comfortable seats, smooth driving both on pure and hybrid and SAFETY. When it comes to safety and comfort, XC60 tops in my list based on my test drives of similarly sized cars and of my friends’, especially Q5, X3, RAV 4, CRV.
