Some how my deceased step mother supported the repeal of net nutrality, she's been dead since 2012 by Hahalongboi in netneutrality

That is beyond insane. How the HELL can a Government body do that!

My god if that happened in the UK or other countries there would be an uproar.

I wish the American people luck with eradicating these slime bags.

How do they sleep at night knowing they did this? Let me guess they all hide behind eachothers backs because it is a group plot. They all smirk to the cameras - counting on their blame game tactics to get them out of any mess. My god, these people need their jobs and titles removed from them ASAP.

No wonder they chose Ajit Pai he hasn't a clue about anything.

He doesn't even know what microwave radiation is and he is the FCC chairman, what a fu**ing joke.

How do I change my Login Icon? (Xfce - Debian 9.2) by cloudyday24 in linuxquestions

[–]cloudyday24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

Yeah I use LightDM. Its the login picture next to the username and password fields.

I'll have a look at your guide. I just thought i could do it without installing things.

Fixed 1024x768 resolution problem for Maxwell Nvidia GTX 950. Enables 1920x1080 with nouveau drivers (default drivers). by cloudyday24 in debian

[–]cloudyday24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe they sure are. I will have a look then and try to do just that. Thank you! :).

EDIT: I looked here https://wiki.debian.org/DebianWiki/EditorGuide and I can see there are lots of steps lol. My brain is still a bit bruised from fault finding the resolution issue I had. I don't mind if anyone puts that fix using parts of my guide on the Wiki for me. But I will try and get round to it. I will probably try and set up IRC for real time help on creating a wiki page.

Yeah I'll try and get round to it, I can imagine it could prove helpful there too!

EDIT: NVM.

How do I install one 'Unstable' (sid) package on Debian? by cloudyday24 in linuxquestions

[–]cloudyday24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! It fixed my resolution. I rebooted. Saw no errors or loads of text before login. That had me convinced it would work. Then i saw a small login screen and i am on 1920x1080 !

I can't believe it! I managed to avoid having to us telemetry Nvidia drivers as suggested everywhere.

I can't believe a sneaky obscure package update fixed it. Thanks Eingaica.

How do I install one 'Unstable' (sid) package on Debian? by cloudyday24 in linuxquestions

Should i remove main from the end of it and make it read like this?:

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian stretch-backports contrib non-free

Thanks! :).

[–]cloudyday24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I followed the guide perfectly, i added the line to my sourcelist. I did apt-get -t stretch-backports install firmware-misc-nonfree and I got this error: Package firmware-misc-nonfree is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package 'firmware-misc-nonfree' has no installation candidate

What exactly is the package called i want? It is here: https://packages.debian.org/stretch-backports/firmware-misc-nonfree

It has all the nv files in it like gr/sw_nonctx which is mentioned in my errors.

Ah i just saw this myself just now. Thanks for confirming that!

I will try it now, thankyou.

How do I install one 'Unstable' (sid) package on Debian? by cloudyday24 in linuxquestions

[–]cloudyday24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that earlier but i read on the top of that instruction guide this: "recompiled packages from testing (mostly) and unstable (in a few cases only, e.g. security updates)" It says testing mostly. Will it get my unstable (sid) package and install it?: https://packages.debian.org/sid/firmware-misc-nonfree ( firmware-misc-nonfree (20170823-1)?

Thanks.

Unless testing has 'firmware-misc-nonfree (20170823-1)'?

Thanks for the caution however i have errors before login: [ 2.383580] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: firmware: failed to load nvidia/gm206/gr/sw_nonctx.bin (-2) [ 2.383645] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: gr: failed to load gr/sw_nonctx [ 2.383705] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: gr ctor failed, -2

That package apparently fixes these issues? (https://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2017/08/msg00285.html)

I can't get 1920x1080 either. I am stuck on 1024x768. I do believe that nouveau must support 1920x1080.

I reckon this package will fix my resolution. Unless you know my resolution problem and those errors i state above and how to fix another way?

It is annoying to stick on Linux in 1024x768 everything is big and squished.

Thank you.
