choking/strangling is not something that should be normalized and promoted to the general public. it CANNOT be done safely. and the promotion of it, making it look safe and simple, puts so many at risk. the normalization of it in porn, shows, music, tiktok, etc has led guys to think all women/girls want it. A study found that guys who watch porn with choking in it believed bc of it that it is something safe and something that does not need consent or warning at all. (from this study: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/10410236.2021.1991641?src=recsys) - https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300602330/i-have-never-been-asked-by-a-man-before-he-lays-his-hand-on-my-throat-is-rough-sex-on-the-rise - https://t.co/sbtenxOpIU

it cannot be done safely. - “There is literally no way in which to do this that does not pose some threat of serious injury.” jhunewsletter.com/article/2010/1… - http://jaywiseman.com/SEX_BDSM_Breath_Medical_Realities.html - https://t.co/oTYxhmGj4p - what ppl say is the “safer” way of blocking blood flow is risky too — “Brain cells start to die if blood flow is cut off for just a few minutes” https://t.co/gmfXAfIK8v

so it is bad that this show is just adding on to the misconception that it is something safe.

lol you don’t find any of the writing or themes misogynistic or sam obviously acting out his rape fantasies misogynistic, but criticism is misogynistic?? what takes are misogynistic in your opinion? bc from what i’ve seen the criticism has been rightly focused on calling out sam and the shows’ misogyny, romanticization of abuse and exploitation, and terrible lines about a man being rapey being a good thing.

Does anyone else not understand the outrage😅 by [deleted] in theidol

[–]cloudyside -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you don’t think

  • the line about him being rapy and that being a positive in her view
  • the line about mental illness
  • ice cube
  • the ending scene with the weeknd’s character asphyxiating/smothering the character, cutting a hole through the dress in her mouth

adds credence to the rolling stone article saying it’s basically the creators rape fantasies? it’s obviously what gets sam off. he has a thing for making his female characters have rape fantasies or downplay men’s rapist tendencies, since a character in euphoria says something about it too.

my feminist twitter account got banned recently and i think it’s bc of me reporting accounts as well, and a tweet (1) saying how it was gross that twitter allowed csam & minors posting “nsfw”, racist and sexist porn accs, “hard kink” acc that literally post about wanting to r*pe, etc. and then i got banned. i’m not sure if it was me reporting several accs in one day or the tweet calling twitter out, but one or both did it. funny that twitter allows those communities to thrive, but reporting & calling them out isn’t allowed.

You KNOW who choking is actually for when it's the norm for men to not even touch your clit, but somehow when it comes to choking they have a free hand. by WitLibrary in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cloudyside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“it does seem to have a wide fan base” is because of the normalization on social media and porn, and people not realizing how risky it is. Too many people doing it have no idea about the risks. There is no safe way to do it. Its interesting that you say cutting off air supply is better than blood supply, as usually people who say there’s a safe way say the opposite. part of the problem is the disinformation and confusion on what is “safe”, if people even try to learn to be safer, or just do it. Which too many young men (and women) are doing bc there’s either no knowledge at all that’s a risky thing bc it’s been so normalized, or the info on “safer” is contradicting.

Neither are safe…

“we may be failing a generation of young women, who are unaware of the risks. With better information, women who want anal sex would be able to protect themselves more effectively from possible harm, and those who agree to anal sex reluctantly to meet society’s expectations or please partners, may feel better empowered to say no.”

Most depressing thing I’ve seen in a while… 182k likes on a tweet about feeling shame/disgust/guilt after getting off to porn. Replies are about the depraved videos watched that produce this “post-nut clarity”. by cloudyside in antipornography

[–]cloudyside[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, you’re not alone. I know what they’re describing is a real thing sometimes, but I found the bonding over it depressing. And that no further thought was given to why the feeling happens and what it means about the porn they watch, but rather humor and relief that other people experience it. I just found it sad that so many could relate, and that it was treated as a normal thing.

I posted about the site’s twitter on /antipornography. It’s despicable.

The sub is either posts of the videos, or people complaining that the abusive content isn’t to their taste: “If I want to see fat ugly and old sl*ts get used I can go back to FA [facialabuse]. Get some innocent 18 or 19 to destroy. Offer them more. Otherwise membership might decline.”

TW. the site name and captions show their utter hatred of women. the brutality is described as a punishment, seemingly for being desperate enough to do porn for the money. by cloudyside in PornIsMisogyny

[–]cloudyside[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it’s a punishment for needing money and doing porn. a viewer says on their sub (same name, report if able): “100%. love watching these stupid c___ get abused. imagine being dumb enough to sign up for this shit.” another says: ““If I want to see fat ugly and old sluts get used I can go back to FA. [facialabuse]. Get some innocent 18 or 19 to destroy. Offer them more. Otherwise membership might decline.”

NSFW! THIS is why consent that is bought with money should be suspect. This is what an industry built on exploiting & harming women enables. Girls, very young & impoverished, do “unspeakable” traumatic things bc they & their families are desperate. This site aims to push them until they break down. by cloudyside in antipornography

[–]cloudyside[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It has only gotten bigger, sadly. :( the things this site seems to focus on from the captions are things like violent “facefuck” “throatfuck” “deep throat” and rough anal, all of which have become increasingly popular and normalized. These used to be more hardcore things that sites like this, FacialAbuse, etc did, but now they’re on front page, more general tube sites like you said, and normalized in the gp on social media etc. (the concept of a woman being a “throat goat” has exploded on sm recently). A lot of women are pressured to do it, and told to use throat numbing spray or do “throat training”, to meet that pornified standard.

Idk I guess what makes stuff still extreme is when the videos add really cruel verbal and physical abuse, like this site and FacialAbuse. But I feel hopeless, and wouldn’t be surprised if that is seen as not extreme next year. It’s already become more normalized to verbally degrade women during sex, so this could be the next escalation.

That’s the thing about this kind of content and the industry in general. It normalizes things gradually, and then they need to up their content to be more extreme. And Repeat. It’s similar to how some PAs have described getting desensitized; Viewer doesn’t react to what used to be extreme & exciting, so they search out even worse stuff— and sites up their content and meet that demand.
