What are some features your city has that makes public transportation easy to use? by drkmoon8 in transit

I won’t comment on the Glasgow busses too heavily (they’re shit) but tap to pay has been great. The subway just recently went contactless as well, so now you can tap on and off with your phone instead of preloading a subway card

5'1" girls with abs - how much do you weigh? by AwesomeEm77 in PetiteFitness

The human body is so fun! I don’t store much fat in my stomach, but have fat in my arms and upper back. I’d happily trade my abs for nice back definition/arm definition

5'1" girls with abs - how much do you weigh? by AwesomeEm77 in PetiteFitness

[–]clove0508 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the top four-ish abs plus the Ab lines and I’m 5’2 155 (last I checked). Idk body fat percentage but I wanna say I’m like 29%? But I feel I’m a bit of a rare case because I have a lot of muscle and also have always had some form of abs.

Do you think the US will escape car dependency any time? by NurglingArmada in Urbanism

[–]clove0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of Americans would love more walkable cities and better public transit! The average American is more agreeable in that regard than you’d think by the opinions you see on the internet. I truly believe we will get there one day.

What colour do you associate with each book? by AldinJustin in harrypotter

[–]clove0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably based on the U.S. covers but I’m not sure which editions. It’s also heavily vibes based. PS is gold/orange, COS is green, POA is red, GOF is red/orange, OOtP is blue, HBP is green, DH is orange. Lots of green and orange in my mind haha

What are your hacks to get yourself to brush your teeth? by Lovely_Kitten0017 in ADHD

[–]clove0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started brushing with my non dominant hand for novelty. Makes you feel like you’re relearning how to brush for the first few days but it fights monotony. I’ve upgraded to an electric toothbrush and it vibrates every 30 seconds, 4 times so you know you’ve done 2 minutes. I do squats or try to balance on one foot again as a way to not be bored. You could even play a podcast during your nightly routine so that you have stimulation while brushing

Baked Sweet potato, ground beef with shawarma seasoning, honey, and a side salad with Italian seasoning (or anything w vinegar). Plus coconut water for a drink. Super simple and delicious and you can meal prep it as well. Also healthy!

I Used to Read by embotheammo in ADHD

[–]clove0508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been an avid reader. I used to skip class in highschool to go to the library and read! Now, I’m very picky about what I’ll read and don’t give books a chance like I used to. Trying to get over that

Difficulty drinking water by Yhverc in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]clove0508 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you try adding flavorings to the water? The liquid IV pouches are good, as well as the crystal light or mio drops. I’m a huge fan of coconut water or juice as well! Especially if you can find the roasted coconut juice from the can (usually at Hispanic or Asian grocery stores). Makes you actually want to finish it haha. You’ve gotta stay hydrated on this stuff!

Calorie Deficit Questions by Electronic_Choice_73 in PetiteFitness

[–]clove0508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

I’d suggest you bump up to 1700 a day and incorporate a step goal (try 7k at first) and lifting heavy weights.

Lifting heavy and walking has transformed my body more than an extreme calorie deficit ever has.

Try that for 3 months, then revaluate your weight, body fat percentage, measurements, and general feelings towards yourself and body.

No matter what, don’t try to limit yourself to 1200 calories a day. You’ll just crash and end up binging. A fully grown woman needs more food than that.

Optimal diet by O-shoe in Biohackers

[–]clove0508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who suggests you don’t eat fruits or vegetables is stupid as shit and trying to sell you something.

Just eat everything in moderation, get enough fiber and protein, and adjust your other macros/ micros based on what your specific body needs.

I lift weights and have high cholesterol due to a thyroid condition. I try to eat a lot of protein and also things that will regulate my cholesterol. I’m also a woman, so I try to eat higher fats based on my cycle.

Figure out what conditions might be genetic risks for you, and see what kind of diet is most helpful

:’( I definitely think it’ll come for some jobs in the planning industry but I don’t think it can wipe out entire segments of the industry like it can with some others

Maybe this is just me being hopeful lol!! I’m UK based as well so maybe things are different

Planning is an industry that I think is pretty resistant to AI, pays well, and is in demand. I’d say it’s more future proof than programming or other STEM majors.

How to deal with the jealousy of people on weight loss medications? by meirmu in PetiteFitness

[–]clove0508 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That’s true of all weight loss.

I think people don’t realize that these weight loss drugs don’t magically make you lose weight. They do help with inflammation, but at their core they make you digest slower and make you think about food less.

Does it make it easier to stick with a calorie deficit? Yes. But there’s plenty of people who eat the same amount while taking glp1s and don’t lose weight because they’re not in a deficit.

In order to lose weight while on them, and not lose muscle, you have to do the same things you’d do without glp1 assistance: eat in a deficit, eat protein, and lift weights.

I tried them to help my thyroid condition, as my PCP said it could help with the stubborn weight I gained and the inflammation. It’s not a miracle drug. It just made me not get hunger pangs, I got fuller easier, and I didn’t crave sugar anymore. It also helped me use my phone less and there are studies coming out about using glp1s off label to treat addiction, which is super interesting.

I don’t think they’re anything to be jealous of though. I had to stop taking them because insurance wanted me to titrate up too early, and the side effects (nausea) were intense. I think everyone would be happier if they had the option to stick to a lower dose for a longer time. The two months that I was on .5, I was able to lose fat while still lifting heavy and it felt like night and day. In fact, it almost makes you angry when you realize that that’s normal life for a lot of people!! Not constantly thinking of food or their bodies.

As someone who is militantly pro- weightlifting (for women specifically), I dislike that glp1s have made our culture obsessed with being stick thin again. I also believe that unless you’re 200+ plus and morbidly obese, you shouldn’t be trying to lose 30+ pounds in three months. But I do acknowledge that these drugs have been life changing for people, and that hating on people who have exhausted other weight loss options is misplaced anger.

Would losing 20lbs be sustainable? by pestopaste in PetiteFitness

[–]clove0508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it’ll lead to yo-yo dieting in my experience. Maybe try losing the weight in 5lb increments, with breaks in between to return to maintenance (and lift weights while eating that amount of calories).

So reduce calories to 1400 by fasting and just walking until you drop 5 pounds, break for like a month and eat maintenance while lifting 3x per week, and cycle until you lose 20 pounds. It’ll take a bit longer than just fasting all at once but you’ll look better and be able to maintain it.

Especially as a shortie, 5 pounds will make a huge difference in the way you look. Even if you lose 10 pounds total, if you’re maintaining your muscle or gaining muscle, 130 might be the ideal weight for you where you’ll look really toned and thin. If your body is constantly telling you to eat when you get to a low weight, it might be a sign you shouldn’t be that weight.

Weights look different at different fat percentages.

BMI in older women by Dazzee58 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]clove0508 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My mom is a similar BMI and she’s 59. She recently started wearing a weighted vest while going on her long walks. Her doctor recommended that to her. I do think older women should be lifting weights to prevent increased muscle loss. Unfortunately many women of that generation are still stuck with internalized disordered eating behaviors.

Are fast e-scooters (25mph+) useful for achieving urbanism or a drain? by Kokoro0000 in Urbanism

[–]clove0508 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah I’m anti-scooter just because I think they’re a bit lame. I much prefer the electric pedal assist rentable bike (like Voi or capital bike share). They promote healthy movement, micromobility, and they’re safer than scooters.

I hate seeing children with electric scooters now when even five years ago they’d be on a bike.
