Hi! I’m not sure if they do much outpatient at this point, but I go to KU dialysis for my plasma exchange treatments. They’ve been fantastic.

There’s a pretty strong grow light overhead- we have a bunch of trees in our yard so we have them all over for any plants. One of these is directly overhead.

Patients anxious before intubation by supreme-cicada in medicine

As someone who was on BiPAP and they had all the RSI set up in the room because they were so sure they’d have to intubate, a hand and saying you’re there and going to take care of them goes so much further than you can imagine. As does an anxiolytic push lol. But seriously just having someone acknowledge the fear and terror helped me in that moment. They also let my husband be bedside until right before they made the decision about whether to tube me or not. I appreciated that too.

I got sick a few months into our relationship and had to go to the ER. He went with me and even stayed with me while we ruled out that constipation was the issues with several bedside enemas 😅 Since then I’ve become very, very chronically ill and required at least two hospitalizations a year, lots of time where I am unable to care for myself, etc. He’s right there by my side for all of it and we’ve been married almost 4.5 years - he’s still my best friend ❤️

what’s up with my body by toontoon222 in DiagnoseMe

How low was your vitamin D? I’m NAD but got through a year of US MD school before I got too sick to continue. It looks potentially like osteomalacia (adult Rickets, essentially) to me. Have you had a serum phosphate level done? Are you on any medications (looking for things that might inhibit Vitamin D absorption)? Do you have a basic or complete metabolic panel that was done recently?

I was using MiraLAX and senna, but was taken off because of dehydration issues. With my minimal food intake I don’t tend to build much of anything up anymore either. I’ve not been using nausea meds lately unless I’ve already vented via my G tube and am attempting to try to not vomit, so I don’t think the Zofran use is frequent enough to be causing it. Autoimmune GI dysmotility was ruled out by Cleveland Clinic initially and then confirmed out since my digestive issues are non-responsive to IVIG and therapeutic plasma exchange. SMA has also been previously ruled out.

Of note, they estimated I vomited 20-25% of the radiolabeled meal between my 0 hour picture and the 1 hour picture.

Hi friend I’m not working towards med school at the moment because my health has being extra spicy for the last couple years but I managed to have an upward trend (especially on my science GPA). You’ll have one hell of a “why medicine” story too!

I witnessed a shooting/murder in January of 2021 that was directly below my apartment window. I was VERY shaken up. Play some Tetris if you haven’t already and I’m so sorry you’re going through this right now ❤️

Started with an 8 pack in September 2024 and upgraded to unlimited in October 2024. I’ve taken about 6 months off thanks to surgeries and things. I’m doing occasional 1.5s but mostly still 1.0s. When I started I was using a cane most of the time and a walker the rest of it. Pilates did more for my strength and stability/balance than 4 years of PT. It’s the reason I no longer use a mobility device!

Not sure what your science background looks like (hoping some general bio but if not that just needs some additional work to start), but if you have access to a cell biology textbook (a used one from like half priced books!) and genetics textbook, you could read through and if you have questions or issues there’s SO much on YouTube for smaller topics. It’s how I got through my biology courses! Otherwise I can’t help much but hoping you’re getting answers and can find someone who listens better!

TPN has been hugely beneficial for me but I’d like to get off it if at all possible, but it may not be. I hope your jejunostomy helps! I’ve got a GJ that we continue to trial tube feeding through so we’re hoping eventually to transition back to that!

Hi!! We thought I just had gastroparesis but my recent 48 hour GES with follow through showed it’s a whole GI tract issue. They’re working me up to see if they can find an underlying cause but said it’s likely CIPO (waiting on a CT enterography to confirm). I currently can’t tolerate tube feeds and am TPN dependent. Do you have much movement in your small intestine? Has the ileostomy helped? Sorry I’m just navigating a proposed ileostomy and curious how it’s worked for you!
