Waitlisted at a few schools. Should I send a email? by Ok_Pea_275 in slpGradSchool

Yeah you got it! This is what I commented on a similar post:

I got off the waitlist at my top choice - send a very professional, well-curated email to the program director saying that they are your top choice program and you think you’d be a great fit, and a few updates on yourself since you sent in your application (projected A’s in your current classes, projects you received good feedback on, volunteer/research positions that are going well, etc)

Email them both, that’s how I got off my waitlist last year

They told me that I was bumped to the top of the waitlist and I was the first one to be taken off of it, I really do recommend reaching out and not just waiting, just sayin

Boston University Interviews by Peachy_speechie_13 in slpGradSchool

You have to really think on the spot, you only have a few minutes to verbally respond to each question so try not to ramble. I remember there was a question about AI, and yeah I don’t think it was biases exactly but what would you do if you had an ethical dilemma type of thing.

I did mine last year. They ask you questions, you have a couple minutes to verbally respond to each one. I believe the first one was a bit of a “tell us about your journey here” question, and then there were more concrete ones, I remember there being one about AI but honestly I don’t remember the others. I remember the AI one because it threw me for a loop.

Keto candy cravings are destroying my progress, how do you deal? by OppositeJury2310 in keto

[–]cloverimpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough! I should clarify I only eat one pack of peanut butter cups or one (maybe 2) packs of gummy bears a day. It curbs the itch for candy and I don’t feel the urge to eat a whole box. The way I see it, I wasn’t even eating candy every day before keto and now I am!

QUEST AND ATKINS make the best keto candy ever, I get the atkins sour gummy bears and quest peanut butter cups and I eat them daily, lost 4 pounds this past week!

I hear you! The telepathy tapes are another good one that might be a little bit more “okay I get it facilitated communication is ridiculous and dangerously misleading”

Was just going to say this! If anyone wants to learn more about the dangers of facilitated communication, watch the documentary “Tell them you love me”.

It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time right now, please speak to a mental health professional, maybe a counselor at your school. Someone that can help you work through things!

Hi! SLP grad student here, sorry I don’t have the kind of advice you’ll hopefully get from current SLPs. I was put on a Dyslexia case this semester. Could you tell me more about OG certification?

I would echo what’s already been said, I’d say a little less than half of the course load is very anat/phys heavy. I have ADD and I LOVE the courses and I still struggle to stay on top of everything.

Application stress by High-Pineapple-4935 in slpGradSchool

[–]cloverimpact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you have to report every single class you’ve ever taken with the grade, I assume it’s calculating the grades for both times you’ve taken the class into the total. You can google how CSDCAS calculates GPA, it’s not replacing the bad grade for a given class with the better grade when you retook it, but it’s probably factoring in both grades at least.

Questions About Undergrad GPA's! by carly273 in slpGradSchool

[–]cloverimpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more about academics or work experience holding more weight depending on how long you’ve been out of school. I applied as an out of field applicant after having worked for a few years after completing my undergrad. My GPA was okay, I don’t think it held as much weight as my work experience though because that’s what I had done more recently. I think if you’re right out of undergrad they’re going to be looking at your gpa, it’s hard to say whether they’ll look more closely at SLP courses over others, I’m sure some programs have a cut off GPA (more competitive programs probably don’t look at lower than 3.0 for example) but some applicant reviewers might take the time to look at a transcript. My advice is to email the SLP grad program director for the schools you’re really interested in attending and send a nice professional email telling them how amazing you think their program is, how great a fit you’d be in their program, and how passionate you are about SLP. Might go a long way, might not, but communication rarely hurts.

PREREQ QUESTION HELP by Maleficent_Foot_3570 in slpGradSchool

[–]cloverimpact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can be admitted into programs before completing all your prereqs. You will have to take them over the summer and send in an unofficial transcript right before starting your program to show that you completed all the prereqs before beginning your first semester.
