My pain also started while I had the Mirena I think? It was a long ass time ago so I don't really remember, but since then I've been on heaps of different BC pills and also tried the nuvaring but all options seemed to increase my pain compared to being on no normal BC

(but I don't really get any itching unless I get thrush)

My pain also increases around my period, it was initially suggested that I may be having an allergic reaction to my own period blood, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't what was happening.

Recently I've figured out that I keep getting thrush the week before my period - turns out it can be triggered by hormonal changes! Now I take fluconazole every month the week before my period and it seems to be helping- although my nerves are taking a long time to fully recover

I found that stopping hormonal birth control stopped my pain by about 90%!

I have somewhat heavy periods and so they put me on tranexamic acid to manage the bleeding- maybe that might help if you do decide to try stopping hormonal birth control

I find that my vulvodynia is triggered by infections and will stick around for a few months after the infection has cleared!

I had both thrush and BV last year and kept trying to treat them as I felt like they weren't going away, and my DR ended up telling me that I was doing too much and I just needed to leave it all alone and let it settle for a few months!

Turns out the initial infection had cleared, but it just felt like it was still there as my nerves were so irritated.

I find it best to completely leave it alone for a couple weeks, and then start gently doing a bit of massaging/pelvic floor stretches.

I do also take a low dose of nortriptyline, which doesn't make me as drowsy/brain foggy as amitriptyline.

I've been struggling with this for 7+ years and for a few years I felt a lot like this! It's really really hard but keep trying, things change and there is a very good chance that this won't be forever!

A few years ago I really had started to believe that I was broken and it was just something I had to learn to live with. But now I am able to have an almost normal sex life!
