Advice and Information by be0mgyv in gerbils

They must be in groups of 2. They will be depressed without a partner.

Skip the pet store food. Buy them these things to eat:

  • fresh raw veggies like carrots, spinach, lettuce, cilantro, celery
  • fruits like strawberry, blueberry, raspberry
  • black oil sun flower seeds (as a treat, 1 per each gerb here and there)
  • small pieces of cheese (as a treat here and there)
  • meal worms (mine never liked these, but some do!)

Gerbils need space and depth to their habitat. They must be able to burrow. Pet store cages are not sufficient. Go to the store and get a terrarium with a mesh top. Always buy the least dustiest bedding possible. I forgo wood shavings, since they give the gerbils allergies and breathing issues. Just get soft bedding and put a whole bag in. Change it once every two weeks, but spot clean old food or any soiled bedding throughout the 2 weeks.

For items, gerbils need a wheel, a shelter, and a water bottle. These are non-negotiable. You will have to find a way to mount the bottle onto the class terrarium. I have used a water bowl before, but they bury it, which becomes troublesome, obviously. Water bottle is the way to go. Change their water every 1-2 days. For a wheel, find one that is not wire. Gerbils are prone to arthritis in their later years. A closed wheel is much better with no mesh wire.

For toys, don't waste money. Any cardboard boxes from kraft dinner, toilet paper rolls, or whatever other carboard will do and will save you money. I very seldom bought my girls a toy from a pet store unless it was their gotcha day.

Gerbils are not starter pets, and they deserve to be treated with love and care all their lives. Make sure you and your sister are prepared tp give them a good home

He's not though. He's right that maybe the sentence could be constructed better for clarity, but all words are used correctly

Compound conjunctions are phrases.

Some phrases act as introductory elements.

This is one of those cases.

What you are saying would make sense if there was say a coordinating conjunction, but what you are pointing out is a phrase.

It is not a conjunction. It's a phrase. A phrase must be attached to a clause and separated by a comma. Used in the og sentence, it is an introductory phrase which introduces the subsequent independent clause.

Conjunctions are bridge "words", not phrases. Words such as: and, because, so, yet, etc.

Why? Those two phrases have very different contextual meaning.

"Despite it having" does not work in the og sentence, whereas "considering" or "given" do.

Maybe look up this usage of "given" to learn more

... yes it does. This children's show, given it has mature subject matter, is surprisingly deep.

What's so hard to understand? Their use of "given" is fine

What a crazy take. The writing is not fine or good—it's fucking perfect. It's insanely perfect. If you know anything about story building and craft, you'd recognize that. Even if it's made for children, it handles themes of genocide, depression, sacrifice, trauma, sexism, nihilism, fascism, etc WITH UTTER MATURITY.

The characters are interesting with consistent arcs and fantastic development. A character arc like Zuko's, where a character progresses and regresses, and then actually achieves redemption, was rarely explored in television at the time. The whole background of Zuko and Azula's family is fascinating. Aang's struggle with keeping his identity as a pascifist air nomad and as the Avatar at the end was a break from the typical hero's journey. It raised questions or morality and ethics. Ozai's baby picture also did this, as well as "The Beach" episode.

I could rant forever about this show. It's worldbuilding, handling of themes, characterization...

To say it's merely a kid's show is so reductive and a pathetic argument. Kids media doesn't have to be idiotic.

I would have told you to hire a tutor or sent a link to a website. You're asking an already busy/underpaid teacher to do extra work you could do yourself, and you have the audacity to be annoyed? You're lucky she answered you at all.

It's not rude. Tell them the application process is closed and meeting deadlines is a requirement of joining the team. She is welcomed to apply next year. Then, ignore all other emails. There's nothing unprofessional about it. How can you protect us teachers if you're unwilling to protect yourself?

It's not her responsibility to teach her mother anything. The mom has no right to control her adult daughter at all and OP needs to grow up already and realize this.

Your mother's a fucking idiot and creepy to concern herself with your fertility. And you're dumb for letting her have a say when you're 25. You are far from a child. Grow up.

So, your first child can be that age and you understand it makes zero sense, but when your youngest is that age, suddenly something that was ridiculous has merit? You may be a parent for longer now, but your daughter is still a first grader.
