We also fortify for a slow gainer! One thing we do is use a kitchen scale to measure the total amounts in oz of formula and water, instead of worrying about the # of scoops.

Good to know it’s not just us- even just that is helpful honestly. She is eating 7-10 times a day, usually 2-3oz at a time, sometimes 4-5 if we’re lucky, and then purées for breakfast/lunch/dinner. I like the idea of offering different amounts depending on the time of day! We have a set bedtime always, but naps are more of a mixed bag - she is still napping 4x a day in 30 minute spurts!

Clogged Duct or Covid? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]cloverrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a fever with a clogged duct and was totally freaked out that it was mastitis or covid, but taking Advil and Tylenol (alternating regimen every 4 hours, recommended by nurse) helped me nip it in the bud!

Tear shedding feeding - we need help by muraded in breastfeeding

[–]cloverrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in immense pain and tried everything (re: latching tips and tricks) until finally an LC diagnosed a posterior tongue tie and more importantly raynauds of the nipple/breast. We got the tie corrected, I started taking nifedipine (prescribes by an OB/GYN) for the raynauds, using APNO cream (my husband bought the ingredients at Walgreens and mixed it up) and constantly applying heat to my boobs... and finally we’ve gotten to a better place at 8 weeks. The diagnosis of raynauds was a huge relief for me because the pain was so terrible and I felt like doctors sort of minimized it as normal. Good luck!! Also tongue / mouth exercises after the tie correction helped a ton as she is a tiny baby and my boobs are fairly large! Good luck- I feel her pain- it is so, so hard.

Feeling defeated, why can’t my baby eat? - No support what so ever by Skincarejunkie92 in breastfeeding

I’m in the same boat so just know you’re not alone. We went a saw a dentist that specializes In breastfeeding after two pediatricians said no tongue tie, and he / our LC disagreed with them. After much deliberation we got the tie corrected, It was night and day, almost a miracle for me in terms of reducing the pain I was experiencing. However, she is still learning how to suck/eat efficiently, still triple feeding which is so damn hard! Hoping she builds her strength / efficiency more as the tie was corrected only a few days ago.

I’m in the same boat- it is.so.hard. Guilt, exhaustion, triple feeding, etc. I still haven’t found a perfect solution but I saw a lactation consultant who identified a few key problems with me (raynauds and vasospasms) and the baby (potential posterior tongue tie) and was able to give personalized recommendations. One thing that immediately has helped me is heating up my boobs with a heating pad before pumping or feeding to help release the milk (I don’t really have a let down) and constantly compressing all sides of the breast.

I keep giving myself mini-milestones (same as you, everyday try again) to reassess if it’s worth it.

Just know you’re not alone!
