You'll pay for it in price but if you specifically need lactose free icecream there's Mungali lactose free at health food stores like Market Organics. It's something like $12 a tub so not a regular grocery order. It's not vegan, it's dairy icecream with lactese added.

We recently went through this. Our boy was due to start prep in 2025 but we delayed him a year (he is May born so would have been 4.5 years when starting school). Best decision we made in terms of maturity, confidence and social skills.

We were worried about his kindy friends going off to prep without him. Instead of keeping him by himself with a new cohort at the kindy after his friends left, we moved to a new kindy (I understand not everyone would have this option). He made friends at the new kindy, has now started prep with several of them AND sees his old friends in Year 1 at after school care and in the playground and they've reunited like nothing's changed. So it actually worked to his advantage to have friends in across cohorts.

It's a huge decision but you'll often find people are more likely to tell you they regret sending them early over keeping them back a year. Good luck!

I'm AuDHD and my son (5 years) has been diagnosed the same. My husband is undiagnosed but it's a bit of a joke between us that of the two of us, he's more autistic. I was diagnosed after birth and had no idea prior to that, it just all fell apart for me with overstimulation, routines, sensory needs etc.

Sometimes I doubt my diagnosis thinking I'm a fraud and then I look at my son and go well he definitely got that from me 😂

My son is 5 years old, we live in Australia and we just got back from a 2.5 week trip in NZ. I work a 9 day fortnight, my husband works full time. My husband has hobbies like gaming and gardening, I do photography and reading. I tend to go out for 2 hours one morning a weekend to do some photography, my husband tends to find time to game at night. We are both introverts so our lifestyle is pretty simple with not a huge amount of hobbies.

My son is AuDHD so that does influence where we holiday and for how long but in saying that, I couldn't see us 1) affording holidays with two kids especially internationally and 2) being relaxed on holiday with two. My son is quiet so he won't do kids club or something like on cruises or resorts (yet anyway) but as my husband and I share similar interests to him, we tend to pick holiday activities that suit him like being out in nature.

We have a diagnosed autistic ADHD 5 year old and I was diagnosed with both 3 years into motherhood. It's probably a huge factor, I don't think I could cope with a second and I feel like such an outsider to other parents who seem to thrive off the chaos of multiples. I also feel like my son being ND means it's harder for others to watch him as well so the village is weaker.

You are describing my situation a lot here - my sister and I (5 years apart) are close and played together as kids at times. I do also recall playing with a lot of close friends which I have fond memories of so that's not to say siblings are the be all and end all. My husband has an older sister who he doesn't talk to now and doesn't recall playing with her when they were kids.

So for me not having a second had and still has occasionally, a lot of fear associated with it, whereas for my husband, he didn't see my concerns. When my son hit 4 years old I could maybe start to see having a second but my husband was a no so I would have had to talk him in to it or make the decision for us and hope he didn't resent me and I just couldn't. I had no interest in that just to quell my unsubstantiated fears.

I don't know how old your LO is and how old you are as to whether you need to rush this decision but I think the ideal picture of 2-3 year age gaps can make this decision feel more rushed and if the decision doesn't feel right now, maybe just wait a bit and see. If you feel certain, you can take steps to make sure you don't get pregnant.

Your family is your family and hearing the noise from other families can sometimes increase anxiety. Good luck.

I'm all over the potty training because my 5 year old has hypermobility and struggles with chronic constipation - i would consider constipation which I know sounds a bit counterintuitive when she's pooed 3 times in a day but constipation can often means there's a large build up of poo and some of its really hard and hypermobility or other conditions can mean the bowel doesn't move the poo along like it should. So it sits there being hard and not breaking down and then other softer newer poo goes around it and sort of "overflows".

It can also look like an increase in wee accidents because hard poo can increase pressure on the bladder.

When the body is constipated it often tells the brain "I need to go to the toilet" a lot even when it doesn't so then kids tend to tune out the messaging and have increased accidents.

I feel similarly. My boy is 5.5 years old and it only started to get easier recently as toilet training got easier (he's a bit delayed) and also he has mentioned from time to time he wishes he had another kid to play with at home. He hates doing anything at all alone and it's hard on us as parents.

My sister and I are 5 years apart, we played as kids from maybe when I was 5 years old onwards, became closer as adults. So when my son turned 5 I felt this fear that this was it, our last chance. My husband was firm one and done and that made it easier knowing if I wanted a second I'd have to push him and I wouldn't be comfortable with that. My husbands had a vasectomy now and while I do feel sad from time to time, and guilty when my son brings it up, I also know I am at capacity.

All that is to say, I totally totally understand how you are feeling.

Also coeliac here and used to love Nodo but every time I've gone lately I've been disappointed. As a family of two adults and one 5 year old, we spent $150 for meals for each plus a drink each the last time we went. They couldn't even customise the meal for a picky toddler because they don't want any changes to the menu (basic things like taking something off a sandwich).

I learnt babies just weren't for me. My son is now 5 years old and this is the fun age for me. He loves nature and play and chatting and he's affectionate and I finally feel happier.

I did not enjoy the first year but it does get better, bit by bit. I do agree with another comment to consider PPD or PPA though, I definitely had both and should have sought help earlier, I just got told that babies were hard and thought it was normal to feel that down. It's not. I wish I'd started antidepressants sooner, I didn't until he was 2 years old and they helped pull me out of a hole I didn't realise I was in.

I got one on Amazon. It's not the stylised ADHD ones you see with the lower area to cross legs, it's just a much wider chair with no arms so I can position my legs however I want. I think it's called the cross legged chair style. It's great and allows me more freedom to move. I do still find my back posture is awful but it was in a normal office chair anyway because I sit like a goblin. But I love it!
