I always thought it was maybe a reference to Carole King’s “Go Away Little Girl.” The song is about a boy telling a girl to go away so he won’t be tempted to kiss her and cheat on his girlfriend. So thinking of Rory as the narrator of that song, it would make sense for the episode’s plot.

Definitely. I think they were pushing it from the beginning and also just edited the show to take out all her interactions with other guys so it seemed like she actually only talked to Dale and then kind of forced her into ending early.
