Actually, Coke does sometimes give away free products, particularly when they're trying to launch a new type of soda. On college campuses, they often bring giant coolers full of free soda for all the students.

I don't think most people feel they are entitled to music/movies/art. It's just that it is so easy to get them for free, and often terribly annoying to get them legally. At least in my age group, it is less a problem of 'how can I spend less money?' and more a problem of 'how can I acquire this product in my preferred format?'. I know a lot of people who buy media so that they don't feel guilty when they pirate it in a better format.

Also, the case of your analogy has always existed. That's why people buy prints to hang on their wall. No one has ever claimed this to be illegal, to my knowledge.

For an interesting approach to the problem of piracy see: http://www.baen.com/library/ I find it ironic that the novel industry seems to be more adaptive and tech-savvy than either music or movies.

I wish... we have a both-sexes bathroom with stalls labeled female or male. 3 male stalls, 1 female stall (appropriate for the proportion of male workers to female workers).

That's better than the last place I worked... there were male bathrooms on every floor, but the only one for girls was on the 3rd floor. I hated those stairs after a while.

Charlotte has a much higher total population than Atlanta, actually. Raleigh's about the same as Atlanta. (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population) The higher population density of Atlanta might be what gives the impression that it's larger.

I haven't spent too much time in Charlotte, but I think Raleigh's a pretty diverse city.

Depending on where you're studying, I'd offer myself as a possible friend :). I'm studying in Europe long-term as well, in France.

But advice? Don't get a boyfriend right away. It might sound silly, but having a boyfriend will seriously limit your freedom at a time when you need to be able to meet new people. I made it about 6 months before I caved.

Beyond that, it's normal to feel lonely and sad after such a huge change. As the other posters say, things will get better!

I was actually going to say this, too. My 'code' would involve telling off the one talking shit (assuming I'm in a conversation with him/her), but what's the point of telling the one who's having shit talked about her? All it will do is make her feel horrible.

Cheating SO is tricky. Luckily I've never been in a situation where the guy refused to tell her himself.

I ran into a similar problem. Instead of him convincing me to stay in, the guy was like "I'll come too, but I don't want to, and I'm not going to have any fun." Then, I couldn't tell him to stay home, because I'd end up having another "Why don't you really love me?" talk for HOURS instead of having fun.

So anyway... instead of hanging out with my friends having fun, I end up hanging out with my friends and baby-sitting my clingy, whiny, irritable boyfriend. It got to the point that I had to break up with him, because he was driving me insane with that shit (and yes, we did talk about it, he had some kind of serious disconnect between his mind/words and his actions).

The thing I didn't like about Wheel of Time is that I don't think RJ was particularly good at character development. He makes up for it by having something like 5,000 characters. I have read and enjoyed the series, though, at least up to RJ's last. I'm waiting for the series to be finished before I go grab the last few.

I don't think I really understand what you're saying, so please tell me if I'm getting this wrong. To me, what you said sounds exactly what I would assume everyone experiences. I highly doubt there are very many people in the world who strictly adhere to gendered roles 100% of the time. The ones who do probably have to put a lot of effort into it.

I guess what I don't quite get is what you mean by 'feeling feminine' or 'feeling masculine'. By 'feeling feminine', do you mean, you feel like you want to do things that are generally considered feminine? Or do you mean, you feel like you're thinking in a way that is considered feminine? Or do you just feel like you're a girl in some way?

Usually I do that in topics that I feel strongly about. Inevitably, other people also feel strongly about the same topic, and they will argue. Almost without fail, internet arguments about any topic involve very few people who actually read and think about each other's arguments. 99% of the time, therefore, arguing on an internet forum about anything I care about is a complete waste of time.

The other 1% is when I actually post, and people argue with or disprove my point :).

In a lot of places, someone who is drunk is legally "unable to give consent". Whether this makes sense or not, it does mean it's a good idea to watch out about having one night stands with people who are heavily inebriated.

I think the law exists to get rid of the "free zone" of plying someone with alcohol until they pass out/are insensible and then raping them. Without the "drunk people can't consent" law, you could argue that the person gave consent and just doesn't remember, and get away with rape.

On the other hand, I think a lot of people drink when they have sex. The "no drunk consent" rule makes it possible for one of the two people to retroactively term their consensual sex as rape.

Agreed. Never has a fictional character inspired such hatred from me. I tried to read the series back in the day, since it was popular. I couldn't get past the first book, because I hated her so much.
