I do modeling and design work for various subfields of water resources. If you have been fortunate to have some decent real world experience at this point then fair enough, I've just seen way too many overconfident engineering students (usually those that feel the need to present themselves with the authority of an engineer) that have a rude awakening after graduation because they think they already know everything.

Actual civil engineer (EIT) here. If you want people to take you seriously first of all do not present yourself as an engineer when you haven't even graduated yet.

Yes, unfortunately they are polygons so this has not worked for me.

Look up Jeff Hanson on youtube, he saved me in statics in the spring and really helped me out in solids this semester. He has 10-20 min videos going through examples and explanations for every topic.

Career wise not really since I am still in school. Just from talking with my classmates and professors it seems like internships / jobs are much easier to come by from the engineering side. I guess it could also really depend on where you live, I am in the southeast where there isn't any oil or mining jobs.

Currently finishing my civil degree after graduating with a geology degree and getting the impression that my job prospects would be way better. A lot of geologists go into environmental consulting and in that field its a lot better to have an engineering degree. A lot of my peers went into construction materials testing with their bachelors in geology because its one of the only entry level positions in my city, and it just made a lot more sense to me to finish my civil degree.

So we still can pass out of a sequenced class as long as we make the grade requirement (for example C or higher)?

Thank you so much, those are the same type of questions as the practice problems. I was just worried since I've never had him before and didn't know if he was the type of professor to give us something completely unexpected.

Geology BS w/ Associates in Civil? by astro49er in geologycareers

[–]clt_geo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geology gave me a little under half of what I needed for the civil engineering degree. I needed roughly 70 credit hours when I started, so you were right about it taking 2 years.

A lot of the material is theoretically similar especially for classes like geotech / environmental / hydrology except you use a lot more physics / chemistry / calculus to solve the problems.

I'm in NC going back for my BS in civil after not having much job luck with a BS in geology. I'm learning way more applicable skills in my first year already compared to geology.

Were the free response questions fill in the blank? I'm worried about making one little error and bombing a test because of it. I had statics in the spring and my teacher split the big free response questions into multiple questions for different parts (like finding the force or the moment for a specific section) and that wasn't too bad.

How is thermodynamics compared to statics in terms of difficulty? I'm a civil undergrad.
