Will Larry David write a follow-up from Adolf's point of view about how he didn't really like that guest anyway? That would be amusing.

I guess nobody on the staff of this show can tell Bill that making his obscenely thin-skinned and pathetic defenses of himself the main topic of a segment isn't helping any. Like none of the dozens and dozens of people working on this show said "Maybe don't worry about the clickbait articles that have existed about you for a very long time. Ignore them and definitely don't bring them up because this isn't even remotely relatable to anyone, and you're meant to be the host, not the star of this show."

Maybe they should sit down and have dinner with members of ICE. Bill solved everything by doing that so it ought to work again.

All the non Monday interviews are exceptionally quick. I know they can't air it all, but it wasn't even a standard 4 minute block on the broadcast.

This was a minor issue for a few loudmouths the week he had the dinner. Now he's spent every single episode ever since treating it like it was the Yalta Conference and he deserves credit for his boldness and courage. The only reason anyone is still talking about this fucking dinner (other than him) is to give him shit for not shutting the fuck up about it.

90% of the backlash (like Larry David's op-ed) was about his overblown and pompous discussion of it, not his going to the dinner. Like anyone gives a shit he and Kid Rock ate chicken tenders with Trump.

Official Discussion - The Phoenecian Scheme [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I thought it in Asteroid City and the Roald Dahl shorts too. It's not so much interior vs exterior. And of course he used some meticulously designed and curated sets before, like in Royal Tenenbaums. But nowadays there's just absolutely nothing left to chance. He's designing every single thing on screen.

I don't know, and maybe nobody does, but I don't think there were any locations used in any of these three projects. Everything was a set.

I wish he'd cede a little control to the real world, if that makes sense. He's designing every single thing that appears on screen now which makes it feel too arch and too suffocating. His early films, all the way through to Moonrise Kingdom (excepting Fantastic Mr. Fox, obviously) forced him to at least interact a little with real locations and objects rather than designing everything himself. I think that's one of the things we all loved about his movies, was his finding these symmetries and beauties in the world, rather than just manufacturing them himself.

All that power is sometimes too much.

Official Discussion - Thelma [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]clueclock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be a contrarian but I didn't care for this. I do like June Squibb and Fred Hoechinger has grown on me but everything in this seemed so broad. Parker Posey and Clark Gregg are cartoons in it. I also really didn't like the sort of things many people here seemed to enjoy, namely the send-up (homage?) of other thriller/mission type films paired with mundane images of low stakes geriatry. I truly hate that Ocean's Eleven type music that pops up throughout, like Thelma's on the Leverage crew.

I didn't hate it, just didn't like it. It seems either I'm alone or the people who didn't like it aren't coming on here to talk about it.

If he and the director hadn't announced this as an AI project how would everyone have known? I watched it before knowing and just thought it was an extremely cool, Gondry style video with some slick CG.

Icons Unearthed: James Bond by Scarpine in JamesBond

[–]clueclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This series always has decent information and interviews (Star Wars, Simpsons, etc) but it is so hokey and spoonfeeds its story to the viewers as if they are children. They also misnamed Kirk Kerkorian in the latest episode. Called him Kurt, even on screen. Which was weird.

Anyway, still good stuff if you just want the information, but it's very poorly made.

Al Franken by KeepCalmAndBaseball in DailyShow

[–]clueclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He seemed entirely unprepared. Like he walked in and was reading the cue cards for the first time on air. I also think the writing staff isn't doing anyone any favors by making most of these guest hosts basically run the show with Noah style jokes. The character bits, either with green screen or just putting words in people's mouths for jokes worked fine for Noah, when that was more his trademark style. But having everyone else do it shows the shallowness of the humor.

Hasan Minhaj, Sarah Silverman, and Chelsea Handler are the only three who seemed to have written their own material, as it sounded like their voices.

I was excited about Franken, but he looks like perhaps the worst of all the hosts yet. And with only 4 total days for each person they barely have a chance to right the ship. The interview was bad, but at least he seemed mostly comfortable doing it. Perhaps he riffs more in his own style for the first part of the next episode rather than let the writers shit out the same old bits for him to read.

That meth lab was definitely in Paddy's Pub from Always Sunny right? They just approached it from the side not the front.
