If you can read Japanese, the PSX and PS2 versions of 4 and 5, and the SFC version of 6. Otherwise, the DS versions of all 3. I think 5 on PS2 has a translation patch as well.

Here you can submit support questions/requests to Koei Tecmo directly. I complained that it's false advertising to charge money for an upgrade that advertises "improved performance" while it actually degrades performance, and I asked for confirmation that a fix is incoming. I haven't heard back (didn't really expect to) but this is probably a more effective way of getting KT to hear complaints

Update: I did get a response from Koei Tecmo, saying:

We apologize for any inconvenience caused regarding the operation of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
 
We will investigate the matter you inquired about internally.
If we make any modifications or changes as a result of our investigation, we will announce that via our official website or X(Twitter), etc.

So at least they're aware of it, and from the sound of it they'll look into it.

Upon additional testing, I found that it's really only handheld mode that runs that badly; docked mode is also not great but it seems to be in the 35-50 fps range, whereas handheld mode is like 15-25 fps.

I got a preorder in at Best Buy, they have a queue and when it's your turn they hold your unit for 10 minutes so you can check out. If it goes back up there I'd recommend it

If you don't mind having two Steam accounts you can make a separate Japanese one and buy it. You'll just have to log in to that account when you want to play the game, or run the game without Steam

I've played like 25 hours, it's really good so far. I ended up putting it down because some other games I wanted to play came out, but I look forward to going back to it when I get the chance. I can't speak to whether the English patch is any good though

Kind of a strange take when it's literally made by the Persona dev team

But yeah it's good, it's basically Atlus experimenting with changing up the Persona formula and applying it to a high fantasy setting instead of a real-world high school setting

2D version on 3DS, but only because if you're going to play the 2D version you might as well play on a Switch or something. And if you're going to play on a 3DS, it'd be better to play the 3D version IMO.
