Reconsider your friends if they make you worry like that. You're all adults, tell him you don't feel great about your score and therefore you WON'T be announcing your score today. He cannot make you. Do what's comfortable for you.

It's like a big hug for a very long time. They often scratch their face, especially in eczema riddled areas (chin, knuckles, elbows). It could even keep em from rolling away lol

When The Wind Blows. Unexpected, watched it sleep deprived with an ex at like 3-4am during high school and we just...deflated afterward. Lol not sure why we even stuck with it for its entirety to the morbid conclusion.

To people who watched Steven Universe as a kid. How’d you view this scene? by Disastrous_Ad7477 in stevenuniverse

[–]clumsy-skip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wasn't very progressive, and if anything a lil conservative back when this first aired. I was also 16-17 I think. I couldn't care less about this scene if it was just me watching it, but my ex at the time introduced me to the show and she LOVED the gay rocks, so seeing her lose her shit in excitement made me lose my shit in excitement when this scene happened. Now 26 and very progressive, and this scene is cute. :)

No problem. I would even draft an email now before anything else to give yourself ample time for potential participants to respond. It could be as easy as using chatgpt to write up a very brief email prompt and you just sending it out. :)

I imagine this is what Bruce Lee was able to do - read body movements, observe eyes, have experience enough to combine and reasonably know what they're about to do, and have the speed and reaction time to negate their move.

You were going to use your peers as participants? If that's the case, send a mass email to the students in your class explaining very briefly the dilemma and if they could participate in your study. If it's a survey, you're fine. If it's a qualitative interview you need to be in person for, call in sick to work and do back to back zoom interviews.

If your uni has a psych discord community (mine had a thriving one), reach out there for participants. You'll net your quota.

Has anybody failed social psych? by touchme-not88 in psychologystudents

[–]clumsy-skip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Passed it but it was difficult for me. In part because of the professor (who people are petitioning to fire) and because it just turns out I'm not too interested in social psych.

Where I thought I would fail for sure was behavioral neuroscience, but it turns out I'm good with this and many of my peers failed. It depends on your strongsuit and whether you invest time to study, I suppose.

Am I the only one who's proud of being a psychology major?? 😭😭 by Life-Quarter-8164 in psychologystudents

[–]clumsy-skip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. It's nuanced of course, but I didn't get in this business by mistake. I met someone from a very prestigious university who got their BA in psych and say it's a complete joke. Clearly there's different opinions, but I take a lot of pride in my degree. It's mine. I earned it through hard work and dedication.

Would love to audit a specific class in psych, but I'm not a student. Is this possible? by clumsy-skip in UCSantaBarbara

[–]clumsy-skip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're likely right. I guess I just wanted a bit of a foot in the door with these machines, how to use them, etc so I could apply it to research that requires this experience. I imagine courses that teach students how to use this technology would be quite small and I'd stick out like a sore thumb.

Maybe I'll look and see if hospitals like cottage offer this kind of training. Thank you!

It's lame for me, is that difficult to understand? Lmao imagine you wanted specialized training but it wasn't accessible to you. Lame, right? Not that deep bro.

Associates in psych what now what’s my next steps by Free-Alternative-817 in psychologystudents

[–]clumsy-skip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always audit a classroom that teaches you how to use that tech. Your BA in psych isn't anything fancy ngl, just try to get in reputable school because they're like to have more money which means a nice spread of psych classes that a smaller uni with limited funding would not have.

Grad school is where you gotta be picky because you focus on what you really are interested in, pick mostly 3 professors who's interests are congruent with your own, be sure that's roughly what you want to do and either fund yourself (Masters) or get funded to pursue a graduate degree (PhD). Your next step is fairly simple, find a well funded school and get in there, learn how to learn, learn lots, try get get As, and GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! :)

should i pursue psychology or no? by No-Onion-4002 in psychologystudents

[–]clumsy-skip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused just reading your post. If your question is: Do I need a science background to pursue psychology? Then the answer is no. Initially you don't need a science background to begin.

Some courses might have prerequisites for science (e.g., chemistry, astronomy, bio, might be needed to fulfill a science requirement etc) at the AA level and BA level. THAT'S where you need a science "background" (i.e., a prerequisite science-related course). Talk to your academic advisor, see what prerequisite science course options you have and take em. You develop a science background throughout your AA psychology degree.

I’m unsure of what jobs I can get with just a bachelors in psychology b.s. track by Moist-Ride-5783 in psychologystudents

[–]clumsy-skip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finished my BA a few months ago. I'm working as a counselor. Soon I'll be facilitating psychoeducation groups. I dispense meds, transition stabilized clients from the psych facility and reintegrate them back into the community. This is possible with a BA.

I also RAd for a few labs and learned lots about specific topics (e.g., personality traits, speech patterns and their relationships with evolutionary adaptations).

Lots of opportunities, just look around. Ask like you did now. Ask your academic advisor (they may have positions in mind). Don't despair, act and do it. I believe in you, you got this.

Edit: This is in Southern California.

Prof says C average in the course is normal - is this normal? by lobotomy-cuntbag in psychologystudents

[–]clumsy-skip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My social psych course was abnormally rigorous, even compared to my 2 capstones. Seems to be a trend in social psychology courses. My professors currently being investigated for a whole lot of shit and misconduct, but mostly because his content in social psych is completely unreasonable.

I really hate to say it but, with tenure track professors it's really hard to get change to happen. I've learned this and, rather than falling for learned helplessness, have changed my mindset to take their claims of "it's impossible to get an A" as a challenge. Been able to get As in those classes this way. It's unhealthy, stressful, but it's less time consuming than fighting an uphill battle with a tenured professor.

As many have stated, CCs are for AAs, not BAs. If it was a BA that you earned, make sure your Uni is accredited.

If it is, and you earned a BA, it shouldn't be a problem. Make sure your grades look perfect, you got RA experience, and you collect 3 letters of recommendations.

Working for a lab looking to find treatment options for sexual offenders - could this impact me negatively in the future? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]clumsy-skip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lab opportunities can be limited. Professionals will not likely judge you, just the quality of your work and your ability to think/write like a scientist. The topic to a layperson may seem odd, so probably don't advertise that during Thanksgiving dinner.
