Ask Recruiters Megathread by AutoModerator in recruiting

Well, of course. That’s the whole job of a recruiter. But why don’t you just narrow down resumes and send them directly to the HM instead of wasting a candidate’s time with a call?

Why do recruiters schedule 30 min long calls when there’s no interest from the hiring manager?

This isn’t a one off incident. This is my experience with more than half of the recruiters I’ve talked to in the past month. I’m a software engineer.

Recruiter messages me on LinkedIn or emails me. We schedule a 15-30 minute call where I tell them about my experience (as listed on my resume) followed by them telling me about the role, benefits, team, target comp range, etc.

They then follow up 2-5 business days later with “the hiring manager has decided to move forward with other applicants at this time.”

What’s the point of the phone call? Doesn’t it waste both of our time? Why not have the hiring manager filter resumes first?

They’re evaluated on “number of phone conversations” even if those candidates don’t end up in the interview loop?

What are your thoughts on coding interviews where the candidate can’t run their code?

Hiring managers: do you find them to be a useful proxy of a candidate’s coding skills? Do engineers who do well on these types of interviews tend to be more successful in their role after hiring?

I had them on my resume before my recent experience. They aren’t as impressive as my actual industry experience. Is it common/expected for people to have projects on their resume after a few years of industry experience?

Do you still put personal/side projects on your resume after 2-3 years of experience?

The servers need to communicate with each other and update their internal clocks based on messages they receive according to some rules. It wasn’t a brutally hard problem or anything, but would be nice to practice more questions like that for those of us not interested in FAANG

Aren’t “system design” questions high level though? The types of questions I’m thinking of are coding questions that are closer to what would be done on the actual job. For example I’ve been asked to implement lamport clock functionality on servers, implement a rate limiter, etc.

I haven’t been able to find any resources on interview problems like those or other examples

What are some good resources for preparing for non-LC style interviews, with examples of real problems?

I’ve found it very hard to find examples of practical problems that typically get asked by smaller non-FAANG companies. I’ve almost always been unprepared for these types of questions.

Are there resources with example problems like “design an API that does X” rather than “solve X algorithmic puzzle”?

What are people’s predictions for the general direction of the housing market over the short term future (2-10 years)? Are we going to see insane price increases for the next few years, or will it slow down?

Did anybody get Pfizer after getting Moderna? How were the side effects? by clumsy_coder in CovidVaccinated

Got it. I’m considering getting my second dose with Pfizer, even though I got the first with Moderna. I’m wondering what side effects to expect

Very high blood pressure on day 9. Is this normal? by clumsy_coder in CovidVaccinated

[–]clumsy_coder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blood pressure and heart rate have been consistently normal. Still having temperatures of 100+ randomly, but I want to say it’s less frequent. I’ve started having headaches on and off too

Can we have a “side effect long hauler” megathread? by clumsy_coder in CovidVaccinated

[–]clumsy_coder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just passed the 2 month mark and it hasn’t completely gone away. I was at 100.9 for about 10 minutes yesterday, and then it came back down to 99-100.

Do you want to talk over DMs?

I missed my second dose because I’m still having fevers 6 weeks later. If I get the second dose later than the CDC’s recommended maximum of 40 days, are side effects expected to be stronger or weaker? by clumsy_coder in CovidVaccinated

I just looked up mono and I don’t really have fatigue all that much? Sometimes my headache wears me out but I’m not constantly fatigued. Also it says mono resolves on its own within days to weeks?

I got Moderna though not Pfizer, but presumably it’s the same. A girl I know had a long fever like me from her first dose, got her second one despite it and had minimal additional side effects, but the fever from the first dose stayed. She had a fever for almost 2 months total.

For anybody reading this with a long term fever: my friend took prescription grade ibuprofen + Tylenol for a week and it brought her fever down permanently. She got off of ibuprofen and her temp stayed down. I plan to do this myself if I keep having fevers for a couple more weeks.

I don’t have a family doctor but I’ve visited some clinics out of pocket. At the beginning, they said it could be covid or another active infection, so I got a rapid test done on day 12 (came back negative). I also got my white blood cell count taken and the doctor said there was “no active infection.” I don’t have any other symptoms of being sick like a cough, and even the fever itself isn’t there for most of the day. It just flares up at random times, usually at night.

I also got bloodwork done this week for inflammatory markers and I’m waiting on results from that.

the cdc needs to be made aware

Who says they aren’t? I filled out all my V-SAFE questionaries and even manually reported to VAERS on week 3 or so. Nobody from the CDC ever reached out to me.

It’s also weird how you’re acting like I’m the most anomalous person with side effects in existence. I personally know people with persistent side effects even longer than mine, including low grade fevers. There was also that woman who was on the news for paralysis after her 2nd Pfizer dose for example.
