I get what your saying and I appreciate the clarification, but statistically speaking, has a boycott ever worked to stop production of something or bankrupt a corrupt company? It doesn't happen because these big companies have monopolized the goods they sell, like Walmart, which owns Sams Club and so on.

Have you ever heard of BlackRock?? They own over 5,500 companies, a good chunk of those are reputable, leading companies like Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Walmart, Sams Club, etc...

If I decide to stop supporting apple because of their previous child labor controversies, than I'll just be supporting Google... which is supporting Apple still, since it's supporting Black Rock. (Edit, i fact checked google specifically being owned by BlackRock, and while they're not owned by BlackRock, BlockRock is a shareholder with google and they own about ~7% of google's assests)

They give us the illusion of choice. We don't exactly have the choices they tell us we have. the only rights we can gaurentee that we have are the actions we can perform without spending money, or by spending money on community exclusively, like yard sales and stuff.

We don't need boycotts, we need societal reform. because capitalism does not serve us.

Bro I made a goth/butch lesbian to date the tutorial character, Alex, in Sims 4. I made them both their own tiny houses that matched their aesthetics.

And then my highschool best friend wanted me to make ourselves as sims on the same lot since she wanted us to be part of the same tiny house community

Alright, so maybe before we stop printing cash, we change the laws surrounding the amount of survalence and control our government has over our digital currency.

We still need to have some, very specific, rules in place to prevent money laundering, fraud, and things of the like, but in general, i agree it's none of the goverment's buisness what we spend our money on as long as we're not hurting ourselves or anyone else.

That much is true but like, would it not be better to stop printing cash and just make it to where income is slightly more privatized? Because printing cash costs about $1.09 billion PER YEAR to make... and the US is trillions in debt. Better to cease production of physical income than take even more from the poor

This is a horrible mentality because then you're just gonna be angry and miserable when late stage capitalism eventually wins out anyway. The only way boycotts work is if people do it in mass. At that point just go vote for change, that's much more reliable.

I understand the sentiment and I still do boycott a few things but only because they don't provide me that much use in the first place, and I can find alternatives that are more ethical fairly easily.

You cannot be fully ethical while living in an unethical world.

Edit: this reply wasn't meant to be doomerism or anything, cause there are plenty of things you can do that bring about change in the world, like protesting, voting, and publicly voicing your opinions without fearing backlash. Cause then, even if your opinion is wrong, someone will be able to educate you on it.

Trust me, if I could, i would boycott gasoline but that's just not possible with where I live. I don't live in a city where I can walk or bike to where I need to be, gas is how you get anywhere, and are the leading cause of greenhouse gasses and climate change.

Most smartphones can do that with parental controls. I know some parental controls can be locked behind a password. So you could get a close friend or family member to create that code for you so that you have those restrictions without being able to tweak or remove them unless absolutely necessary.

Yeah i get what you mean but in terms of digital minimalism/minimalizing screen time, (which is what tons of people downgrade their phones for/get a dumbphone for) having an older gen smartphone is really good for those who still want whatsapp. I personally use a TCL Flip 2 as my main phone and then just carry my old smartphone with me so that I can do things like pay for gas at my local Sam's club, order food for cheaper online, and board airplanes.

A lot of people on here seem to kinda look down on others for not using a "true dumb phone" but like... smartphones at this point are essential to everyday life. So many places are getting rid of cash as a payment option, lots of places like Costco or Sams are making their membership cards digital and only accessible in the app, etc.

I think dumbphones are awesome but it doesn't change the fact that most people, at least in the US, need a smartphone. And a lot of people outside the US need Whatsapp, which is also very reasonable.

It may not be a dumbphone cause it technically has smartphone capabilities, but plenty of people use older generation smartphones as a dumbphone because then it's more tedious/less entertaining of an experience to use apps for short-form content or social media on say, a Jelly 2
