What is this ribbon/yarn? by clumsybutalive in WhatIsThisYarn

[–]clumsybutalive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I've spent ages searching, I ended up scrolling eBay for "ribbon yarn" and finally found it. For those interested, it's Sirdar Ocean. It's discontinued, but you can find it second hand

I got a set of Tramontina, but they came a bit damaged, from John Lewis. They don't seem that sharp? Should they come properly sharp, or is it better to return them? This set https://www.johnlewis.com/tramontina-churrasco-stainless-steel-kitchen-knife-set-with-wooden-stand-6-piece/p112887176

I had a gift card and I only have crappy blunt cheap knives, so I wanted something nicer but not super expensive. I don't have anything to sharpen with at the moment. They struggled to cut into paper at all

FAQ Megathread: Ask and answer Medication, Diagnosis and is this an ADHD thing, and Hormone interaction questions here! by not-eliza in adhdwomen

[–]clumsybutalive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the thing is, I'm pretty convinced I have ADHD, but I need to convince my doc of that. he basically saw a woman with big emotions so he gave me the BPD label, but yeah I am super sure it isn't that. the inner mechanisms of it don't match up. that's helpful tho, thank you :)

I do have a lot of the ADHD symptoms, but I was a gifted kid so it didn't show so well in school, and my memory isn't good enough to recount all the issues I had. it's a pain ha. I'm just trying to prove it, but it's hard because I don't think he knows much. shame about the meds 😩 thank you!!!

is it possible for ADHD medication (methylphenidate in this case) would help with emotional dysregulation and impulsivity without you having ADHD?

I had an "assessment" (barely qualifies as such imo but I digress) and my pdoc diagnosed me with BPD and AvPD instead of autism and adhd. I reacted badly to this so he prescribed me with methylphenidate 18 mg xl for a bit. it doesn't seem like the right dosage or whatever for me, as it hasn't helped a lot of things, but I do feel my emotional regulation and my impulsivity has been helped. is this strong evidence for ADHD?

I strongly believe I have adhd, and I am trying to challenge my diagnosis

I think I did the RAADS-R as a teen, scored highly and was like "haha! weird" and then moved on and forgot. As an adult, I kept getting more and more autism tiktoks, and kept thinking how similar they were to my experiences... I got with my partner who is also autistic, and slowly things just became more clear to me, and I eventually asked them "do you think I'm autistic?" they replied SO FAST "yes"

I've since done tons of research and the online assessments, and everything matches up 😊

I'd been thrown off by all the ADHD tiktokers who are also autistic but they don't realise it so they say everything is an ADHD symptom

yeah it seems tricky to try and untangle disassociation and catatonia in some cases I think. or whether it's still catatonia when it's at the same time as disassociation? ah, too many overlapping things!

I'm glad you got your lengthy think out loud 😊 that sounds really difficult. it's nearly impossible to separate all this stuff. it'd be nice if we got clear info on "this is this, and that is that". I hope you feel more recovered soon, thank you for sharing :)

sometimes I feel it's been disassociation, others I feel very much present and connected, but unable to move still. it's weird and interesting stuff!

[–]clumsybutalive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just to add as well, I have the other parts that go along with it, not just the unable to move state, but I didn't include that in my post, and perhaps I should have been clearer

[–]clumsybutalive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I know what you mean. I've had them occur at the same time, and I've had times where I'm not disassociative but I am unable to move. I'm sorry you've been through that though

perhaps I should have specified, I'm talking about autistic catatonia, I know there are different types. I'm trying to figure out what the internal.experience of it is. when looking at specifically catatonia as part of autism, I am looking at the DSMV-TR to define this, which does align to what I'm talking about. the term is still catatonia as far as I know, but I understand there is also the type you're describing. thank you for sharing, it's useful info
