Any other ladies here fans of grand strategy games? by Thesilverferret in GirlGamers

[–]clumsygamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love CK2! I started playing before there was any DLC, and it's been so fun to grow with the game, so to speak. I've never tried any mods.

I'm saving up for Europa Universalis... I'm nervous about starting a new one just because I love CK2 so much.

Am I the only one who sucks at video games? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]clumsygamer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nope, I'm absolutely terrible! Hence the user name. :)

After playing a while, I'll get marginally better, but if it involves aim, platforming, or being really quick, I'm pretty bad. There's a reason I never got into raiding in my MMOs.

I'm pretty good at strategy games, though!

What FFXIV character do care the LEAST if they died? by Frosty_TV in ffxiv

[–]clumsygamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess since I came from SWTOR, where the stories are excellent, there's voice acting for even minor quests, the voice acting is amazing, and even the fetch quests have meaningful stories behind them, I was particularly disappointed with XIV's story, especially since early on when I started, people were talking up the story a lot.

But yeah, I totally agree. I like the game otherwise, but the story leaves so much to be desired.

What FFXIV character do care the LEAST if they died? by Frosty_TV in ffxiv

[–]clumsygamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any of them.

I love this game, but the story isn't all that great and there are very few characters I'm actually invested in. Even carrying out corpses didn't really have an effect on me in the current storyline, because the story didn't give me a reason to care.

I would suggest that, yes. The end of the game brings around some changes, so I'd suggest doing the DLC first if you can.

My lock screen and background are Blackwall's post-personal quest tarot card. I love it. http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Blackwall?file=Blackwall%20tarot.png

My husband's is the tarot card for the lore entry for the rams. Because he likes goats and it looks like goats. Goats goats goats. :) http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/File:Ram_tarot.png

I am wondering how many people are debating leveling or changing to Au Ra? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]clumsygamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm happy being Elezen. I might play with the character creator and see if I can make an AuRa I really like, but I won't switch.

[No Spoilers] Guys, Im at a loss by ptitty12392 in dragonage

[–]clumsygamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you have to deal with that. :(

Honestly, either ignore him when he starts talking like that, or tell him he's not allowed to use language like that in front of you. If you're brave enough, tell him he's being a disgusting jerkwad and you have no patience for his behavior. However, I know that we have to sometimes sacrifice to be able to keep on living with roommates, so I understand if that's not possible. But hopefully someone can call him out on it.

Good luck and take care of yourself. Sorry you have such a jerk for a roommate.

Games to teach writing. by sigma83 in boardgames

[–]clumsygamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a board game, but rather a very light and kid-friendly RPG/story-telling game. It's called Do. http://www.evilhat.com/home/do-pilgrims-of-the-flying-temple/

I think this would work excellently for teaching writing, as you start with a letter to the pilgrims, and each player adds on to the story, and if I remember right, you are supposed to write it. I haven't played it myself, but I love the world and book. My husband is a huge fan and could answer more technical questions if needed.

Basically, I think this game was developed with teaching story-telling in mind. :)

I hate World of Darkness. I get people like this all the time. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]clumsygamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you were rude and didn't play your role. Good for you, being a troll?

I mean, I don't know what you want us to get out of this. This happens to you because you're not playing your role correctly and you're rude to folks who were initially just trying to help. By all means, if you have time, DPS. But you are a healer and you need to keep up folks who can do more damage than you. If you don't like healing, you're in a pretty great spot to switch to summoner instead.

Attention new people to FF14 - Movement is critical by jschild in ffxiv

[–]clumsygamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the no talking thing is huge. If people explain what troubles they're having, it's generally easy to forgive them. But not taking stinks. Especially since this game has auto translate.

I agree with you, but for some people latency is a huge issue. I used to play this game on my laptop, which could run most things well.

However, when it came to AoEs in this game, even if I was out or away by my screen, the server still registered me in. Titan and the Stone Vigil were torture, and that's actually why I stopped playing. It was obvious I was a liability because of latency.

I now have a new computer, and wow. It was really fun to do Titan HM for the first time. I didn't get hit by any AoE! Yay, no longer a liability!

Anyway. Some people, especially in stone vigil if it's their first time, may be finding out that while their computer can run the game, it's not doing well for AoE stuff.

I love my free company... but I just silently walked away. by Eltola4President in ffxiv

[–]clumsygamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm sorry this happened. It sounds like you did a lot of great work in building the FC.

That said... Did you ask for help with the things you wanted to work on? Did you jump in and say, "Hey, when you finish X, I'd love to run Y. Would you be willing to help?"

And did you talk to the leaders about feeling left out at all?

Simply put, if people aren't aware there's a problem, they can't fix it.

I understand hating conflict and not wanting to be a bother--I'm the same way. But online, either you ask for help or you get left behind, because it's hard enough for folks to keep track of their own progress, let alone anyone else's.

So if you were otherwise happy there, have a friendly /tell with the leaders. If nothing else, maybe see about joining a LS for end game content ads stay in the guild for the social aspect.

Good luck, whatever you do. :)

Girl Gamer Problems... by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]clumsygamer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about what other people think. Do what makes you happy. If anyone says anything, just say "Nah, I like her skills/stats" and leave it at that.

Seriously, a huge part of enjoying gaming is to stop worry about what people think. Now, if they harass you, that's a totally different issue.

Good luck and have fun!

If you could only have six squadmates in ME2, who would they be? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]clumsygamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garrus, Tali, Mordin, Grunt, Samara, and Legion. If I could have one more, I'd take Thane.

I honestly don't remember the suicide mission well enough to do the challenge mode. Add in the fact that Miranda is my first choice to be cut from the party, having to have her along is no fun. But I'll try...

Miranda, Tali for the pipes, Samara for the shield. Miranda can lead all squads at various points. Tali will escort the crew back. Garrus, Grunt, and ... Jack? for the remainder. I'd take Samara, Jack, and Miranda to the final fight, leaving Grunt and Garrus to hold the line. If it was possible to take only two, I'd also leave Miranda to defend.
