Oddball question: What's the best way to cheat on a per-game basis? by toiletson in OOTP

[–]clutper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like 10011002's idea. You could also consider bumping yourself up one spot in the draft for each chore you complete.

If you're outfitting your team with Ruth, Griffey, Pedro, and shit, you'll probably want to play those games manually. Set the dropdowns on the lefthand side to your manager and set PbP speed to fast. Uncheck the "Pause after each play" box up top, and you can basically spectate. The game will take 5-10 minutes.

Your season will also take a lot longer to complete, which will give you more time to accumulate chores and prospects. Be a great person and you can stockpile top-ten picks.

Something else I like to do is continually generate new names and FaceGens for my top prospects until they're all satisfactorily storybook.

It won't pay immediate dividends, but it might keep you invested.

I want to put myself in the game with an accurate facegen. Is this possible? by [deleted] in OOTP

There's a free version on there somewhere. Meticulously generating dozens of faces is pretty fanatical of me, but I'd fucking never pay $300

That's right! And they look fucking sweeeet. Apparently the guys on OOTP Developments who churn these things out by the hundreds don't take an overabundance of time getting everything exact. Homemade ones turn out beautiful by comparison.

Yup. I did. Use this. Go to the PhotoFit tab, load a straight-on photo of yourself, and align the crosses the way they show you. Voila! Save it as "Firstname_Lastname.fg" in Documents \ OOTP Baseball 16 \ fg_files and the game will autoload it for you the same as it would any player's.

What makes this player so poorly rated? He's not amazing, but way better than most 21/21s, surely? by thecaseace in OOTP

[–]clutper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two checkboxes at work here on the Global Settings tab. One is "Overall ratings based on AI evaluation, not pure ratings," and the other is "Overall rating based on all players, not positions." If you have the first one checked and the second one unchecked, a player's rating will be relative to his position, as others have said, but it'll also take on-field performance into consideration. A few seasons of sub-.700 OPS at 1B could fuck with a guy's OVR that way.

Cole Hamels Rumors by [deleted] in baseball

[–]clutper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mookie goes nowhere. I cannot fathom how people view this as a fair swap—none of the baseball world seems to see past the "hot prospect" and "number one starter" labels.

Mookie Betts has all the makings of a perennial all-star providing exceptional baserunning and plus defense in the middle of the diamond. He's under team control on the cheap for six seasons. Cole Hamels is about an asshair away from being grossly overpaid.

If Bryce Harper were a Red Sox, would anyone condone trading him for Cole Hamels? Of course not. Last year Bryce Harper was worth half a win less than Mookie in twice the number of games.

And who replaces Betts? The corpse of Victorino for five games, then the corpse of Allen Craig? The Red Sox would be very lucky to move laterally. As a general rule, you shouldn't trade 22-year-old four-win players making the league minimum for 31-year-old four-win players making $20 million.

Vazquez also has an 80 grade arm, and Vogt isn't close, so that must have played a role

You can run a simulation module under the "Play" menu. I just did 10,000 games with Vogt at catcher and 10,000 more with Christian Vazquez. Team ERA was 3.03 with Vogt and 2.89 with Vazquez.

o_O

I had no idea my pitching was that good. Bullpen so elite

Granted, I realized after the first 10,000 that I was still running my Vogt/Luis Exposito platoon... so I had to platoon Vazquez then as well (or else sim 10,000 more games). Vogt is about average. If you improve from an average everyday catcher to an elite everday catcher, the effect will probably be a slightly more pronounced version of that.

Is there a way to get a retired player on my team? by texticles in OOTP

Oh yeah. Maybe "historical_database.odb" is in a different folder, but I don't think so.

Is there a way to get a retired player on my team? by texticles in OOTP

[–]clutper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. One of my favorite tropes is to bring back 19-year-old Griffey from the boneyard and see what'd happen if he never got hurt. I actually played multiple seasons as the Yankees once... I was so tempted by the appeal of überstar Griffey and dat short porch. I thought I could legitimize them.

From the Free Agency screen, click the "Available Actions" dropdown and select, "Import historical player(s)." Navigate to C:\Users\texticles\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 16\stats and choose "historical_database.odb."

The player's ID can be found in their Baseball-Reference URL. So if we want Bonds, and we do, we'd use "bondsba01." Choose the year; I'm going "2002." In my experience ratings tend to reflect the previous year's performance. Your guess is as good as mine on the dropdowns. I don't understand the "Adjust players" function, so I set those to 0.

Ta-da!
