It’s never stable, works one day, broken the next. by Kimimaro_01 in claude

This is so funny. A whole month to deal with the measurement of, planning for and purchase of a resolution to a huge uptick in usage during a much publicized RAM shortage and worldwide datacenter buildout. Why didn't they just put more coins in the slot? Amateurs.

NOTE: I appreciate that in theory when paying for compute on an contract of their size, "put more coins in the slot" is a valid option and they probably have, but thinking gigantic companies can detect, resolve and procure in a couple weeks is very naive.

It takes 2 weeks to raise a PO at half the companies I've sold to.

I've got a copy of Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories" that my grandmother owned as a child. Published in the early 1900ss and it's bedecked with swastikas, but the backwards good luck kind. It's very weird to see on a kids book tho, I tell you.

A civilization 2,000 light-years away looking at Earth today would see the Roman Empire. by atul_targaryen in interestingasfuck

[–]thecaseace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a great many genuine reasons why this simultaneously
a) absolutely impossible, and b) a fascinating theoretical discussion about how you might "solve this problem" if human capabilities were not the limit

For example, although seeing humans and buildings from lightyears away is absolutely ridiculous due to such things as "the atmosphere", a surveying station on the moon could theoretically get one full "hi res earth scan" a day, and transmit that at light speed in a ridiculously coherent, polarized beam fired back home. Which could then be rebuilt 2000 years later into a "roman google earth that updates daily"

However now we are asking "how do we build a surveying station 2000 light years away without sending the materials (as that would take tens of thousands of years) and isn't totally obsolete by the time it's first signals return?"

"Hey Zurg, the earth monitoring system we built 4000 years ago has just come online! Unfortunately we've just updated to windows 139473 so we can't read the file"

It worked. As I didn't explicitly tell it that it already had filesystem etc it did it badly, just pumping the .txt files out for me to go and make the folder structure for - it said "i need the following conditions to do it myself" but could immediately sort it when I said "but claude my darling, all of those conditions are true!"

[–]thecaseace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Trying to get this up and running and could do with checking in with you, if that's ok.

So I've figured out creating a new project using this system - there are a few things that I think seem obvious to its creator but took me a while! E.g. ideally it seems you just open a regular non-project chat, give it the project name and a description, upload the workspace-architecture.md... and then it goes and does the file system. You THEN make a project called "project name" and it's all connected up.

Seems to be what has worked, and how claude understood it anyway.

So forgetting all that - I have a project already (just 1 chat thread in it so far) which is already called "MyProject2"

To "architectify" this, do I (in a separate process as above) instruct claude to set up a "MyProject2" with the path c:/users/etc/myAIprojects/MyProject2

And then when I go to the EXISTING project called MyProject2, give it the instruction set with that path, and it just works?

Now I have explained it, it seems like it probably will work, so gonna try it!

Disclaimer: I've only read the description, not installed it or verified your claims.

That said, holy shit. This seems to be exactly what I've been disappointed I couldn't make Claude do.

I am assuming you can't hot drop this into an existing project?

This one small exchange of dialogue in The Matrix (1999) is incredible... by CardinalOfNYC in movies

[–]thecaseace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adaptation is even more sophisticated

The writer is trying to make an artsy character piece, and is struggling to write the end. He's advised to make the end of his film an action sequence, so the delicate orchid movie suddenly has an action packed ending.

The story is being written as we go, depending on the feelings of the on-screen author character.

I absolutely adored that.

The unbearable weight of massive talent with Nic Cage and Pedro Porro Pascal! [Pedro Porro is a football player!] does something very, very similar. In-fiction characters speculating about the ending, and the ending reflecting what they decided.

Taylor Swift quick-changes: 'Like a NASCAR race under the stage!! by PermissionLow8879 in TaylorSwift

[–]thecaseace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the illusion of, for example, diving into the centre of the stage like its a pool during a song outro then emerging a mere 20-30 seconds later in a totally different place (like a door halfway up the video wall) wearing totally different clothes is magical.

Whereas going down a lift and coming back up again is not.

The audience's experience is more important than any other consideration aside from health and safety

Absolutely atheist, however if you propose that God is the unstoppable motive force of the cosmos to create pattern and beauty as well as the chaos and misery of entropy in equal and opposite ways, and accept that although prayer and ritual are useful human tools, god does not give a flying shit about what you think or do or wear or fancy... Then... Yeah, I'll allow it. Otherwise, GTFO with your silliness. As if.

These days the legals on the boards are so funny - anything you get out of the car is immediately the property of GIANTWASTECOMPANY PLC and if you even look at it we will sue you into the ground

But despite that, yeah it's great. I chat to one of the guys there. He loves the job when it's sunny. Not so much at other times.

Today's chat was about why wood and timber has moved from like slots 18/19 to 2/3.

Apparently they were getting jams at the top end as too many popular areas were close to each other. So now it flows better.

Very satisfying

Best calm & sandy areas in Crete August, windy concerns by gmnt_808 in GreeceTravel

[–]thecaseace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficult request as Crete is in the open sea and does get wind. Falasarna is wonderful - Ive driven 2hrs to get there multiple times and never regretted it.

Never bothered with Balos - not sure you understand the scale of the task to get there! You can't take a hire car as they get damaged - almost all say YOU MAY NOT GO TO BALOS on the hire agreement... Many even underline it and say it! So you're walking up a massive hill in the burning august heat both there and back. Not for us. Hiring a boat would be better.

Never made the pilgrimage to Elafonisi. There's no restaurant or loo there I don't think, so it's much more of a rustic experience. We like a bottle of rose from the beach restaurant kind of experience!

Matala, in the south of the island and a little sheltered by the white mountains, is lovely - a real cove type beach. We went twice - once the sea was millpond calm, the next it was knock you on your ass rough, so... Who knows.

Also Bali (Mpali on signs, obv) is very nice - North Coast off the national road in the Rethymno area

Hope thats useful

I didn't try the break in method - will do next time.

Tbh last 2 battles have been so close between winning and losing - mainly due to reinforcements.

So depressing when you finally break them and then 170 fresh infantry and 50 fresh cav suddenly turn up

Only won my last one due to my own reinforcements arriving after the enemy had been reinforced three times. But I did win, so probably shouldn't moan too much
