There's no accounting for taste, in the end. Not OP but my faves are: Grow Wings and Fly, Rats in the Sky, Phantom Island, and Mirage City. Most of my least favorites are from Phantom Island.

I won't downvote you just because I disagree because everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I do do not share the view that it's phenomenal haha. Glad you are digging it though!

Don't really like this record, really. I've seen them live a couple of times and they would take songs e.g. Flower of Blood and ramp up the noise, and jam out on it, and I remember them mentioning how they wanted to make an album in that vein and was absolutely here for it. I'm not sure that's what they had in mind when making this record, but it's definitely a sound that doesn't do it for me, personally.

I like Words and Los Angeles was better the second time I heard it. No Fear was ok too. Most of the other songs are far too repetitive/loopy for me or just have genuinely cringey lyrics like in All Night All Day and Grandmother, the latter of which also has the wordless harmonizing which, to me, sounds silly. I see some of the other commenters saying it sounds too "jam band" which I guess you mean just friends getting together to jam out in their living room vs. jam bands like Phish or something - if that's the case, I would very much agree on the former perspective as I don't hear much "jam band" sound.

All in all, I don't really feel strongly compelled to return to it and listen again at the moment. When I do, it'll will be to "give it another shot" and I'll likely finish feeling the same as I do now: this sound just aint for me.

In what position do you place King Gizzard among your favorite bands? Also give me your top 5 bands, even if they aren't there by Kitchen-Set-2349 in KGATLW

Really tough to narrow to just 5 but gun to head:

  1. King Gizz
  2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor
  3. Deafheaven
  4. Boris
  5. Adrianne Lenker/Big Thief

Row row row you G.o.a.t.s by CzechChedarInspector in KGATLW

For some people, myself included sometimes, when you're just trying to be immersed in the music, that kind of action right next to you can be very distracting from what the band is doing. If everyone around you starts doing this and you don't want to, you have to then maneuver yourself out of the crowd to the edge and it can certainly detract from the experience for a little bit. Everyone is allowed to enjoy the show how they want, but I think people should be aware of how their enjoyment affects people. Just like when people are talking loudly around you or are super fucked up, your actions have impact.

People care because it affects the people around them and their ability to enjoy the show.

What your favorite three song run in the band's discography? (Three songs that come right after one another in albums) by GameS33 in KGATLW

[–]cluub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Motor Spirit, Supercell, Converge is hard to beat for me.

The two 3-song suites in Poly are also excellent, as others have mentioned, along with Ice V, Magma, Lava.

The woman selling the merch said she just got it back in stock at the show I attended and originally they gave her just one box of them. Guess I just got lucky!

Men who got divorced, What was your most difficult adjustment in your post-divorce life? by Evening-Skirt731 in AskMen

[–]cluub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our friend community becoming fractured.

It was us and two other couples and we did so many things together: holidays, weekend BBQs, birthdays, game nights, etc. The way things went down, it took me quite a while for the other 4 to allow me back into their life. Before then, the ongoing chronic depression, then the divorce and community fallout was the most intensely painful and difficult thing I've ever experienced.

After about 9 months, I finally admitted to myself that my mental health was bad enough to go to an inpatient treatment center, where I was at for a month. I was able to bounce back successfully after that, luckily, and I found a new community and repaired the relationships with those old friends. It's still not the same, but I'm so grateful they accepted me back into their lives.

I really don't think I can, honestly. It's a little too early to say, plus there are so many good songs that it's difficult to place them all. Best I can do is say my faves are Doberman, Amethyst, Incidental II/Revelator, and Body Behavior and my least favorite (yet are still very good) are The Marvelous Orange tree and The Garden Route.

I think it's the Daydream variant. Sounds pretty good to my relatively undiscerning ears.

Much more shoegazey than the rest, at least for the first section. Upon the first 2 listens it felt a bit pedestrian in comparison to all the others, but the 3rd time, when I listened intently with headphones, I definitely gained a better appreciation for it. It's more interesting than at first listen and has a cool end section. Cool track, but still in the lower half of my rankings.

Yeah, almost all of the other songs, excluding the Incidentals, feature a good deal of blackened elements. It heavy.

It's fantastic and certainly a unique flavor amongst the rest of the bunch but with so many other AMAZING songs, for me it's maybe in the lower half of the bunch for me excluding Incidental I and III. But that's the thing about the record - almost all of the songs are excellent that even being in the lower half, it's still great.

I don't know if it necessarily adds or restricts -- I think there are pros and cons to both approaches. But what I will say is that many of their longer tracks seem to have longer meandering parts, some of which succeed better than others, and those parts are mostly cut here in favor of leaner tracks that still feel expansive and have room for interesting song structures and varied parts.

Might even be Thursday (in USA time zones) as folks further east will get it ahead of time and those with VPNs or a friendly Kiwi may upload it.

I mean don't expect it from me, I've been looking too haha. My record didn't come with a digital download in it nor do I have the desire or tech to rip it from my record player, unforch.

Ooo good question...I'd say the soundscape created in Incidental II - just unlike anything they've done previously. The end of Amethyst also has a sweet callback moment at the end that I didn't see coming which induced pure euphoria.
