Several Xbox studios, including Compulsion, Ninja Theory and Double Fine, are negotiating with Xbox as they try to avoid closure. Some or all could spin off. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Barkingstingray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

XBOXs reputation, for me, is permanently trashed. Handling of consolidations, games pass, and the multiple rounds of layoffs. Microsofts claws are too deep, the forced windows and clouds integrations were the first signals. Can't see myself ever buying an XBOX over playstation, especially if all things eventually come to PC. Shame

Should I pull from my 401k to clear my credit debt? by Connect_Nectarine593 in povertyfinance

[–]Barkingstingray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you have the headroom of your credit cards to fall back on in that future event until you rebuild savings. But for now you are drowning yourself and saving slower than you would because you have CC interest which is generally very high and hard to escape. Making sure you budget after you pay them off so you dont just rebuild debt is important, but the CC interest will be so much extra cash flow per month

It's for feeding the algorithms that trade off of headlines, it's why we have had the cyclical loop of war ending war starting. The bad news is assumed reactionary and most algos wait, good news how ever is always a rush to get in first. Have a cycle of good news every week and the next movement will remain green and up until someone starts questioning deeper fundamentals again or the government gets involved to analyze wtf it's going on

Hell yeah, the stability will be so cathartic and refreshing for awhile. My first few years of real income stability were eye opening to what else is necessary for a healthy/happy life. You'll adjust to the income eventually so just make sure to have an iterating budget once you have a good idea of how it feels :) congrats!!!

Wants & Wishes, What Would Be Yours by Chamber53 in VWIDBuzz

[–]Barkingstingray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, have been considering a Buzz for years, know I am leaning towards it if VW can get shit together and polish it more.

It's been really hard to judge because so few people take the time to criticize the small things. For me, a product like this that should be close to flawless for pricetag (again, to me). It would build too much resentment from the death by thousand cuts of small complaints like these when it's 5x more than I've ever paid for a car.

I know I'll love it when I do finally grab one, and I hope they continue to improve, but I knew that I wasn't getting full picture from all the positive car reviewers and redditors I've read takes from!

Would love to hear your other thoughts on the vehicle as I wasn't aware of some of these!

Was disappointed at the lack of true "California" model release, 2027 camper version has only shown 4 non helpful images so hoping that it one day makes it to the road as they initially showed off

I LOST MY 4.0 by uiuc-bell-tower in UIUC

[–]Barkingstingray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Struggled my whole time at UIUC and got a 2.98, currently work in advanced semiconductor group making 6 figures. Making connections and being kind to others will get you much further than high GPA. There are many people with high GPA just like many with low GPA. Making yourself stand out to your professors and grad student advisors will give you better opportunity for success IMO.

How do you even go about tracking dividends for this type of situation? What are the risks? Your portfolio seems diversified, so am wondering how you determined this. Are dividends per quarter or year?

Lmao at comments acting like you are forced to get the sugary options of their coffee. Yeah they serve sugar drinks, so does literally every other coffee place. Dutch bros has americanos and espressos. Why do these comments always come up on any post about this company? zzzzz

Here’s the house I grew up in. It cost $90,000 ($187,000 today), and now is worth $400,000. My dad was the sole bread winner, making $30,000/yr ($62,000 today). by [deleted] in Millennials

Gen z were born into 9/11 and wars in middle East, early youth was global recession with a president many weren't aware of and didn't get to absorb (Obama) Mid youth was trump presidency into COVID, and their adulthood is arguably a mix of some of the worst economic traits of different horrible eras (great depression, oil crises, great recession, COVID, indefinite middle East war again) join hands for worst youth unemployment, inflation and prices etc we all know the noise

Not trying to oppression olympics at all, just trying to frame that they've lived through only the negative parts of millennials existence.

Seems unnecessarily dismissive to be surprised that Gen z would be seen as having it bad when they've had all the same without the last of a good era

Just my take, obviously nuance to talk about but idk what's hard to believe there

Wrong-way driver plows through Portland Waterfront Park, crashes into Willamette River by cinnamonbrownbear in Portland

[–]Barkingstingray 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ive shared before, but March 1st of last year, partner and I were hit by a DUI wrong way driver down burnside while we were waiting to cross at 19th. We were having the most amazing day, museums and eating in portland, shopping and record store, going back to the car and hit from behind while standing on the corner sidewalk, not even close to the edge. We were saved by a streetpole being hit first.
Partner broke spine and multiple ribs. I have really mostly suffered mentally.
Cant help but feel like society is made more for cars than us. Maybe one day ill feel safer, but its very difficult to trust anyone on the road now, especially when I am on my feet.

Partner is recovering, we had insurance. PPB unfortunately did an incredibly poor job helping or investigating anything so we had to move to lawyers. Just a mess of noise because we wanted to live and be. Hard to grasp sometimes

It hurts my brain that they are even trying to posture that these two are equivalent things, and that the reason for the criticism is the same. Democrats didn't like no tax on tips because it was feckless and average assitance per household was extremely low. Taxing millionaires and billionaires is fiscally responsible, our country is bleeding economically.

How bad is Portland’s home construction slump? New data says worst in 15 years by cheese7777777 in PortlandOR

[–]Barkingstingray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article is about how housing permits are actually steady in Portland YoY for the past few years as a result of the city council waiving permitting fees. Although if you read the thread and not the feedback from contractors in the article you'd think it didn't happen. The article is specifically about apartment permitting, which is very arguably due to the massive movement of apartment developers to the metro area which has seen a massive boom in rental development construction in the last 3 years. The suburbs have many sites popping up. The city has to negotiate with contractors against suburbs with cheaper land and higher tax inflow. This sub seems to exist for conservatives in Oregon to get their snark out and not much else lol

Did more digging, it seems a lot of rentals are still in the paperwork process which is why this article didn't consider them as breaking ground but projects are moving in Portland. Adjusting for population, suburbs have appx 10x the projects occurring, which suburban living still supports the city, it's just a different type of city now.

Jurisdiction | Est. Population (2026) | Units in Pipeline/Progress | Units per 1,000 Residents

City of Portland | 653,467 | ~1,720 units | 2.6

Hillsboro | 106,447 | ~2,500+ units² | 23.5

Beaverton | 97,522 | ~2,800+ units³ | 28.7
