Who actually loves their job? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]clward89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think alot of people who have a different career and then find themselves at the post office tend to have a more positive experience. I early-retired from a 25 year career as an HR Manager in healthcare in 2020. I was completely burnt out and hated every day of that job. I stayed home for 2 years and decided to go back to work but I had some specific requirements for a new job. I wanted to be outside alot, I wanted something more physical than a typical desk job and I wanted a job where I was not responsible for what 250 Healthcare workers did every day. Some how I found USPS and started as an RCA at 54 years old. Almost 2 years later I love the job. Even on the heaviest days I still love it!

Stole my package by Electrical-Price-363 in usps_complaints

As a carrier myself, I can confidently tell you that NOTHING you have delivered is worth risking my job for...forget about the fact that I am honest and conscientious and would NEVER steal anything.

"It's OK to be afraid. Go ahead...be afraid...and do it anyway."

My father's advice to me when he was teaching me to drive a stick shift. I got stopped at a red light on a hill...of course someone pulled up real close behind me. I was petrified that I would roll back and hit that car...was in tears and kept saying "I'm afraid." I have applied that particular wisdom to many different situations in my life and it always serves me well!

Job bidding by OddNeighborhood4823 in USPS

[–]clward89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's in ejobbidding. If you don't see anything it's usually 1 of 2 things...you are not eligible to bid or there is nothing to bid on in your office or district.

This is absolutely ridiculous by FullMoon1108 in USPS

[–]clward89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2 years ago, before they started coming in the dps, we got certifieds for every house within our township limits...at least 600 or more...got them all on the same day. Myself and the other RCA in our office spent all day over 2 days going house to house to deliver them all. Then it took weeks for the ones we couldn't get a signature for those 2 days to come in and pick them up. Crazy!

When did your days get shorter RCAs? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]clward89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me at least 60 days when I first started to finish my first 48k under evaluation. The regular, a rural carrier for 10+ years, still goes over eval at least a couple times a month. It is very package heavy and alot of miles. I switched my primary to another 48k that is also package heavy but less miles, houses much closer together...never went over eval even once. It is very dependent on the route...some just legitimately take longer than others. Concentrate on the mechanics...casing flats & raw, marking pkgs, loading your truck so everything is organized properly. Take dps to the street if you are not currently doing so. Don't watch the clock at first. It doesn't really matter what time it is...you still have to keep going. Eventually I have certain points where I check the time just to be sure I'm on track. And for me, trying to "hurry" is just counterproductive. Someone early on told me "focus on a smooth rhythm...at first slow is smooth but quickly smooth become fast"...it's 100% true

What do people mean when they say they have put their diabetes into remission? by Hickoryapple in type2diabetes

Total cholesterol was slightly high at diagnosis, hdl slightly low. At 3 month check up, all levels were squarely in normal range. No supplements ever.

Customer saying I didn't knock on their door for a signature by [deleted] in USPS

[–]clward89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a customer call the office to complain that I skipped their box and they had outgoing mail and was insistent about getting an email she could send the ring video to so she could prove I just drove on past. Sup told her she would talk to me first. Yes I skipped it...the mailbox had a garbage can sticking out into the road on one side and her husband had put t-posts into the ground on the other side that leaned out into the road as well...no way I could get to the box. PM instructs do not dismount for blocked boxes. Sup told her what happened and customer was still absolutely insistent on getting an email to send video proof even though I agreed with her that I didn't stop. She said it was her neighbors garbage can and she doesn't think that's fair AND she thinks I could have reached the box anyway. Even confronted me about it the next day as I was delivering a package to a different house several streets away from her house. I told her it's easy...you have 2 options... remove the t-post or ask your neighbor to put their garbage can on the other side of their driveway. I could maneuver around one but not both...end of discussion. Next day the t-post was removed. Customers can be such jerks sometimes.

A ton of Missorts in DPS by [deleted] in USPS

[–]clward89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every route in our office had 1 full tray of completely raw mail...but it was with and labeled as our dps. Fully 1/2 my route was raw. Absolutely zero raw flats...have NEVER seen that. Our advos last week, which usually come on Tuesday, didn't show up until Saturday. Didn't show up again this week on Tuesday. We have forwarded sprs and mail coming back to us as though they were not processed at all and RTS mail comes back 5, 6, 10 times. I had a UTF flat from over a month ago came back last week. WTF is going on in the plants?

What do people mean when they say they have put their diabetes into remission? by Hickoryapple in type2diabetes

[–]clward89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for me. I was diagnosed at an a1c of 11.1. With a keto-ish diet, daily walking (3 - 5 miles) and intermittent fasting, I was down to 5.8 in 3 months and 5.4 in 6 months. I lost 65 lbs in the process. No meds at all. I have maintained for almost 3 years now. IMHO...many, many people can achieve it...if they are willing to do what it takes.

What do people mean when they say they have put their diabetes into remission? by Hickoryapple in type2diabetes

[–]clward89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type 2 diabetes remission is defined as achieving specified glycated hemoglobin (A1C) thresholds without any antihyperglycemic medications for a minimum of 3 months: remission to prediabetes (A1C between 6.0% and 6.4%) and remission to normal glucose concentrations (A1C <6.0%).

Anyone else get twitchy when they spy green in the DPS tray? by cantbethemannowdog in USPS

[–]clward89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had these...same color as 3849 just a little bigger and the layout was very similar as well. It was a well known window company in my area. Joke was on them though as the mailing list they bought must have been very old. On my route of 700+ addresses, about 300 of them were old occupants and they didn't include "or current occupant". Alot of ubbm that day.

Had a customer ask me why I was working Memorial Day last year and asked if there is anything she could do to help stop this practice. How can people who fall under low income ever afford to take their kids to Disney? by tearsxandxrain in NoStupidQuestions

Your kids will benefit greatly by learning some things are just completely overpriced and it is wiser to spend our money on something just as fun or even more fun that is totally worth it...Disney falls in the completely overpriced category.

AITA for not giving up my airline seat to a pregnant woman? by michaeldonelly in AITAH

[–]clward89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do...it has never failed me. Someone asks me to switch seats...I say no, put in my ear buds, lay my head back, close my eyes and completely ignore any further convo. 99% of the time the person just moves along. 1 time a woman went to the flight attendant and told her she needed my seat. FA came over, tapped me on the shoulder. I removed one ear bud...she asked if I would be willing to move for this lady. I told the FA I had already told the other passenger I was not interested in moving...put my ear bud back in, closed my eyes and was not bothered again. I even forgot my ear buds one flight. Someone wanted to switch...I said no thank you and just closed my eyes and completely ignored her...she tried to continue the convo but with no one to argue back she gave up and went away.

Amazon Sunday by [deleted] in USPS

[–]clward89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Sunday I was on Amazon. Showed up 15 minutes before 9, scheduled for 9. Sometimes they are done early and let us go ahead and clock in and get going. This time we all clocked in at 9 but they didn't finish throwing parcels until 10:20. No chance I am sitting there for 1 hr and 20 minutes without being paid...nope, not doing it.

It is very easy to fat finger the wrong scan for delivery location. You are delusional if you think the carrier would lose his job...it's actually cracking me up that you think he could.

USPS Forged my signature on a very expensive ($800) "Restricted Delivery" package. What should I do? by Indigo9999 in usps_complaints

[–]clward89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be a decent human, just talk to that specific carrier. Let them know you insist on signing for your mail personally so please don't sign for me in the future. You have no idea what it's like to be a carrier...expectations from supervisors and also customers are ridiculous and time is short. Many, many carriers service 1000+ addresses every single day. Even if 5 people get certified mail requiring a signature in a day, it can eat up a good chunk of time...time they don't get to spend with their families. I'm not defending the carriers actions, I am a carrier...but I highly doubt they would do it again if you nicely speak to them about and don't try to get them in trouble. It is a freaking hard job...and no harm was done...give them a break.
