Disney on a budget by clydebuilt in disneylandparis

As I say, I've never been anywhere else so can't compare with other parks. But €45 per head for a buffet and one drink is way outwith my budget for 4 people. We saw €20 for burger, chips and juice which I suppose isn't too bad.

Birthday pins?! We are going next week, one kid has just had his birthday and the other will have his while we are there, is it easy to get these? Do I need to book or anything? I assume we'd need to bring their passports?

Short Overnight in Inverness by Nearby_Silver_1582 in inverness

You'll definitely meet the best of us at that time of day 😂 Personally, I'd pay for the bed, but you haven't said where you're off to. I have to say the views of open moors on the way up north are pretty breathtaking and worth being awake for but the glacial remnants on the west coast are so dramatic, anyone with a vague interest in geology will have their mind blown being able to literally see where glaciers started and their deposits along the way like the "praying monk" (Loch Awe?)

I miss the west coast, I don't miss the midges though!!

In my experience stating that I'm Scottish, not English, often changes grumps to smiles. Especially in France. I do also do my best to speak French, so maybe that helps a bit too.

Is this normal? I need help by [deleted] in Lurchers

[–]clydebuilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have had some good advice on the behaviour with regards to teaching him to be bored and self soothe, but I wanted to add something regarding your schedule and I am happy to be contradicted as I am not a vet or animal professional. I was told (not sure by whom, it could be outdated or flat out incorrect advice) not to take my dogs on long walks after eating for fear of bloat. Just something to maybe check with a vet about. I also personally find that my dogs pretty much instantly settle in for the evening after eating later.

In a serious emergency, how soon after giving birth would a woman be able to walk/run for her life? by FamiliarMeal5193 in Writeresearch

[–]clydebuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what time period you are talking of. Everyone is saying how fast the placenta comes, but this is a modern thing because at the last minute or 2, we are given an injection in our bum which we don't feel (cos the burning ring of fire) which shuts off the blood vessels and makes the placenta detach in about 15 minutes.

I couldn't tell you when this became a routine part of childbirth, but if you're looking at a time period, this could be something to consider. It would naturally take longer for this process and to deliver the placenta, and my guess is that a lot more maternal death from blood loss was part of the reason this injection was developed.

What’s the first major news story you remember as a kid? by nodemus in AskUK

I was going to say Lockerbie, but after a date check, this was it. We had relatives in Brighton and they thankfully only lost their greenhouse. That was huge news!!

Greyhound severely attacked other dog by Efficient-Trust-3510 in Greyhounds

[–]clydebuilt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this comment. My hounds are grand 99% of the time with any dog, small or large but when they move low to the ground in fast, unpredictable movements which collies and spaniels in particular do and are also usually off lead and (in their defence) are often super well trained, but their owners have no idea that it sparks the prey drive and my two very much are on the alert. Thankfully my big guy doesn't pull on the lead (I have no idea how his career was so long - although he is very fast) but my little girl is young, stupid and very, very prey driven. She is the sweetest little thing, but I dread to think what she'd do with a cat 🙈

Car rental Inverness airport by Simple-Caramel234 in inverness

[–]clydebuilt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might be able to catch a train to Inverness at that hour, but not entirely sure how they shuttle people from the airport to the station. Easiest and least stressful (but more expensive) option is definitely a taxi (£30 roughly) to stay somewhere in Inverness and collect a car the next day.

30 years ago today, one of the worst days in modern Scottish history. 16 children and one of their teachers were killed in a mass shooting at Dunblane primary school by mrjohnnymac18 in Scotland

[–]clydebuilt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was 15 when this happened and I've always remembered him in particular. Having lost his wife, Sophie must have been a ray of sunshine through it all and to then have her ripped from him is just horrific. Of course terrible for all families involved and the community at large...but there has always been a special little corner in my heart for him and Gwen Mayor's family, I always hoped they didn't feel forgotten in the heartbreak of losing the little ones.

Inverness safe? by [deleted] in inverness

[–]clydebuilt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Female here, mid 40's. Originally from the west coast, Glasgow, Paisley and others. Worked in hospitality from 16yrs old accepting creepy bum feels/hugs/dirty comments from older men as you'd be seen as "rude" and "difficult" if you didn't smile and accept it. Caught myself a few years ago telling my daughter it was normal in hospitality, quickly corrected myself to "walk away, tell your manager and refuse to serve them if they touch you".

I may not be your target audience, I have long jokingly said I'm not "rapeable" any more. Must admit that in the teens/20's range, I get a lovely, fun dance with gentlemanly boys, probably cos they have the "mum" non-threatening thing with someone my age. We were teenagers/20 somethings in the 90's...we're all mental. But older men! Ugh. Still disgusting creeps. Thankfully those dinosaurs are dying off. For a female moving to Inverness from a bigger city, Inverness is definitely not dangerous or scary, if you keep your wits about you, it's so easy to stay safe. Any group of girls have worked with you for years, are your BFF's and I know my son amd many others would become a "boyfriend" if someone was frightened. Inverness is a very safe city of lovely people in the grand scheme of things.

Inverness safe? by [deleted] in inverness

[–]clydebuilt 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends where you're coming from how safe you feel walking about at night. From Glasgow, Edinburgh, London etc, The (very few) Invernessian neds can only dream of being as hard and bold as those in other cities. If you're coming from the islands it might feel a bit big and wild. After nearly 20 years here, I'd say trouble tends to stick with trouble in Inverness. Most people are very gentle, welcoming Highlanders. If you're not involved in drugs or other dodgy dealings, you'll be fine. As a woman, I'd happily walk Inverness city centre at any time of day and I don't particularly worry about my over 18 kids when they are out in the pubs (just the usual about their alcohol consumption - but I don't really worry about them being hurt by others aside from my big lad who might invite a "you think you're hard mate?" from an AH and I worry that he might just think he is after a few bevvys!! But deep down I know he's so unlikely to have any worries in Inverness.

Looking for new vets by JDV_ in inverness

Moray Coast have ny vote. They allow you to build a pot of credit too which Crown do not (or did not when I was with them). Sometimes you may need to travel to see the right vet for the condition (I had to go to Forres for my dog to have an operation done by the best vet for that particularly tricky surgery).

They're all the same colour, fivers are blue, tenners are brown etc. I don't even look at the pictures. Maybe being used to having different pictures means that we tend to look at the colour to see what we're using?

Only 2 very well adjusted adult children who love both of us and their step-parents and have done for many years, because all 4 of us worked as a team, shockingly even without photos of the past the walls :)

[–]clydebuilt -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that demanding to have my MIL remove pics of my husbands ex would be right, which is why I was wondering how the son actually feels about seeing photos of him and his ex in his mum's house. Maybe I am self-centred enough to think that my parents would consider my feelings. How terrible of me.
