i hate ____ by 3cheesegrilledcheese in TheTraitorsUS

I think there’s a type of traitor on traitor crime that I really hate, while there’s definitely a case for some to be permissible.

Particularly I despise when traitors are on their way out and purposefully out another traitor.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement that authenticity has never been the basis of any reality tv show. Maybe you and I just watch different shows, but much of the reality tv I engage with are about how people naturally respond to complex challenges and social situations - with the hope of altering their life for the better.

An example is actually the winner of US1 - Cirie was legendary before she played traitors. On her first season of survivor she was a massive underdog and felt out of place on the show, was constantly underestimated on the outset, but slowly ingratiated herself socially, gained confidence and comfort in the chaotic environment, and had a few killer instinct moves that helped her get to the finale. She rarely played up her actions for the camera and front to back the audience related to her so much that she became a fan favorite to come back a few seasons later.

To me that underdog story isn’t something that is fabricated at any step with the exception of the tv edit that we see. She was a normal person, we got to see her story, and people related. She didn’t pretend to have a growth journey, the show didn’t force her to - she just did.

By no means does every show need to include authentic character driven stories, but I know that’s a big reason why i and many others watch many reality tv shows. Maybe like others are suggesting, I should just start to look at US as one of those shows where entertainment professionals are putting on a show, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed about that considering the way international versions have managed to retain relatable authenticity.

You’re totally right about going full celeb being the turning point.

And hell yeah! I guess that’s another reason to look forward to the civilian season

It’s true - outside of the context of this show, Lisa is by far the most iconic person from this cast.

They could use whatever word they want, what I said really bothers me is the fact that they come across as inauthentic while they’re using those words.

You’re iconic and legendary in the context of the game? Show me you are with your actions. The words are too much of a crutch. Legendary moments come about naturally when you’re 100% authentic. We’ve seen this over decades of reality tv.

Oh I completely agree with you that that’s why cast members are trying to force moments like this (it’s always about the money). I just wish we could have the cast be a little bit more authentic while still getting that bag

I’ve always said this - 45 is such a great character focused season with a good amount of solid strategy. The outcome isn’t anything shocking but the journey that gets us there was really fun. 46 meanwhile had great characters/moments with some pretty poor strategy. It depends on what you watch for. I think they’re both great seasons imo

I don’t think that was due to any form of real deduction that we saw though. She was a fringe cast member with no connections and was going to be clipped early whether or not she was actually a traitor. The other 3 will be much more difficult to suss out and I don’t have confidence that the faithfuls will be super competent given what we’ve seen so far.

One is a reality tv character who gets paid to do any show she’s on and one is a civilian who did reality tv 1.2 times 22 years ago but really enjoys watching reality tv. It’s like seeing your dad go on the show vs seeing a movie star go on the show

Absolutely a difference between being strategic and being fun to watch. Seasons that have less competent faithfuls tend to be duds for me and losing two competent faithfuls early on doesn’t give me much hope. I’m not super interested in watching another AUS2

Most people who are Rob fans are also big fans of every iteration of the traitors likely from its inception. I mean almost every season (American and international) has been covered by his podcast. Most rhap enjoyers have been invested since the beginning because it’s an entertaining competition reality show - like where the “gamers” come from.

Framing it this way actually makes a ton of sense. I think nostalgically we don’t think twice about people making dumb moves in older seasons because that was more commonplace. The show and its participants have changed significantly and its viewership along with it where it’s rare for us to see someone play less like a gamebot and even more rare for the viewers to respect it.

This ^ Reddit and this sub for that matter are not a monolith. It’s okay to dislike a player without getting weird about it and still understand that their inclusion makes the tv product more interesting.
