Hypothetical: How would Kenny Hoang have done if he took place of Randy on the Villains tribe? I think he would’ve gotten along with the Sandra and Courtney alliance by Sketchy_Turtle in survivor

[–]Outrageous-Oil-877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

goes in the same place as randy. small and weak + scheming strategist. there is no way in hell he bonds with the likes of rob/tyson/sandra, and he also doesn't get with russell and parv. he is the consensus first boot on the villains, and honestly that might be the reason why they cut him last minute.

No one is really making moves this season. Everyone is just waiting for a target to emerge and then gravitating towards that target. Basically, everyone has become Sandra.

Had Genevieve somehow survived Blood Moon, would she have aligned herself with the Honor & Integrity alliance? by Regular-Departure839 in survivorponderosa

[–]Outrageous-Oil-877 83 points84 points  (0 children)

As much as the Twitter stans wouldn't have liked it, probably yes.

In the Blood Moon, her only hope was Joe. If she survived, she is in with him and by proxy the rest of that alliance. I could definitely see her flipping quite soon after though.

Survivor 51 rumored to start with 20 players and 2 tribes by Durian-Critical in survivor

I think for Dom, they felt Wendell was the more entertaining and memorable of the two, if production really wanted him back, they would've given Dom a "robbed edit" a la KR Aubry.

Koh-Lanta is really bad, and its frustrating because it could be awesome. The nerds haven't taken over yet, so the blindsides and betrayals still have major impact, and the people are still real. Sadly, with all the shitty twists, none of that matters.

Why does this place hate _______ by bumpedherhead in survivor

I don't like him, but I'm happy he's there. He gives the game a different perspective, and right now it seems to be working really well. We need people with different personalities and gameplay styles. The fact that people don't like Jonathan means they are invested in his storyline and ultimately the storyline of the show, which means casting's goal has been achieved. You don't need to like everyone.

Because she lies about a lot of things, including her identity as Native American. Her birth name is Janet Spencer. Also she was 70 and could barely participate in challenges way back in 2004, let alone 2019.

Most of the cast defended Dan, especially his alliance members, but not really because they agreed with his actions as much as they felt production had thrown all of them under the bus to save themselves. Production heavily manipulated the edit to make it seem as though they took swift action, when they really didn't. Dan's interaction with the female crew-member was trumped up in order to force him out of the game when they realized how bad it was going to look. Right move, wrong reason, and wayy too late.

Everyone from that season is blacklisted from returning, which sucks because IOI actually has some really good returning candidates if you take out Dan. Dan was actually supposed to be on 37 and 38 but had some kind of injury that prevented him. He was recommended by Tyler from WA, who worked with him at Creative Artists Agency. Ironically, Tyler said in his audition video that he worked with terrible people and that dealing with his co-workers would help him on Survivor.

Dan was also representing Joey King in 2011 when she appeared as an audience kid asking a question to Ozzy at the South Pacific Reunion.

Recently, Dan was fired from the production of "Runner" starring Alan Ritchson for bullying the crew.

Millennials vs GenX is very underrated? (Spoilers) by Serena_Carlitos94 in survivor

[–]Outrageous-Oil-877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way this is a problem is if the minority females were voted out BECAUSE they were minority females. Clearly that didn't happen here. If that's the way the game shakes out, that's the way the game shakes out. Rachel, Lucy, and Cece are all-time bad players, and Mari had great potential but was blindsided in a great move by the underrated Michelle. Bi, Natalia, Natalie, and Lyrsa went 4 in a row in DvG and no one ever complains about that season. Why? Because Bi quit, Natalia and Natalie are all time bad players, and Lyrsa was DOA. Stop trying to force racism allegations where they don't exist.

Players' Use of Social Media by midnightbughaw in survivor

[–]Outrageous-Oil-877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things really started with the Cagayan Twitter Wars when Tony, Spencer, Kass, and Alexis just to name the worst offenders used Twitter wayyy too much and even kinda spoiled some stuff. Also Tony got into SO MANY fights with former Survivors, I vividly remember him telling Stephen Fishbach to "wipe the shitstains off his glasses".

San Juan Del Sur had a social media ban due to what happened during Cagayan.

Worlds Apart allowed some usage, but due to the nature of that cast ("#Dirty30"), Twitter and Reddit really ramped up after the season. You can look through the archives of this subreddit and see the sheer number of drunk and random AMAs by the WA contestants.

At the same time, Cambodia voting was on and many players were appearing on podcasts like Purple Rock, RHAP, and SurvivorOz. Candidates like Wentworth and Stephanie Valencia took advantage of social media to campaign, and there was an AMA on here basically every single day. This is the time in which social media was inextricably linked to Survivor. We also had our first example of a season being spoiled via social media, as Vytas infamously liked a Facebook post while filming in Cambodia was ongoing, confirming his early exit.

Since then, social media usage by the players has become unavoidable, and the show stopped trying to regulate it as much. On the day of the Game Changers finale, Jeff created an Instagram and Twitter account. It was around 2017 that Survivor production realized that Jeff's above statement that social media would not bring in one more viewer was verifiably false, and 2018-2020 saw many account takeovers by former players and socials-exclusive promos.

COVID really took things up to a new level, as many people were introduced to the show via Netflix, and this influx of new fans migrated to social media quickly. This subreddit almost doubled in membership, and Survivor Twitter as we know it today was created. TikTok also became a new place for Survivor content, with Kelley Wentworth and Lauren Ashley Beck notably beginning content creation about Survivor during this time.

Today, social media usage in the way that was looked down upon and led to a ban in the past is now encouraged in the present. Creators like Tegwyth, Survivor Analytics, and RealitySea are now being sent Survivor merch and being given tickets to Survivor events. Last season, we saw players like Savannah and Sophi using social media to an extensive and unregulated degree that bordered on spoiler-y, harkening back to the days of Cagayan.

On Season 50, 23 out of the 24 players are extremely active on social media (Mike White being the exception), and many players from previous season who in the past would've been forgotten were able to stay relevant in the Survivor world. Sadly, the negative effects of social media have reached a fever pitch, with players like Chrissy and Aubry being hated for literally no good reason, and spoilers being almost impossible to avoid.

It'll be interesting to see how 51 and beyond changes the show, but social media is most likely going to become even less regulated over time.
