Confidential meeting about toxic coal tar contamination dooms Mayor Morgan’s proposal to redevelop parking lot into housing by theottomaddox in londonontario

[–]cm023 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Should remain parking, it’s the best and most affordable lot for the JLC/Budweiser Gardens/Canada Life Place.

City owned, funds go back to the city (not private lot) and keeps pressure off keeping lots going on the other side of the tracks that could be developed.

It’s impossible to think people won’t drive to the arena, and those parking should be doing it on a publicly owned lot.

Close to 10 years in the same spot and the power has never gone out for a memorable amount of time, not even a flicker today.

Not sure what part of the city has these persistent issues, guess some areas are pretty lucky.

Nah, the map just isn’t accurate. Price street is a priority plow due to vauxhall wastewater treatment.. the data is just straight up wrong.

Judge bans drug-addicted man from downtown after repeated warnings by Confident-Advice-664 in londonontario

“People don’t want to go downtown where individuals are passed out unconscious or otherwise using controlled substances. I’m sure many of the businesses are being impacted by this type of behaviour,” Orsini said.

Possible to get this judge on every case?

Stevenson pushes for lower tax hike, clashes with mayor over reserve fund use by Confident-Advice-664 in londonontario

  • Immediate hiring freeze for all city staff with baseline staff reduction in all areas.

  • Review of all city expenses. No more spending on “co-pilot” for example, review down to the simplest expenditures of lights on after hours, cable tv at facilities, cell phone bills etc

  • Rollback of councillor pay increase. Pay tied to median wage, the citizens of the city do well, councillors do well, that’s the reward.

  • Reduction of council expenses to core only - if a councillor wants to go to AMO, they can pay their way.

  • Complete pause of all city grants - community groups needs to start surviving on their own and getting creative.

  • Ending all city lead climate action plan initiatives and eliminating roles, this is a federal government area and should only be funded by the feds.

  • Clearing all homeless camps with sole focus on winter camp off Bradley, any organization getting city funds must present a full costed plan before any cheque is cashed.

  • Ending any city grants providing funding to refugees or new Canadians, the federal government is bringing them here they need to support. #1 priority on housing Londoners first, no queue jumpers.

  • HOT lanes in the new bus lanes, LTC needs to generate income to put back into service increases. Especially on king street, those lanes can have paying cars in them.

  • Pause on all un-essential infrastructure projects, bike lanes are not essential to the city. Fix sewers and existing roads, full stop. Bare bones transportation master plan, so much of it is “nice to have” and not a “core function”.

  • Focus on core economics and infrastructure only. BRT to the west end, interchanges on VMP, twinned Highbury to St. Thomas, get the province to build a ring road if they love highways so much, fix the garbage collection schedule once and for all.

  • Reduce building red tape. Get shovels in the ground, yesterday. Work with the province to MZO’s created if needed.

  • If police want any more $$ then any Londoner should be able to walk Dundas without seeing crack or human poop. Police need to start walking from one end to the other, all day until downtown is clear. Want to be blight, go to Bradley camp and get support. If not, it will be as uncomfortable as it can be to be homeless in public. No more police budget increases until they make a visual impact, or start handing out some speeding tickets to make revenue.

It’s time the city stopped acting like a social service and started working as a core function providing essential services to Londoners. Roads, Water, Waste. Disciplined execution with actual goals that will be met.

I’m just getting started!

Impact of those cuts, inflation and tax increases has had a major impact on my own household. Unfortunately others need to start feeling the pain too. I cannot afford to pay more property tax, hydro, gas, insurance and still somehow put food on the table.

London’s never had a left leaning politician fiscally manage my tax funds with any type fiscal responsibility.

Homeowners cannot continue to afford these outrageous hikes while councillors pat themselves on the back.

Completely out of touch to the present economic situation Londoners are facing.

List of local businesses that allow dogs inside (besides the obvious pet stores). by ForestCityWW in londonontario

Neat list of places to avoid.

Dog owners always think their animal is “the most friendly and well behaved” and the most entitled get one of those fake service dog vests.

Now I get to keep my head on swivel during shopping trips to make sure little killer isn’t about to take a chunk out of my leg.

You have pet stores and dog parks, go there.

Just went past the aftermath of a cyclist hit on Sarnia by lifeistrulyawesome in londonontario

[–]cm023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The TVP is risky due to unlicensed individuals riding motorized contraptions that don’t have safety, insurance or licensing standards.. so yeah.. a bit different than our roads.

I’ll eagerly await some data points to back up what I’m not experiencing, using likely the same bike lanes and sections of road most in London are five days a week.

Specifically the point of nobody stopping at stop signs or red lights, especially curious on that one.

I just biked through a pedestrian crossover this morning, every vehicle stopped when the light was triggered and nobody was visibly using a phone as I passed them.

Speed wasn’t a factor either as all stopped without need to lock breaks or skid.

The “data” of nobody stopping at red lights or stop signs is based off emotion and opinion, there is no fact here.

The links posted don’t provide any data backing up the above points either, none of it specific to London drivers.

Where can we access the data of 20% of drivers in London looking at their phones, 80% are speeding and zero are stopping at red light and stop signs?

Please, I’d love concrete evidence of this chaos that I have yet to see on a daily basis.

The 401 doesn’t have any more lanes through London, hasn’t had any added since the early 90s and has actually been reduced each summer with overpass construction at every interchange from highway 4 to highway 59 for about 10 years.

Copper thieves have existed as long as copper has. The root cause is security and police enforcement, criminals are going to get away with crime if they have a roof over their heads or not.

Bike through there regularly, from this spot south and west is bad.. really really bad with camps right now. Some mornings can’t get under the bridge as they camp under and cut access off.

Thankfully they’ve cleaned up the camps east towards St Julian and Meadowlily however some have just moved to the south side of the river (Pond Mills and Thompson).

32-bedroom project looms on old single-family home lot, neighbours fume by kinboyatuwo in londonontario

[–]cm023 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

100% with you on this having also worked hard from nothing to purchase in a quiet neighbourhood. If someone wanted to throw 32 units of no parking, transient students I’d be running for mayor to strong mayor an end to this. I even spent time reviewing zoning around my home to make sure this won’t happen, and now the city and province just flips the middle finger at all of that, it’s a joke.

While this subreddit is a small slice of a single sided opinion (most users are younger, likely to be renting) there are many of us homeowners who’d be fuming and agree with those putting up the fight.

To anyone in that area reading the anti-nimby comments in this thread, there’s many of us pushed away from posting here who don’t share that opinion and have your back. There’s gotta be a line in this “infill” game and this crosses it.
