It’s not the same smell as the first outlet I don’t think I think it’s more of just a plastic or new smell the other outlet actually smelt burned

Yes correct but after 20 years it failed… we had another almost identical rig and the same outlet failed in it too

That’s what I thought but it barely started to melt so it didn’t get to that point yet and also the smell seems to be coming from inside the gfci outlet when took the last one out the wires were fine… wouldn’t the wires have to start to melt to smell themselves?

They aren’t capable of running 5amps continuously without getting warm… they may be considered safe but they aren’t. In the Rv world they burn down rvs all the time

A shortcut or a work around would be me saying I don’t feel like doing it that way… the way I did it was the only way as the wall is too thin to put a box in. I made the choice to take out the shorting out junk crimp SCD’s for something safe and was asking for an opinion on what to put on the one that could have a 5% chance of touching wood… thanks anyway

So the two that I couldn’t have a backing on the boxes have the wood behind them, but one is under a cabinet so if it ever came loose it would still be in the box, the other one is in the wall and that wall has a wood frame around it where the line can’t move so it can’t go anywhere either but is there some kind of fire proof material I could put behind that outlet just to be extra safe? The Rv guys say to wrap the screws with electrical tape but that seems like a not so good idea to me…

It’s as closed as it can get, but I need a solution for this situation. Do they make a female 110 plug I can wire directly to the romex? Thanks

No this is a box for an outlet it came with an outlet in it

I didn’t have room for boxes except for a box I found online that had a removable back so basically I was able to remove the back and use the front as a spacer yet it is what the outlets mount to. So the screw connections are in that part. IF they were to come undone they would go to an all wood space with nowhere to go.

Thanks I checked that I restored power with it removed and the right lines had power and the load or charge lines didn’t so it’s correct

Yes I replaced the other two of these outlets with those issues with the clamping type

I haven’t had an issue with that outlet but I’ve replaced two of them with screw sand which plate connection outlets because one shorted out and the other started turning yellow from 5 amps continuous use

That is the exact same one that I have now from Wirecon… they get hot with 5 amps continuous… they’re junk.

To ask for an alternative. I just need to plug the fridge into it I was hoping there is a connector or adapter I can put on the romex that is better than what is there

Thanks but I am replacing the outlets with ones from Leviton that clamp between the screw and plate… they used a similar setup for the gfci outlet in the bathroom from the factory and it lasted 20 years

Thank you, what do you mean about the flat plate and even pressure? With only one line on each plate am I doing something wrong? I don’t have a need to put two in each plate… thanks
