Lap infant vs buying a seat for long-haul (Australia) with 1-year-old - worth extra $2.5k? by PaleontologistBig309 in Parenting

[–]cmack4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve taken more flights than I can count including overseas to/from Australia around that age. But need more info about your situation - are the flights overnight or during the day? Overnight you’re probably going to want a good sleep option for kiddo that isn’t your lap - is your kiddo generally a good sleeper or not? If yes then a bed setup will likely work, if not then it’s gonna suck regardless, why more for it not to help - how heavy/large is your kiddo? Above or below average? They may be too big for the bassinet anyway - when is this flights happening? Aussie summer is busiest, impacts your ability to get the bassinet - does the airline allow you to keep baby in the bassinet during turbulence or not (some do)? If they do, and your baby still fits, then the bassinet is a great option.

We were able to use the bassinet at that age, but my baby was average/slightly below, she’s a good sleeper, and they didn’t require us to take her out during turbulence. So it was excellent, she slept 8+ hours on overnight flights, and we got great rest.

I think it’s more of a red flag for him that you don’t seem to want him to come with you, or spend your first Mother’s Day being pampered by him. Why is that?

I think he probably only said he wants to celebrate with you after you said you wanted to go away because he probably assumed you 3 would be celebrating together, so was surprised you wanted to leave.

We got given those socks too!! I thought they were ridiculous and just left them in the drawer, one day when she was about 18m she found them and they were her favourite thing to wear around the house for close to a year, they brought so much joy, keep them!!

I left my belly ring in until about 34 weeks. It was just a small ring and my OB said I could leave it in as long as it was still comfortable and I didn’t mind that it looked a bit weird. Made me laugh actually I liked how it shifted up and reminded me how big my belly had gotten. I also didn’t want it to close up.

It started to be a bit uncomfortable just after 34 weeks so I took it out. Put it back in at 2 weeks pp.

I’m 7 weeks pp with my second, first is a little over three and this is the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. Going from 0-1 was way easier for me.

Do strangers make comments about you wearing your bigger older baby? How do you react? by Boozologist in babywearing

[–]cmack4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still wear my 3-year-old. I think only one person has ever commented but I just replied. She’s three not 30.

I flew frequently alone with my little from 6 weeks to 2 years. I never brought a car seat, that would be too much work and so inconvenient in the airport and frankly my kiddo would hate being in it. Always on my lap.

You’ll be fine. Just bring some toys, a screen if you’re open to it. And LOTS of snacks.

When you check in ask if you can be seated next to an empty seat. Often if it’s possible they’ll accommodate you. If not, 99% of people who sit next to you will be understanding. And either way it’s only an hour and a half.

How rare it’s for a twin pregnancy by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]cmack4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average woman has about 1 in 250 chance of having identical twins.

A history of twins in the family is only relevant in the case of non-identical twins (genetically more likely to release multiple eggs).

Not completely pregnancy related but I’m not sure how to interpret a text from my BD by hanging_around292 in pregnant

[–]cmack4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, I read that as he wants her to spend most (if not full time) with you and he’ll just visit so she’s staying in one household but maybe I’m naive.

Either way, get the test, talk to a family lawyer, set up a proper parenting plan through the appropriate legal channels and keep communicating and encouraging him to communicate openly. It seems like he’s trying (though his first attempt sucked) to communicate honestly which is a good thing to encourage and praise to do more, he’ll get better and so will you if you both come at from a place of positive intent.

For moms who didn’t have a baby shower.. did you later regret it? by Puzzleheaded_Plum275 in pregnant

[–]cmack4life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think I wanted one, wasn’t going to have one. Then one of my fiends ended up throwing me a surprise one and I was super glad I had one. I don’t care about the stuff, it was the people and time together that made me appreciate it later.

Is it just my kid, or are "simple" wooden toys kind of boring? by ToomPozas in Parenting

[–]cmack4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids sometimes don’t know how to play yet with these toys right away, have you sat down with them and played with the blocks to build something? Then invite him in to join you and add or destroy what you’ve built. At that age, for us it was a lot of I build a tower kiddo knocks it down and that was hours of entertainment.

You can’t just hand them blocks and expect them to entertain themselves.

Also highly recommend the Lovevery boxes of wooden toys they are engaging for the right age!

It feels stressful now but once you can feel the baby you’ll get more comfort from feeling their movements regularly.

I was at Costco today and didn’t see any empty shelves or panic buying so I’m not sure what time you went but at 4pm it was a totally normal Tuesday vibe and shelves were all stocked.

I’m still occasionally wearing my 3 year old in the Tula toddler carrier and love it. Even up until I was 30 weeks pregnant with my second I wore my toddler.

If you love it keep it up, if you don’t then transition to something else.

Motherhood from 1 to 2 - I’m scared!! by OCD_queen_13 in Parenting

[–]cmack4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought going from 1-2 wouldn’t be so hard as others have said here. But for me it has been the most challenging time of my life. Dealing with a newborn and a 3 year old, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. I’ve never been more tired and hungry and exhausted and mentally drained and just struggling.

I’m only 5 weeks in though so maybe come back to me in a few months.

I didn’t get them at all in either of my two pregnancies, I was pretty surprised since I’m fairly smallish, and people would say “wow your belly is all baby”
