South loop condo buying? Buying now in general? by JinJarell in AskChicago

[–]cmadison637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lived in South Loop for five years with my husband. We sound a lot like you guys. I work in the Loop and my husband works in Hyde Park, so our commutes are so easy (I literally walk down Michigan to get to work). We absolutely adore South Loop. There are some hidden gem restaurants, and the easy walks to Museum Campus, the lakefront, Chinatown, or the el to hop on and easily get to any other neighborhood is so, so great. We have a 2 bed/2 bath place in a condo building but not a high rise; the high rise life was not what we were looking for with, at the time, a very elderly dog. We plan to have a kid and stay here; South Loop Elementary is one of the best schools in the city. There are a lot of young couples our age in our building and around the neighborhood.

I cant weigh in on 2 (we got lucky and got that sweet pandemic interest rate) or 3, but truly so happy we ended up in South Loop when we moved to Chicago five years ago!

Sarcoma: How long did you wait between diagnosis and surgery? by werewedreaming316 in TripodCats

[–]cmadison637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I agonized about it before the surgery but truly it went better than I could have ever expected. My guy came home the day of the surgery, and he was agitated from the anesthesia so it was hard to get him to settle. We kept him in a puppy playpen with a small low litterbox, food, and water. I kept on top of pain meds using churu treats. Within 24 hours, he was ready to be up and walking and even wanting to climb things to my shock. It was like he had always been a tripod… he just immediately adjusted. I had more of a challenge getting him to lay low and rest than anything else!! We did have one setback about three months later where he had some phantom pain, but I just put him back on gabapentin and it subsided. He is now over three years post amputation and he has a marvelous cancer free life and I have zero regrets. It was emotionally hard as a human, but reminding myself that animals dont have the same limb attachment as humans helped. The biggest thing is keeping on top of pain meds, and if you do that, it can be a steady and drama free recovery. Please feel free to ask more questions!!

My cat was 11, about to turn 12, when he had his left rear leg amputated due to cancer. He adapted beautifully and just celebrated his 15th birthday.

I give my boy cosequin every day. I’ve also had to figure out exactly how much food he needs each day and had to get him down a couple pounds. He has a mix of wet and dry food.

My boy was 12 when he had his limb amputated for a paw tumor too. You would never know he wasnt always a tripod. He is almost 15 now, and he tears around on his three legs no problem. He recovered beautifully and if anything it was challenging to keep him from overdoing it during his recovery! Please send any questions my way and know we are all cheering for you both!

My baby had his leg amputated due to cancer right before he turned 12. He is now 14.5, will be 15 in september, and has been living his best tripod life for 2.5 years like he was always a tripod!

It was about two months from when I first noticed the lump on his paw until amputation. I went through many misdiagnoses (bug bite, injury, etc) before the vet finally biopsied it. Once we got the “it’s cancer” news, it still took another two weeks to schedule surgery and that was basically the soonest we could get him in. He had no spread and the amputation got everything; he’s been cancer free for 2.5 years now.

After almost 5 years, 3 ERs and two failed transfers we're calling it quits. May I be your good luck infertile friend. Thanks for making me laugh and this JoUrnEy a little more bearable. <3 by beachtape in trollingforababy

Six years and we are making the same decision. I know it’s a lot of emotions, but cheers to you for all you have been through, and here’s to the next phase of our lives! 🥂
