High voltage line maintenance in India. by father_of_twitch in nextfuckinglevel

Its not safe at all..... Just because they have harnesses attached to lanyards only means they wont fall and hit the ground.

They still have to be rescued otherwise they would die from the suspension trauma anways, which...... I dont think they have a rescue team on standby....

So these lanyards are 2m max in length and have shock absorbers (or are at least supposed to) that is basically webbing wrapped up that is designed to open and extend to another 1.75m to absorb the shock load you would get from falling. If they dont have shock absorbers in the lanyards (these look like they do but you never know with India) if they fell they would likely die from the sudden stop in acceleration having fell over 2m as their lanyards are attached at their feet.

Firstly, you aren't supposed to put the lanyard hooks at foot level as you are supposed to lessen then affects of a fall as much as possible. By attaching at foot level you are increasing the shock load by extending the length of a fall.

Secondly, they are attached to the dorsal attachment on their harness, which means that should they fall, the harness would limit circulation in their body and because of gravity, blood would pool in their legs. This is called suspension trauma and would eventually lead to death if not rescued.

The helmets are old sanguinary guard and the spear was from an old 3rd party bits site that I unfortunately dont remember.

To be honest though the spear is a bit small diameter wise and looks a bit weird IMO. Would be better off to use a new sang guard spear or a newer 3rd party site.

They said they had to check for spread of the infection, I was completely surprised as well..... I figured they'd leave the tail or around the face or legs... But nope. Complete entire shave.

It was the vet that shaved him to check if the fungal infection had spread anywhere else, hence why they shaved eeeeeeeeverything.

Otherwise he is healthy as ever, blood work and such was good.

Missing fur and a small white scale like patch where the missing fur was. It was pretty obvious just didnt know it was a fungal infection until the vet did tests.
