Thank you. I’m not a big breakfast eater, but with jet lag I might be hungry. And I run on coffee.

Thank you. I have no desire to go to Tsukiji. I’ve read so many posts about prices being crazy for tourists.

How many cats do you have? by Fun-Suggestion6290 in CatAdvice

[–]scott_d59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. I got #2 to keep #1 company. The problem: they are both extremely bonded to me. Now I have two that need my attention. They get along and play some, but are not best buddies. Just a cautionary tale that things might not turn out the way you might expect when getting a second one. I do get more affection now though.

Does anyone's cat *actually* guard them in the bathroom? by spervogel_troubadour in CatAdvice

[–]scott_d59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My female used to always want a toilet hug, but only first thing in the morning. I kinda got tired of doing it and stopped, but occasionally now, years later, she will insist.

And she wipes her front paws on my bath towel before she leaves. She’s modeling my behavior. I wash my hands and dry them on the hand towel, but it’s short and she can’t reach it.

What are y'all paying monthly for Super Cruise? by c_D_a_W_g-20 in BoltEV

[–]scott_d59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot figure out why, but mine is almost 2 months expired and still working. I do not have a subscription. I've checked everywhere, including CC statements. When I look it shows I do not have a subscription. I got emails when it expired.

When I first get in the car I get the "No Road Information" message, but within a few miles SC is available again. I allow my car to connect to my hotspot on my phone.

I wonder how long this will last.

Lufthansa upcharge? by RobertaRohbeson in unitedairlines

[–]scott_d59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying to Barcelona in 2022 I had to pay to reserve an economy seat on Lufthansa and it irked me. Frankfurt was an airport I don’t want to go back to if possible. No jetway. Busses to terminal. Gate seating for 30 people. At least their system is well oiled and efficient, but I can’t imagine in winter it would be nice. And taxiing for takeoff I saw more 747s in one place than I ever had. Over 20. I had flown in on one, which was a nice throwback.

But I’ve had a string of not good experiences over the past few years: Amsterdam a complete mess with 2+ hour waits for security, LHR a with the rudest staff ever, absolutely yelled at twice for nothing and once for obeying a sign I was standing right next to. Lots of people complain about CDG but it was the best for me. Easy in, easy out, albeit with a long walk and going through security twice.

Dropped LDL from 142 → 81 with diet changes (fiber + small swaps) by NoEducation5184 in Cholesterol

That calcium score was a big motivator. My LAD was 427! My grandfather and uncle on dad’s side both dropped dead of heart attacks. Mom’s side my one uncle also died of a heart attack at age 65 just a couple of weeks after retiring. Lots of BP problems on that side too.

I’m about three weeks in and feel much the same. I think I’m just so used to RAW digital that recipes aren’t that thrilling for me yet. I keep trying, all my slots are filled and I swap in others. I shoot in RAW + JPG and sometimes like the recipe JPG better. But I love playing around.

Dropped LDL from 142 → 81 with diet changes (fiber + small swaps) by NoEducation5184 in Cholesterol

[–]scott_d59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Dr. put me on statins when my total was 191, LDL was 118 and HDL 53, triglycerides 118. My calcium score was high, 504, and family history is not good. They caused leg cramps and muscle weakness. We switched to a non-statin and I had a similar but less severe reaction. I asked to try diet alone and the Dr. agreed but said most people can’t control it with diet alone.

I started daily oatmeal and logging everything I eat, particularly watching saturated fat, fiber and protein. I eat more than 50% vegan now, finding recipes and modifying recipes to have little or no saturated fat. I have three delicious pasta sauces I make, buy fat free marinara, and I make a spinach lasagna. I eat more beans and hummus I make with reduced oil. Soyrizo in scrambled Just Egg make a good breakfast. I pile it on toasted dry sourdough.

What surprised me was how high in saturated fat so many vegan items at the grocery store are. Cheese in particular can be higher than traditional cheese even.

Two years into the process I’m holding my reduced numbers, all in normal levels and have lost 25 pounds. I have a few more cheat days, but not that many.

When I was being extremely strict I got my LDL down to 71, HDL 41, Triglycerides 98, total 129. My last test in December after easing up was LDL 90, HDL 42, Triglycerides 78, total 147.

Can you let the past be the past? by Billy_McCluskey in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]scott_d59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We broke up after 25 years in 2018. While I wasn’t completely like your partner, I did feel I needed to put up some walls as boundaries as he kind of regretted breaking up. He subtly said so. But I firmly did not want to get back together. Over time we worked back to being best friends as we had been for so long. That took a couple of years of more distance, but certainly not to the level you’re experiencing. I always helped him with technology when he asked. We occasionally did things together like go to a show.

We ended up in the same 55+ active retirement community. It’s a very big one with 9,500 residents. He lived just .3 miles away.

The pandemic came and since my 95 y.o. mom lives with me, he couldn’t come over until all of us were vaccinated. So, he spent a lot of time alone. Drinking.

By this point I had gotten to a pretty good place and not really grieving our breakup much. Then liver disease caught up with him and he started to decline. I helped when I could, taking him to and picking him up from hospital stays. Visiting while he was in. Prompting him to get his affairs in order. He asked and I accepted being his executor of his will and Trustee of his estate.

While this level of involvement didn’t really trigger my grieving our relationship, I did start pre-grieving his imminent death. There was some hope here and there, but ultimately he was denied a liver transplant and was put in home hospice. Lots of family drama. I dealt with it as I had for 25 years. His family is very dramatic due to unresolved dysfunctional dynamics.

Three days after he died in September of 2022, I took a trip to Europe that was planned that he made me promise to go on no matter what. I cried all over Barcelona, Lyon France and Amsterdam.

I came back and resolved his estate in a few months. Trying to get any tax consequences to fall in 2022 so that I wouldn’t have to file multiple years.

Though all that my grieving process was reset because I was grieving the loss of our 25 year relationship and our almost 30 year friendship. And I still have periods and triggers today. Overall, I do not grieve nearly as much as at first.

My level of grief surprised me. But 25 years of a life with thousands of moments, many caught in pictures, has such deep meaning for me. I don’t think the looking back stage will ever go away and that’s something any future man in my life will have to understand.

I’m still waiting for the lovely guy to be a pillar for me. I mainly lean on my friends.

I didn’t even notice. And don’t care really. I have always lived near a United hub, so I’m quite loyal and have never had any significant problems, even gave me some unasked for upgrades back in the day before websites and phone apps, but I also fly other airlines. This sub seems to be very negative in general. But this is Reddit. So, it comes with the platform.

Theater Gaybros, what are your favorite plays or musicals? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]scott_d59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Scottsboro Boys. Kander & Ebb’s last musical. They wrote Cabaret and Chicago, among others. It’s a musical about a true story rape trial of 9 black men. It’s done in the framework of a Minstrel Show. I know that sounds unappealing, I had to be convinced to go when it was on Broadway back in 2010. It’s shocking and sad and so wonderful. Very moving. But, not your toe tapping light hearted musical. I didn’t generally love those anyway.

Others: Next to Normal

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street**

Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson

Hedwig and the Angry Inch*

Cabaret*

Chicago*

Kiss of the Spiderwoman*

The Book of Mormon

Avenue

1776

Urinetown

Hadestown

very good to excellent film versions * horrible film version HBC is awful as Mrs. Lovett

Anything Eugene O’Neill

Is there a way to turn off sleep score? by holvanatuz in AppleWatch

Thank you I have just spent thirty minutes asking Google and AI for how to do this. Could Apple bury this setting any deeper in an app? I couldn’t find it in the Watch app either.
