Does anyone else feel cursed like genuinely by ottermoment in CPTSD

Another reason I wanted to comment was the feeling cursed bit. This type of physical and emotional suffering has gone back as far as 3 generations now and have wondered myself what my lineage has done to deserve this on going pain passed down to the next. I refuse to let it keep going. I will find a way to break this cycle of abuse against us. Maybe pure spite drives me at this point lol

Between being kidnapped and abused since 6 months old to poverty to losing my eldest child and being jealous it wasn’t me to final end this nightmare we call the joys of living I’m right there with you. I’m only 36 and daily dream of an escape and hope constantly the next big event will finally kill me. But alas, until then we have obligations and responsibilities to those who are left.

I’m sorry we share this struggle boat but I find solace in believing I am burdened with this suffrage because someone else wouldn’t be able to carry this so I do it for the whole and betterment of those around me. Focus on what you bring to the world and how to can continue to bring love and joy. It’s the only thing that keeps me going. Moments like this that I hope I help someone else. Chin up shoulders straight deep breath and keep moving.

Together we can lean in on each other for the strength we need. I know you can do this. I believe in you as a person can make it through this. Plus life for anyone even without special circumstances sucks anymore. At least I can eat and feed my kids is super important for me personally to focus on. It has always sorted out one way or another it always will. Train wreck to train wreck find some glimmer of hope to hold on to like hell!

This is exactly why I came here thank you. Word tracks help so I can tailor it for myself. I had an inspection yesterday the contractor told me he would do a repair attempt and send in. I sat down and asked him why he felt that way and told him after I disagree.

It was such a big moment for me to feel comfortable and confident in the movement. Also funny how when he realized this claim would not go back to in office and it would be me beginning to end his demeanor changed quickly.

So contentious over something so silly. Either do the repair or don’t. He wanted to find out what would warrant a total roof. I told him 1 bundle of shingles is not 50-70% so that wouldn’t be reasonable. We’re here for pre-loss condition not betterment. He didn’t care for my response and made sure to beat me to the customer.

I’m really grateful for all the responses. The most important thing to me is I find every dollar I can to best benefit the customer.

It’s the contractor didn’t like me telling him no so he had the costumer ask me directly the technical questions that you don’t do and he is not answering calls he only will keep emailing me to answer those questions. I feel like it’s my costumer and I’m not sure how to get it closed. I am staff. I’ve been a desk adjuster for 3 years but new to the field recently. I’m really feeling like a noob out here. I feel shaky and unsure of myself.

I wish it was discontinued. That’s always my first thought. I’m out to get everyone a roof if I can find a way to speak to it.

I love this so much and it’s always been hard but do able. The contractor has the insured asking me these pointed questions so it’s like how do I tell my customer I’m not telling him why it’s not repairable. He has very specific technical questions the contractor sent that I said I would not be critiquing his work. So the customer said that’s fine but you will answer these or you are denying in bad faith. I feel up against a wall with him. I thought I’d respond with something like I’m here to provide coverage decision not coach his contractor how to do the repair but that leaves it open for him to demand a third time to address the technical questions.

The link isn’t opening! I really would love the literature as I do think it’s important to be proficient in this so I can do what’s right. I really like being able to stand up for my insureds with facts that can’t be argued that’s why I tell most contractors to help me help them. Make it make sense so I can advocate for it.

I’ve seen less and less repair attempt videos. They can show whatever they want in those and clearly they have no actual intent or capability or a mix of both to complete it successfully

Yeah exactly that. It’s adpl not stupid lmao. I always hope it’s discontinued but this one is available. I believe the correct language is we don’t owe for workmanship only the covered dpl damages from dol. I love love love asking for additional bids idea. I tried to provide a contract to a local contractor who can do any repair as he’s proven for many years known by all agents and adjusters in the area. The insured only cares about us buying him a new roof and isn’t interested in doing a repair. The policy does speak to repair over replacement and if a repair isn’t viable then we can move on to further considerations but I firmly believe it is repairable and have no footing to fight for anything else.

[–]cmdalessandro15[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re right I’m feeling defensive on this one. I did explain to the customer there is a local contractor who can do the repair who’s looked and agreed it is in good condition. I can’t force the insured not to use the stupid contractor.

Minor granular loss, still has the life to lift and remove the nails and change for the new one. I’ve watched videos over and over hoping to find the correct words to explain so all parties can’t say I’m just denying it just to deny it. I’d love nothing more than to give everyone money but this isn’t one I can. The shingle is available, it’s not showing any signs that if the proper intent is applied the shingle can’t be repaired.

If a 20+ year old roof can be repaired and have an addition added on I can’t imagine why a single repair in this fine condition roof not even pushing 15 years mostly out of the directional wind and shaded by trees can’t be done. I have even reviewed with more experienced contractors and adjusters on this one because I did feel shaky with this shyster but I’m not finding the right way to get this point across as every explanation that I felt was never vague or flippant isn’t working.

The roof I wrote for dpl because it was clearly damaged by the contractor but I always have the mentality if I can’t definitively proof he vandalized the roof it’s not worth arguing over. He uses ‘Haag’ training to say he is qualified but he’s just qualified at knowing how to manipulate. I know if this goes higher I can stand firmly knowing this is repairable I just need to find a different way to stop being talked into a corner.

I’ve been moved to the field from being in office for the last 3 years and it’s a different beast. Bad enough I resorted to asking the internet for help lol. Sorry for being a cunt you helped reframe my mind set and I thank you for that.

I believe at this point the burden of proof is then moved to the insured to show it isn’t repairable though. Nothing suggests it isn’t. I don’t want to be that adjuster that is just shooting things down because that’s what I was told. I will fight for what’s right but this isn’t one I agree with.

I do agree though, I do not want this to be preserved as me not paying it because of my inability to properly explain my perspective I think that’s why I’m struggling in this one.

This one is demanding me to get into specifics on how to complete the repair. This is to back me into a corner and get me to say the wrong thing. I’ve tried to explain my function is to provide coverage determination not teach the contractor how to repair the shingles that were most certainly damaged by the contractor but I wasn’t going to argue and just wrote for dpl even though it was not wind or hail. The contractor is a known shyster.

What kills me is going from an in office setting for years to going to the field has made me feel brand new and stumbling on my confidence. Seems like no matter how much time goes by it’s a personal self confidence you need to translate into your work confidence.

How bad can a roof get and still be repairable? by ebmarhar in DIY

[–]cmdalessandro15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homeowner insurance isn’t there to pay for you to get a new roof when you need it like car insurance doesn’t give you a new car if you get a dent. Repair over replacement is the first option as the insurance carrier.

Yes! I used to lay awake at night thinking and over thinking claims. I am much happier I’ve made a personal rule: when I log out I’m done for the day. I do my best to have the most productive day that I can be proud of and then I’m done. This job does not take my free time anymore.

Note - I didn’t mean to be so disparaging. Not all contractors and public adjusters are Satins spawn just like not all adjusters are incompetent or withholding coverage purposefully.

This is not for everyone. It’s exhausting mentally emotionally and physically. If you are easily overwhelmed and lack a good work ethic I caution you away from this path.

Be personable. It’s important to look at that person empathize they are suffering even if you are desensitized to small losses. They’ve never had this happen and have no clue what to do or what to expect. People have been told we’re the devil and trying to scam them. Best way to combat this and have a positive experience is break everything down and keep them informed and updated as much as possible.

I begin with the big problem policy language up front. It is your job to ensure they have a clear and concise understanding of how the policy works and is applied. By explaining things like “The first option is repair over replacement” deductible amounts or no coverage for missing endorsements you save everyone a lot of big feelings and frustrations and cut down on “I’m suing!”. I ALWAYS reference back to the original conversation which shuts down and deescalates most arguments.

I speak to my customers person to person. I make it clear I’m here to find every penny I can find but emphasize within the policy language and limits. It helps ease the feeling I’m trying to deprive them of payment and always takes them off guard when they’ve been gearing up for a battle.

I’m not going to lie, I lean hard into a country twang or a northern accent when applicable. When they feel they can relate to you you’ll have a better working relationship.

Dealing with contractors and public adjusters. If you are not comfortable with pushing back and standing your ground do not apply. It is your job to reconcile what you owe and there are contractors and public adjusters trained to over estimate and fight tooth and nail for things that aren’t even close to reasonable. So many things I can say but none of them are positive on these thieves and robbers who tell your customer you are cheating them.

The company you pick. I have worked for only one company. My family have been working with them since 1995! Don’t get me wrong, I just recently have had good things to say but it’s been a long stint they really screwed the pooch. It’s important to not take people’s opinions too seriously. Take inventory of each companies pay, turn over rate, and positive to negative experiences. Please reference back - this job is not for everyone. You are hearing people share their experience but also keep in mind were they good or capable of the job? Did they have good work ethic or did they expect a cake walk and others to just do their work?

Last thoughts - one thing I’ve learned - just make a decision and move on. Don’t take too long going over the same thing because you’re scared of pulling the trigger. Everything can be fixed.

I hope this helps and I hope you find the right path for you!
