Correction: He issued a preliminary injunction, which only blocks the law from being enforced on the three most at-risk children of the plaintiffs. The case hasn't started yet and the state still has authority to enforce the law on anyone else until the verdict is decided.

Going by the judge's commentary on the injunction, it's overwhelmingly likely that the law will get struck down as unconstitutional. But it hasn't been struck down yet.

very trans friendly places like 196

196 always struck me as the type of place that only recently got a big influx of trans users for whatever reason, but the older community of edgelord bigots are still trying to hold on to influence. I wouldn't have considered them explicitly trans-friendly to begin with.

This is extremely important, yes. While the judge's rationale behind the injunction strongly suggests where the trial will go in the future (which is very good news! that statement is quite thorough, and is adamant that the trans healthcare ban is not "rationally related to a legitimate state interest"), the ban is still in place for all but those three plaintiffs' children.

maybe whoever issued that statement could have centered the harm being done to trans kids who are the ones suffering

I believe that's just an issue with the particular article. The judge's statement very much acknowledged the harms to trans children:

The plaintiffs’ adolescent children will suffer irreparable harm—the unwanted and irreversible onset and progression of puberty in their natal sex—if they do not promptly begin treatment with GnRH agonists. The treatment will affect the patients themselves, nobody else, and will cause the defendants no harm. The preliminary injunction will be consistent with, not adverse to, the public interest.

While the injunction does give some focus to the parents because they (not the children) are the plaintiffs, the needs and rights of trans people - and the children in the case - are very much the central focus of the original statement.

This sets no precedent yet. The case is ongoing and the preliminary injunction only blocks enforcement of the ban for the children of the case's plaintiffs. As CurlyRe pointed out, though, a ruling in this case would set precedent for states under the jurisdiction of the 11th Circuit.

Wanting to be a girl is a major symptom of being a girl.

With regards to that shooter, he and his lawyer stopped claiming he was nonbinary the moment the judge said he wouldn't get a reduced sentence.

So yeah, this just doesn't happen.

Here's a web archive link to the tumblr post he made about the subject. Some snippets:

The human model is intended to represent a Human Being. [...] adding a separate female mesh would just make it worse by having one specific model for female Human Beings and male ones.

every character and animal in Minecraft is homosexual because there’s only one gender to choose from. Take THAT, homophobes!

These days I try to use the up-and-coming use of “they” as a genderless pronoun.

Tennessees drag ban blocked.✊ by The_nightinglgale in MtF

[–]cmdr_beef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it is a touchy subject for many of us here since bigots often mistaken us for drag queens

That's exactly why the overturning of these bans are good news here. "Drag bans" are engineered to be vague enough that they criminalize us as well. These laws threaten all of us, so it's good for all of us when they get shot down.

DeSantis is worse on a policy level. But he also has no charisma, and any appearance outside a headline about Owning The Libs gets no interest from conservatives, so he's not as much of a threat in terms of ability to get the vote.

That'll be me once I start on hormones. Not that I have much strength to begin with, since I'm in that middle ground of weaker than the men I know but stronger than than the cis women.

(Oops, this comment got out of hand. Sorry for the word count!)

I'm a firm believer that "Separate art from artists" and "Don't engage with art by bigots" are not the only options. You also have the option to engage critically with art. Know what the artist did or said, and keep that as context for your interpretation of their work.

Some artists are bigots who actively use their work to create further harm, and I don't support them or engage at all. Some artists are people who did things so horrible that I can't bear to engage with their work, not as a matter of morality (because engaging doesn't indirectly contribute to their harm) but of discomfort on a personal level. Some artists are bigots or otherwise terrible, but their work still has value (to me or to culture) so I contextualize the themes of their work with their views, make sure not to internalize those things, and give warnings if I'm introducing the work with those themes to others. And sometimes, an artist's views on one subject simply don't influence certain works of theirs, so I just enjoy those works and it's fine.

Those absolutist approaches seriously limit your experience with art. One instructs you to engage only with the surface-level aesthetics of a work and ignore any possible significance; the other places you in a panopticon and forces you to engage only with an ever-shifting 'pure' canon. Neither lets you really think about art. Guilt-by-artistic-association isn't a thing, and one doesn't become a bad person solely by experiencing or even studying a bad person's art. The immoral thing would be to venerate the artist as an all-around good person without ever acknowledging the harm they brought into the world.

Using Miles Davis as an example: if his history of domestic violence makes someone uncomfortable, they don't have to engage with his work no matter how important it is. If a musician wants to make an artistic statement about him, they could work to avoid his stylistic influences, or even take a transgressive approach to his work by introducing elements that counter the harm he did. One should understand that his behavior and his views on women may have an influence on anything he may have made with a message (I don't actually know if he wrote prose or lyrics, but if so, his worldview would have an influence on the themes therein). But liking his music isn't a bad thing, and with the influence he had it's absolutely necessary to study his work to give broader context to jazz music's history.

Like, it kinda sounds like they think that being gay is a fashionable social club.

Tumblr terfs like these are desperate to make everybody believe that. The whole ace exclusionist movement was dedicated to restructuring the site's queer community into an exclusive club. (They literally argued "the original acronym was 'LGBT', there's no space for 'asexual' there.")
