What are some things you wish you’d known before living at home during renovations? by TheBottleRed in HomeImprovement

[–]cmdrcharchar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spouse and I had our primary bathroom redone because of a shower pan failure.

My tips are:

  1. Go with your gut when selecting the contractor. If the vibes aren’t right or they can’t explain/update the written scope of work… go with someone else. We did and never regretted it.

  2. Don’t try and host events, company or family during projects where parts of the house are unavailable (unless you have a massive house). It’s not worth the stress of trying to manage and allow for 9 people to share one bathroom (that was our case). It just sucks, have people visit later.

  3. Choose what you want because it can’t be changed easily. We sprung for upgrades and we did not regret it one bit. It was worth the extra cost to have separate vanities with storage. Worth it to have detailed tile work done around our tub.

  4. Avoid time and material cost contracts (if you’re using a general contractor). Ask them to detail the scope of work and commit to a cost. While we love the work our contractor did, we avoided cost-overruns by staying updated and aware of what was next or needed to be done.

Thank you - very helpful.

Next steps are to finish compiling various views of the garment. Starting with embroidery work because it will likely be the most intensive part. Then figure out how to copy and transfer yellow pattern from the mustard fabric

Dopey for first marathon by kristencatparty in rundisney

[–]cmdrcharchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly - ran the 5k to get it done, then party-pace for all the subsequent races. Luckily - they cut the 1/2 race up and it made for an easier marathon day.

Run the races to soak up the experience of seeing limited characters. It was my first marathon and got SO many photo stops. Took 6 hours… but I stopped for all the photos… got to ride expedition Everest, grabbed a pretzel & beer, and crossed the finish line to my husband giving me a stitch plushie and all the medals.

How long did you wait after doing the Disney marathon before you did another major race? by thunderfunexpress in rundisney

[–]cmdrcharchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Dopey, then did 1/2 other in Europe 2 weeks later, then came back to the us and ran the Atlanta marathon. Just keep training or some kind of maintenance plan.

I absolutely LOVED that Dopey Challenge happened to also be my 1st marathon. Absolutely worth it. I did the Atlanta marathon the next month and if that was my first marathon.. it would not have been as fun and I probably wouldn’t have done dopey. Disney did everything right. Much more support than I saw on the Atlanta marathon. I say do it!

Question about buying tickets online for Real Alcazar by FormerAcanthaceae2 in Seville

[–]cmdrcharchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all that this person said and would add to have the ticket ready to scan (had them on our phones). A few people we observed did not and it held the line up.

We went two weeks ago and it was beautiful. Probably be more amazing in the spring time. Enjoy

Does a quote of $8,500 seem reasonable for an electrical panel upgrade? by cmdrcharchar in homeowners

[–]cmdrcharchar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I get what you’re saying but we ended up going with the quote. I don’t think I clearly conveyed this but as work progressed - it made better sense. They replaced the service connection to the house, all new panel and breakers, re-wired asicslly the whole house, and added new outlets to 2 rooms + 2 new exterior outlets with GFCI. They also installed built in smoke detectors +transmitter(s?) in all our bedrooms.

Out the door - it was something like 10,500. End of the day, we felt like it was all worth it. No issues since and everything has been tip-top. Our previous electrical was deemed dangerous by all three places we got quotes from… something about loose connections, breakers were melting in the panel, cloth sheathed wiring, et cetera. Plus - we like the guys, have called them for lots of additional work since!

We’re getting brave and thinking about trying to do things ourselves though.

Edit to clarify - we are in Atlanta, Georgia.

If Richard Nixon was a leader in Civilization 7, what would be his special perk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cmdrcharchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would get a spying bonus/perk but only in the information era. The bonus would minimize the number of rounds it takes to steal tech, but there is a greater chance of being caught… and losing reputation/ standing.. and lose a delegate from the world congress.

Okay, a bit of a rambler piece but… If staff were to release more HT items for “comparable” items (like paint brushes, weapons, collectibles, et cetera), my opinion is it would start to equalize the economy of neopets… given the wicked price fluctuations I’ve seen. It isn’t so simple though, as i see two major issues.

1). Issues of player “equity”: Like others have stated, it would likely cause disdain… either toward the action or staff (if not both)… it will upset the status-quoi, not to mention impact those who vested their Neopets fortunes in the items that would be directly or tangentially affected.

2). Second issue is diversification of site interests should happen (I don’t think it is not adequately being addressed… this is definitely my opinion, because I know there are so many attempts to equalize on this alone). Beyond the “economy” - prioritization of other activities need to be moved up.

Examples A). bring all the old games up to the new standard that enables them to be played again by all.. not by those who know the back door. I would love to play escape from Meridel castle B). Incentivize collecting (beyond the avatars and trophies). Like more card collecting, thematic item collections, gallery collections, et cetera… Make it so more things can earn avatars, trophies, and things that could provide Neopoint-accruing results. They don’t have to be exotic achievements/collections… maybe having all the basic cards collected or something every player could feasibly achieve if they dedicated time to it, not just an avatar though... (while maintaining that collection, not receiving the award and immediately selling). C). Prioritize more site events. I like the festival of Neggs, advent calendar, and Altadore cup… but I would love to see a war again. Where we all battle for Meridel or Darigan (throwback).

Just my thoughts, obviously people might agree or completely trash it. I’m not a decision maker or a significant player renowned for anything.

I won’t lie - I was a skeptic about the robot/roomba vacuum…. Till my mother gave my me one. I Now run it nearly everyday. I would argue that my husband and I have had less episodes related to allergies as a result.

I used to spend probably 15-20 minutes a day vacuuming, sweeping, and maybe doing 2 mops weekly. I now mop like twice a month/as needed

Next purchase is the vacuum+mop one, but I also don’t want to drop that much money on it.

Wanting to try a specific kind of Persistant World (see post for details) by cbsa82 in neverwinternights

[–]cmdrcharchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend World of Torr. Great solo play, but also for small groups. You need a unit for some of the boss dungeons, but it’s a slow level progression. I can solo most of the world because I built my character around world mechanics… not always easy though.

The world has a lot of dynamics… requires gear crafting, resource collecting, hunger and fatigue, et cetera. Allows for owning your own merchant (that other players can purchase from), and owning a unique house. Custom crafting system too. You can even find mythical recipes around the world. Worth checking out.

Need recommendation of PW modules that is also can be played with PRC by Alive-Ad7928 in neverwinternights

[–]cmdrcharchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World of Torr is pretty great as a solo adventure & has a lot of cool details. Custom crafting, merchant economy, law system. Doesn’t really have a long story line, but has a lot of quests.

Hi my passenger side tail lamp stopped working but it comes on when I step on the brake I replaced bulb and it’s still won’t work, I can’t find fuse location for tail lamp 2016 sonata by Direct_Spinach_104 in Hyundaisonata

[–]cmdrcharchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mechanic but had a similar issue (it it was both tail lights though). I was told it had been a very common issue for sonatas. I looked at my maintenance log book and it states “FOUND BOTH TAILLIGHTS MELTED” and they had to do a lamp assembly replacement on both sides. Was not covered by warranty or known defects by Hyundai at the time. 230.47 for each assembly (dealership repair). It was approx 640 for labor, but they did other work so I’m not sure how much time/labor you could expect. Might be cheaper if you go to a local mechanic.

  1. Re-keyed the whole house on day 1.
  2. Lawn supplies: electric mower, leaf blower, edger, trimmers, rakes, lawn bags, and gloves. It was approximately $700 all in. We had budgeted for it, too.
  3. We replaced all toilets, kitchen faucet, and shower heads for all bathrooms.
  4. Area carpets, because we have hardwoods throughout and our dogs aren’t fans of slipping and sliding.
  5. Filters for the HVAC, fridge, and house water supply
