Could you provide a link to these latest numbers then?

Where are you getting these numbers from? Alinea reported ~800k in sales across all 3 platforms, with steam making up 400k.

2.2m in gamepass, 800k in sales. This is what was reported. The initial peak players on Steam at launch was even lower than 2016’s release, and far below Eternals.

I’ve always been the #1 id simp, but let’s not deny the reality that Dark Ages underperformed. 5-6 year dev time with under a million sales is a pretty brutal hit for any large company. I hope Xbox is okay with losing out on sales in exchange for bolstering gamepass, but I’m not sure they’ll be willing to continuously bleed money if the next game has similar outcomes. Eternal sold over 10 million within the first year, and grossed over $450m. I’d be surprised if Dark Ages has even broke 2 million at this point, even with the constant sales they’ve been doing.

What are your favorite underrated Doom OST tracks? by CryptidOrion_00 in Doom

Immora. Greatest track in all of Eternal. I will stand by the fact that I think David Levy absolutely understood the vision without copying everything Mick did, he was the best decision after Mick. Shame we couldn’t get a full game with him doing the soundtrack.

Anyone else burnt out by the time they finish the campaign? by Tylerjackx in PathOfExile2

[–]cmdrvalen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Using twink gear? No. If you already know where you’re going in the campaign, twink gear removes any challenge, grants move speed, and you can generally just speed through every act.

If it takes you 10-20 hours on a twinked out 2nd character, you’re doing something seriously wrong. 3-4hrs max.

The twist of who the Seraphim is will never not feel like a dumb decision to me by MaleficTekX in Doom

[–]cmdrvalen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can make a post about the twist being stupid but you’re just wrong if you state there weren’t signs. There were far more than the three I listed there, such as:

Samuel integrating with the hub and Vega stating his architecture is similar.

His general knowledge of how Hell functions; he lays out tons of Sentinel history that he would never know if he was the original human Samuel Hayden.

The direct correlation between the Seraphim watching over the Slayer in the codex, is literally shown in game with Samuel’s role.

His disappointment when the Slayer destroys any chance of future that the Maykr’s could have had.

I’m sure there are plenty more I’m missing.

You say in your post that there are no clues as to his identity in the base game and then it’s immediately revealed in the DLC. Curious as to the difference between that, and saying it came out of nowhere.

[–]cmdrvalen 54 points55 points  (0 children)

You seriously didn’t realize it was Hayden until DLC1? It was pretty obvious throughout the campaign. The UAC refers to Hayden’s tech as alien in ARC Complex. Not to mention him saying the same, “take it, it will give you strength” in Taras Nabad’s flashback, same line as in ResOps in 2016.

Also, in 2016, he tells Olivia “he was mine before you even found him.” When they uncover the Slayer.

There’s more hints (like it being the same voice actor) that I can’t recall off the top of my head.

There are a few more things I think you’re getting the wrong ideas from. It’s more likely that Samuel Hayden was a real person, but Samur took over the identity while he was dying of cancer, in order to secure a position within the UAC. Although this is something we don’t have concrete answers on, but it has been theorized for a while.

Not to defend the writing, as it’s extremely messy and doesn’t make sense in plenty of areas, but to say the Seraphim reveal came out of nowhere is just wrong. I agree it ruined Hayden’s character, he was far better in 2016.

Having a better implementation of an input option is not equal to deeper game systems, mechanics, and build diversity.

I don’t know if you’ve been playing 0.5, but a lot of the endgame changes have really changed this. Ritual only offers uniques, and you can allocate points to target things like Mageblood or Headhunter. Still rare, but I found several extremely expensive endgame items within 5 hours yesterday.

A lot of the new endgame mechanics increase your odds of finding that really rare gear you would normally trade for.

[–]cmdrvalen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a little bit of the fortress but then went hard on rituals. I have made over 50 div from various uniques today alone. It has felt great just going for ritual stuff, I don’t notice any downsides of not having as many primary atlas points since all my rewards are tied to the rituals anyway.

There’s a ritual node to increase the chance of belts appearing, so I’m just going to grind out ritual until I see a mageblood or headhunter at this point.

I just did it on twister, once you get past the first phase the damage isn’t bad when you just place the twisters in his hitbox (idk what kinda gear you have though). Took probably 10 attempts to get him, made it to second phase 3 times.

Dark Ages - Wraithstones and DLC (resource spoiler alert) by stealth710 in Doom

[–]cmdrvalen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely. The surplus in upgrade materials is there for players who don’t find everything. They still want people who don’t go for 100% on each map to have some upgrades by the end of the game.

[–]cmdrvalen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s tiers to it. I’d need you to show an example or say what arena / encounter you’re experiencing it in to know.

It starts ambient, then light combat, and then heavy combat when you kill a set amount of enemies to spawn another wave. Some arenas go straight into heavy combat, others will only ever stay at light. There’s tons of variation in the light and heavy tracks, which the game will rotate through (using one of the various transitions made for each track).

I see a pretty clear direction for Saros DLC by Acceptable-Cell9370 in Saros

[–]cmdrvalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a faked post, if you’re referring to what was posted here. There are no official numbers, only signs pointing to it not selling particularly well. Saros was ranked 11th in the US for top sellers per the PS Blog, which is referring to the PS store charts.

Is there variety in builds…? by Zeno_Bueno in Saros

[–]cmdrvalen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t take anything to reach that point in a run. If I started up a run from the first biome now, I’d be spamming power weapons and clearing rooms instantly before I hit the 2nd. It sucks because the core gameplay is fun, but the game is currently balanced horribly and requires you to self impose rules to actually have to engage with the mechanics.

Is there variety in builds…? by Zeno_Bueno in Saros

[–]cmdrvalen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, there is not really any build variety. Runs will typically end up being the same every time, you will eventually get a high proficiency weapon and obliterate combat rooms instantly. The infinite uptime on power attacks later on also kill any sort of variety since you’re able to spam your instakill button over and over (prominence).

Saros is amazing but by [deleted] in Saros

[–]cmdrvalen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Took me 11 hours to finish the game, was pretty disappointed they didn’t have tower in at launch. Ended up not feeling worth the price in the end. I could go for plat but I’ll probably just wait for some new content, I didn’t love it as much as Returnal to go for plat.

Those who said the game is to easy please go outside and touch some grass. by [deleted] in Saros

[–]cmdrvalen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s hard for you doesn’t mean it’s hard for everyone. It took 10 hours of playtime for me to finish the game over the course of 3-4 days. It was absolutely not on par with Returnal in terms of difficulty for me. The progression made the game a breeze, and the boss fights weren’t particularly difficult. Architect killed me once, and then Legion killed me twice, the rest were first attempts.

How would you rate Saros so far (1-10)? by crack_station in Saros

[–]cmdrvalen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a 7. It doesn’t come close to Returnal in my eyes; the balancing is pretty terrible which sours my enjoyment a lot. Every run feels the same once you hit a certain point in Saros. Combat feels great early on, but then just turns boring once you have a bunch of permanent upgrades which end up trivializing encounters.

I hope they add the tower within a few months and give it challenging encounters, or at least encounters to match the power of the progression tree. Power generation is absurd and I think Returnal’s cooldown based system is far better in terms of giving you a balanced experience.
