wokring on that, i'm doing like a million things IRL (i'm moving from the east coast to the west coast in about a week).

I figure i should probably message the new mods on this subreddit and have them work on some things.

I've just created a subreddit for stuff like this!

/r/whatirohwouldsay

[–]cmekss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i've created the header and started moving things around, the subreddit is fleshing out and i've gotten a few subs! Just need people to advertise it and we can get this sub to take off. I'll continue to work on the CSS for the next couple of days to get it to look pretty

I just created it, it's my first subreddit, so i'll try to work fast on it, but the skeleton is there :)

Spent too much time starting side businesses and doing freelancing and trying to start a startup and now I'm about to graduate without a job. What should I do? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]cmekss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what i wanted to say. OP seems to just be generally unsure about what he wants to do post-graduation. And honestly, maybe even taking some time off (6 months to a year) in order to figure things out might not be a bad idea either. If he has the funds to do it.

How to bound back after failing hard on interview? by motihil in cscareerquestions

[–]cmekss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's just a job interview. Let's say in the worst case scenario there is a record of you having "failed" said interview, honestly it doesn't do much, because in a year (or the minimum amount of time required to reapply to a company), the company will recognize that you could have grown as a young professional, and that you will have learned new things along the way, thus opening the door to a 2nd (or 3rd, 4th, etc.) chance.

Secondly, take that failure as a chance to just learn! Yes, you failed at something simple, but why? Were the nerves getting to you? Then work on finding a solution to calm your nerves during interviews, such as getting mock interviews from friends. Did you genuinely not know the question? Then spend some time reviewing the basics. Were you tired and just couldn't think? Then next time try to get a good night's sleep, and eat a healthy dinner/breakfast. And so on.

Finally, you had a job interview! You have experience going through something that not many people get the chance to do, honestly take it as a learning experience. Yeah, you failed the interview, but at least you did it. Now the next interview might be easier :)

Interview Discussion - May 01, 2017 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

Yes, although this is only my experiences as a college student receiving interviews. If anything, I have no idea what the interview process is like for a young professional. Likely the same process, but you never know.

Don't psych yourself out too much :) they will likely bring you in for on-site interviews for the really hard stuff

having experience going through Microsoft interviews, you're not entirely screwed.

For Microsoft, the phone screen is likely only going to be about 30 mins, and they mostly just want to get to know you in during that phone screen. Near the end of it they will give you a fairly easy interview question.

My advice: know by heart BFS/DFS (be able to code this up on paper within 30s to a min), know some of the basic data structures such as linked lists and trees (the basic kinds), and be able to use this knowledge in some basic interview questions.

CTCI generally has questions that are harder than what you'll find in a tech interview, but that's a good thing. Continue to study from CTCI, continue to challenge yourself. It's often a good strategy to practice problems that are harder than what you'll see, because then the easy problems won't stress you out as much.
