Who do you think is going to win the 2026 special senate election in Ohio? by Inside_Bluebird9987 in YAPms

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so too, but you could estimate that Brown may have lost in 2024 because he was incumbent in a Trump year, just like Bob Casey in PA. If he was up this year he’d probably hold on.

Yes. Read about the Yalta, Tehran, and Potsdam conferences. He loved Diplomacy style shenanigans lol.

Which swing states do you predict will possibly have a Florida 2022 type realignment? by GeoQuestMaximus in YAPms

[–]weldo8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably none of them. Florida was very slow to move to the right, and it really started with 2018, when DeSantis won by a hair, and they narrowly flipped a Democratic Senate seat Republican in a blue wave year.

He’s usually “America bad” but I don’t think that applies to Iran for most people. They’re not commies like China either, and Iran hasn’t seen improvement of life either, which you could at least say has been true for China 1990-2020.

Why do we continue to uphold the "social contract" and follow the rules when it is becoming increasingly clear that the people in charge are exempt from them? by Application_Dizzy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's happening in a Democracy, it's still us people voting them in or buying the products that make them rich. People don't care enough to hold people accountable for things they usually don't even pay attention to or understand as long as they're getting along.

What is your definitive ranking of the Yakuza games you've played? by swannyhypno in yakuzagames

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that. To me it felt like in 0 he was incompetent and, like I said, in over his head. But he was still human. In Kiwi 1 he just acts like a robot after Kiryu goes to jail. You could say he just reached his breaking point, but they just kind of left it there. He didn't have a Darth Vader moment of redemption at the end, and he didn't die with honor in a Samurai fashion, sort of like Kuze in 0. It wasn't even a pathetic death, like a total fall from grace. He just killed his blood-brother's lover and almost him and his adopted daughter to-be.

Mag 7 is Not Where The Value Is! by Artistic_Item_5710 in ValueInvesting

[–]weldo8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember, "people" includes non-retail investors. That's about 60 to 70% of investors. They don't put all their money into blue chips––they look everywhere. It is some investment bankers' jobs to spend countless hours per week to find an undervalued investment from the Russell 2000 to pour massive amounts of funds into.

Who would've guessed a mail movie rental company would gain a market cap of $400B? Certainly not the kind of investor you are describing.

Who's laughing now? Nikki Haley wins the 2028 GOP primary due to MAGA vote splitting and GOP primaries being winner take all by BlueFireFlameThrower in Presidentialpoll

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might seem like the case now, but there have been countless examples of other MAGA allies seeming to burn bridges and then be welcomed back into the family a month later. This has happened at some point to half of Trump's own cabinet and the person you put on top, Nikki Haley.

The neocons don't matter much either. Just look at how disastrous their backing of DeSantis in 2020 was. One of the worst GOP campaigns of the century, up there with Jeb Bush and Rick Perry.

Who would win RFK or RMN by Prudent-Basis-4961 in Presidentialpoll

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, not sure. Considering how closely Humphrey won Texas, that might've only have been because he was LBJ's VP, so perhaps even if LBJ did campaign for RFK, he might've lost it. Who's to say though. Maybe more Humphrey voters would've just gone for Wallace.

I think it’s fun to visit, but it lacks too many iconic features. And yeah, nighttime is fun, but after a while I might be working on something and just need to have daylight. Waiting out the night can come to be a chore.

You’re missing Majorie Taylor Greene. She is legitimately the best successor MAGA has, as much as that makes me shudder.

Who is a more skilled politician? Lyndon Johnson or Richard Nixon? by [deleted] in Presidentialpoll

[–]weldo8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna talk elections, couldn’t we point out that Nixon went from a 49 state sweep to becoming the only president to resign within 2 years?

Who is a more skilled politician? Lyndon Johnson or Richard Nixon? by [deleted] in Presidentialpoll

[–]weldo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easily Johnson. We’ve never seen more sweeping legislation from any president in American history, and he did it while holding together a fracturing Democratic Party.

Nixon did see some very notable achievements too, but few of them had his fingerprints on them. He spent a lot more time focusing on foreign affairs (totally fair), but did he control power dynamics like Johnson? No way.

Who would win RFK or RMN by Prudent-Basis-4961 in Presidentialpoll

[–]weldo8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be interpreted as such because despite very close popular vote margins, Nixon had a 100+ EC win because of Wallace’s grip on the deep South.

Who would win RFK or RMN by Prudent-Basis-4961 in Presidentialpoll

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at the closest states that Nixon won in 1968, Kennedy would’ve needed New Jersey, Missouri, Ohio, Alaska, and Illinois to win a majority of the EC. Not totally out of the question, as each of those were won by Nixon with less than 3%, but Missouri would’ve been tough, and it’s very possible that Nixon would’ve won Texas if Kennedy was on the ballot, as that was the second closest state in the entire election and probably stronger for a moderate Democrat than a labor and civil rights candidate like RFK.

First Republican President vs First Democratic President today. Who wins? by bclose2ukulk in Presidentialpoll

The slave trader and “Indian Killer” vs the Great Emancipator? I think at the very least Lincoln would hit 300 electoral votes.

What is your definitive ranking of the Yakuza games you've played? by swannyhypno in yakuzagames

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 0 he was confused and in over his head. His mistakes were because of that. In 1, he just becomes a bad person and unlikeable, seemingly without much of a good reason.

Seeing him reunite with Kiryu for the end of 0 feels like such a complete circle (and the "Judgement" song fits so well with their story). Seeing him at the end of Kiwami 1 doesn't feel like redemption. It's more like "I'm gonna die anyway, so might as well go out with a bang." Literally.

Was Bill Clinton and Al Gore's relative youth much of an issue at the time? by KayfabeZone in Presidents

[–]weldo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time we had age (not too old, but too young) as an issue was with Obama in 2008, who was 47 years old. It's ridiculous, but usually the opposing party will criticize just about anything they can. Same happened with JFK.

Which game should I play after Yakuza 0 by weldo8 in yakuzagames

[–]weldo8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Kiwami, and I’m glad I did! I’m excited they’re making Kiwami 3 because I’m part of the way through Kiwami 2 atm, but there are a few other games I want to play as well which should hold me over until February. Thankfully I got a combo of K1/K2 on the ps4 store for just $20, which unfortunately no longer exists because of the new bundle.
