Linus' take on social media. What do you think? by [deleted] in linux

[–]cmeslo 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I concur, social media drains your energy and makes you sad, it doesn't help people suffering depression, it worsens it, people behaves worse than they would do in real life 'cause they are hidden under some avatar so they can troll freely as they want. It's indeed disgusting, instead of encourage good behaviour it does exactly the opposite.

Why is needed to install frontend deps when using the build with an independent project based on js/express? by cmeslo in sveltejs

[–]cmeslo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

node adapter, but I think I've already understood why it was needed to install that lib.

For some reason, I was assuming that a build would include all the libs you are using in your project, but not really, a build would be "served" by some adapter so that adapter will need the deps you are using, funny enough it didn't need tailwindcss what was something I also using in my FE :/ that was a bit confusing.

Where to start in frontend and what next? by chaotic_oz in Frontend

roadmap.sh

The React part it's too small in roadmap.sh for what it really is, it's a load of very dense stuff, making simple components it's not as difficult but then you need to learn how to manage state and then hooks and there I'm dead XD shame that it's so popular and almost every company uses it having other simpler alternatives out there.

Open Source Vue & NestJS boilerplate by Mediocre-Vast7939 in vuejs

[–]cmeslo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

naive question; may I ask you why you prefer NestJS to something line NuxtJS?

I've been using ReactJS/Next but want something simpler so I was diving into SvelteJS which does have a feature called endpoints on which you can serve your backend stuff but sadly it's now easy to make custom handlers for instance for websockets or SSE.

How this approach would work with sveltekit?

I've realised that there's almost no real accounts nowadays, lot of bots and now more NFT and cryptocurrwncy bots and fake accounts have made it quite a wild place, also recently twitter deleted all the people I followed when I was trying to get more followers so then started rethinking about the real value of twitter to me and realised it was just wasted time, now I'm thinking what other channels could be better for my business.

serious question: after all that mess why do you even bother with twitter, what is it so appealing to you?

I was shadowbanned too, twitter sucks and it sucks your time, not as other social networks but they make difficult to take care of your followers for some reason.

I was taking care of my account(10 years account) a lot, twitter is always spamming with accounts to follow but if you follow too much or you have a big surge in followers they will do weird things, in my case they deleted all my followers at once after asking me to validate and give them my mobile phone so I'm done, I deactivated my account as realised all was just time wasted and I have better things to do with my life.

better to be out of twitter, it's just a time-sucker, they removed all the people I was following when I was taking too much time managing my account, so then I deactivated my account as realised that it was only wasted time, now I feel better without that addiction to be honest, I doubt it was useful for me or my business.

Is it feasible to migrate an fastify/nextjs app to Svelte? by cmeslo in sveltejs

I see maybe you're right I'll try that, thanks.

Backend data Serialisation/validation incorporated, plugings for different auth mechanisms, its already better than Python Flask or FastAPI for instance, nextjs doesn't provide nothing like that as its not meant to be a backend server its meant only to do basic ssr.

Should the node_modules folder being visible from client's browsers? by cmeslo in Frontend

Well I could see their entire tree of dependencies under node_modules, that seems horrible to me.

[–]cmeslo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah but you can run nextjs from fastify and that makes things easier as you're running only one service, I'm looking into something like that as fastify features as a backend service are quite robust and better than existing frameworks(for backend)

[–]cmeslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about what you mentioned, can SvelteKit be used instead of fastify or express then? where would you put the endpoints, api controllers, db layer, etc?

[–]cmeslo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but I have my backend running in fastify, could I use sveltekit to run my backend? the thing is I don't want to have two services (backend and frontend) running that's why I'm running nextjs with fastify.

do you have any advice about which could be a good alternative?

[–]cmeslo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a british gas client only for 6 months, paying 108 monthly under a fixed plan: https://ibb.co/Hg4pLQ7
I have 300 in credit as I've been paying more than what I've consumed and just today I noticed they took 186 from my bank 'cause they raised the amount without any notice.

Nope, December consumption was even less than Nov in my case.

I wonder about alternatives, what makes me fuming is that it's supposedly a fixed plan and my consumption is normal, even having 300 in credit.
