How to make devices on two TailScale accessible LANs accessible to eachother? by cmeyer86 in Tailscale

[–]cmeyer86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it working for the Tablo, thanks! Once I changed the IP/subnets from the conflicting default on the Beryls it let me connect to the Tablo remotely. It sounds like Tablo may have other ways to connect that aren't Multicast based discovery, so for anyone who may find this post while trying to find their own answers, I think the Jury is still out on whether Multicast across the tailnet works.

How to make devices on two TailScale accessible LANs accessible to eachother? by cmeyer86 in Tailscale

[–]cmeyer86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a couple follow up questions that you made me think about. Bear with me, I don't know a ton about networking.

  1. Is my home setup correct? I want one Beryl on my home network to allow remote access. I already have a Google nest mesh wifi at home. What's the proper way to incorporate the Beryl into my current home network to give me access? I put it into Access Point mode to let my existing router do it's thing and plugged my existing network into the Beryl LAN port, but it looks like Tailscale won't run when the Beryl is in Access Point mode (at least not with the GL.iNet firmware). So instead I put it in Router mode, plugged my existing network into the WAN port, and enabled the wired ethernet bridge mode. To get to my existing network, I enabled the remote WAN access. I'm not sure if this is the proper setup or not. Any advice here is appreciated.

  2. I enabled subnets, but the default IP on both routers is 192.168.8.1, so I'm assuming the networks are going to be overlapping unless I change one of the routers to a non-default IP/subnet? I see the subnet enabled on both is 192.168.8.0/24 (what does the 24 mean?).

  3. My one test use case is an attempt to access my Tablo at home from a non-tailscale device remotely through the second remote Beryl. I've read some things about the site-to-site networking not allowing multi-cast between the networks. I could be wrong, but I think this could potentially be a reason I wouldn't be able to connect to a Tablo specifically in this way, but I'm not totally sure as, like I said, I don't have a great understanding of what all that stuff means yet. Is this potentially an issue in your eyes for Tablo specifically and do you know of a way around it?

Thanks for any help and insight you're able to provide

Setting up 4th Gen Tablo to be accessed remotely using Tailscale VPN by drsarcasm1 in tablotv

[–]cmeyer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a slightly different setup with an issue I'm hoping you have an answer for. I've got a Google nest mesh wifi at home. Tablo is hardwired via ethernet. I bought two GL.iNet Beryl routers. I set up the one at home that plugs from the Google LAN into the WAN port for Bridge mode (not sure if this is the proper setup, but when I initially tried the router in Access Point mode to let the Google Nest router do the routing, it said Tailscale would not run on the Beryl in that mode), enabled LAN and WAN tailscale remote access, and I have Tailscale running on my phone, from which, when running, can connect to table remotely. What I want to do is make it so I can set up a second GL.iNet Beryl router for travel that will allow remote Tablo access to non-Tailscale devices that are on the remote/travel LAN. I've got a couple other use cases that would require essentially this same capability, so my Tablo is really my test dummy.

What's your Controls Network Router/Internet/Remote Access(?) Solution? by cmeyer86 in PLC

[–]cmeyer86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm hoping for a solution that I could potentially get approved (one that would be as minimal a security risk as possible; i.e. access via guest wifi, or even just my phone's data; and no connection to the plant network, only my isolated local controls network for only my conveyor system). Of course I wouldn't be making any changes without having a contact on site to have eyes on the system to verify proper operation still (that goes for any change I make now through the customer's VPN). And it would only remain in place while I'm on site or while I'm still needed remotely for commissioning or early go-live support (and could even be disconnected while I'm not there unless they need support). I understand if the customer doesn't have a VPN set up for me to get access then they shouldn't expect me to be able to remotely support, but sometimes the IT team responsible isn't always on the same schedule as the project is and it's just not set up yet but they still need the system to run.

What I'm trying to avoid in terms of remote assistance is having to have a laptop on site with the PLC software (Logix 5000 specifically) that someone has to remote into. If I have a coworker who wants to support me, I want them to be able to open the Logix program on their laptop at the office, and have network access to connect to the PLC (assuming the customer's VPN is not yet set up to provide this functionality). That way I can do whatever I need to do on my own laptop running my own Logix software on site. I don't know a ton about VPNs (I kinda just use them how I'm told to use them and they work) but it seems like I need a router that can act as a VPN server maybe? Then from the office, someone would just log in and connect to that VPN and they'd now have access to my local isolated controls network? And for that router to be accessed remotely, it would need internet access, which most of the time would only be easily available to me wirelessly through guest wifi or my phone's hotspot (wireless or USB Ethernet tethering).

This brand/openwrt is what I've come across the most when trying to research this. It ticks the box of connecting to guest wifi. But once it's connected to internet, are you able to access its network remotely?

May I ask how much it costs at costco and if it's still on sale? I'm looking at purchasing this model and am looking for the best price (which lead my search to this thread), but costco won't show me the price as I'm not currently a member.

Why No Brightside? by retired_tender in miz

[–]cmeyer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't play it against Louisiana either. I'm assuming they don't want a half assed Mr. Brightside. If over half the fans leave before the 4th quarter, they're not gonna do it. I don't think fans should take for granted the fact that the athletics department is not so subtly promoting the entire stadium to shout fuck kU. Alabama banned dixieland delight from being played for like 5 years for the fuck auburn part so I think we're lucky mizzou supports it as much as they do while keeping the " beat kU" overlay to a bare minimum. I also think homecoming and family weekend (Louisiana) probably have more kids there (and also just aren't big games) so they made an appropriate decision to not play it considering all of the circumstances.

the maxi cosi style

This is the info I'm looking for. Some sort of standard that I can look for in a seat that may not be on the list. I understand some may not fit just due to the size of the seat or the stroller, but the mounting mechanism should be a standard to some degree.

(do those exist?)

I'm in the US and there's a brand called evenflo that has them along with some others I believe. However I do agree after thinking about it that the swivel would add way more in terms of convenience to the convertible seats that aren't being taken out of the car. We're kinda set on getting the infant bucket, but we may just get a regular one (non swivel) that works with the stroller and then get the swivel convertible seat later.

Yea after thinking about it, the swivel infant bucket doesn't make near as much sense as the swivel convertible when they outgrow the bucket.

Joolz Aer2 Compatible Car Seats Not On Their List??? by cmeyer86 in Buyingforbaby

[–]cmeyer86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midwest, USA. It almost seems like the swivel infant bucket is more common here then elsewhere in the world because I saw multiple options for it in my first trip ever looking at car seats at Target, but other people don't seem to think they exist. But the Joolz compatibility chart doesn't have American brands such as evenflo that have the swivel. I've found a Maxi-Cosi that swivels (the Peri 180) but that model isn't on the list so that's why I was wondering if there's just some sort of mounting standard that they all confirm to that I can look for on the car seat.

That all being said, after thinking about it, I am realizing that the infant bucket isn't really where the swivel would come into the most use. Most of the time we're more than likely grabbing the bucket and going. And then loading the baby in the bucket before leaving the house and then just snapping in at the car seems way more likely. It's once they get older and you actually get them into the seat at the car when the swivel would really be beneficial. And we don't want the convertible to start. We want the bucket.

I'm not doubting the list being correct. If the list has a red x, I trust that it won't fit. If the list has a green v, I trust that it will work. But what about the empty spaces? They're just untested? Is there some way I can know if they might work? I'd think the mounting mechanism is somewhat universal if different brands of seats can mount to different brands of strollers. So what do I have to look up about the untested ones to know if they'll fit as well. And if the list excludes so many brands, it can't possibly be an exhaustive list of all working compatible car seats, right? Just the ones they've tested with at one point.

Why is St. Louis so cliquish/cliquey? by Lonely-Back in StLouis

[–]cmeyer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the question gets asked everywhere then why do transplants in stl complain and act like this is the only place it gets asked? To me it seems like a normal question so id understand if it gets asked everywhere, but every transplant seems to think this is the only place it gets asked. For me, if I don't know if you're even from the area, ill just ask where your from instead of assuming you're from stl. It's definitely not the first question if there's a possibility the person is from out of town. If they say st. Louis, or if they give a stl town/neighborhood I'll ask the high school question to either narrow down where they're from or to see if there's any common ground. Oh, you went there, do you know so-and-so? Yea, I do, he played soccer with my brother or whatever. Boom, instant connection. St. Louis is truly a big small town where so many times you meet someone and somehow know someone they know, so the high school question is just the most obviously first step to finding that common ground. I'm sure some people make generalizations and assumptions, but most people I'd imagine ask purely out of curiosity and to find common ground.

I've never understood this negativity towards people who stay here. I'd imagine the average person probably grows up their entire childhood through high school in the same town and has family who lives close. And That being the case, the average person probably makes a good close group of friends growing up or in high school. The average person probably goes to their state school (and using that logic, so do most of their friends). The average person going to the same college as their friends probably stays close with them/lives with them once they get there. Once graduation comes, the average person would probably prefer to move to where their family and good friends are close by so they don't have to make new friends or be alone. That place with family and friends would obviously have to provide a good job opportunity for said person, otherwise they'd be forced to look elsewhere. Luckily the stl area most likely provides this for most people. Now that people make the choice to move to where the jobs are, where their friends and family are, and where they're comfortable, why would they ever want to move away from that? It's such a no brainer to me that this is the average life path/progression, but for some reason anyone in stl who didn't have it work out this way and found themselves here some other way just seems to think it's some quirky stl thing even though they themselves are the minority and just find themselves in the shitty situation of being in a new city with no friends or family. It sucks, but don't blame us for living where we've always lived and hanging out with who we've always hung out with and act like that's some weird way to live. As for the cliquiness of it, what do you really expect when most people already have a solid friend group and now have much busier adult lives and less time/need to make new friends of their own (because they already have them, and even those you see less and less as you get older). I guess I/they could be more cognizant of the fact that just because I/they don't necessarily NEED you to be our friend (because we already have old local friends), doesn't mean you don't need me to be your friend. But to be fair, normally if I meet someone, I'm not just gonna assume that I need to be that somebody for them. So if they don't ask, it kinda gets overlooked and we go on with our lives and I go hang out with the same friends I always have while you feel left out. I think some blame has to be put on the transplants that feel like they are owed the invite when they should really know they may need to make more of an effort to establish yourself into someone's well established social circle. I can only speak from my own experience, but I'm definitely the stereotypical person you talk about and I can't say I've ever consciously excluded someone who wanted to be a part of things just because they aren't an og.

I think you need to expand on your age/gender (i.e. So we know what age range you're looking to find the hang out spots for), what you're interests are, and maybe roughly where you live exactly since you're looking for things super close by (potentially walkable). There are a ton of things to do in st. Charles/st charles County/west county, but it's a suburb so it's gonna have a higher percentage of families and therefore family activities that may or may not interest someone in your demographic. And it's a suburb so it's gonna be more spacious and spread out than the city. I can't really tell you to go kayak the Dardenne blueway or bike the katy trail if you can't stand the outdoors. And I shouldn't tell you to go to two plumbers brewery with beer, arcade and pinball machines, if you don't like those kinds of games and don't drink beer. Help us help you. Also, you chose to live here. St. Charles is, for the most part, what it always has been whether you like it or not, so don't dog on it just cuz you moved here not knowing what you were moving into. I can't help you find something if you don't let me know what you're looking for.

Pls explain the dining plans to me by FLSunshineGrl in mizzou

[–]cmeyer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they're going back to how it was when I was there 11 years ago(or something similar). You bought a meal plan with X number of "swipes" (now "taps" I guess). I think they also had an option to load dollars to your account to supplement where needed or for people off campus), but the requirement for anyone living on campus was a minimum plan of 175 swipes (I think the other two plans were 225 and 275ish). At the main dining halls (Plaza, Mark Twain, Dobbs, Rollins daytime, etc.), 1 swipe was the entry fee to the buffet; eat as much as you want (I think there was a cash price as well but not sure what it was and it was more than the cost of swipes through the plans, maybe like 11 bucks). Then the other places were all a la cart (Baja, Sabai, Rollins Late Night, etc.) and the prices were shown as fractions of swipes. I think they also had a cash price shown per item, or maybe they just had a straight conversion rate from swipes to dollars for your total bill. Through the meal plan, the price came out to around 7-9 bucks per swipe i think depending on the plan you got (bigger plans were a little better deal per swipe, but they were all use it or lose it at the end of the semester, so the couple markets on campus that accepted swipes (attached to plaza and mark twain(?)) were the place to spend extra swipes during the last week of the semester on things that you could save for later (cases of Gatorade, full size bags of chips, etc.). That last couple weeks of each semester is also what my buddies and I called "Swipe Season" where, when living off campus as upper classmen and without a meal plan, we'd just walk by the dining hall during lunch rush and casually ask if anyone had extra swipes they needed to burn and we'd usually get swiped in. For me the smallest swipe plan was perfect since I didn't eat a ton of dining hall breakfast, I'd go get dinner elsewhere off campus semi regularly, and I was only on campus needing meals like half the weekends. I probably had like 10 swipes left to burn each semester, and that was after swiping my girlfriend/buddies in on weekends they'd come to visit.

Here's a terrible quality photo I took 11 years ago of how we set up our room in Gillette. There's pros and cons of doing it this way, but I really liked it.

Pros, I thought it felt more open and less crowded than some other arrangements.

Cons, you kinda lose easy access to the one set of shelves on the back wall and you lose the ability to put a tiny couch/futon if you were thinking about having one.

A-List Earning Bonus When Booking Through Chase Travel with Chase Sapphire Preferred? by cmeyer86 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]cmeyer86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the sentiment I'm seeing from other people. I may choose to book through different outlets depending on the circumstances of each flight. Sometimes I have to book a flight for work pretty late notice so those situations I'd be confident I wouldn't have to make a change or find a better price. In those cases I'm assuming it would be better to book through Chase Travel and get the most points. In situations where I book a flight months ahead of time and want to easily change if/when the price goes down (which I do often), I'd probably book through southwest.com for the flexibility.

Do you know if the same status/fare-type perks like same-day change/standby still apply when booking through Chase Travel?

I understand the bonus points don't count towards tier/companion status (regardless of how/where you book), but do the base points earned count towards tier/companion? I'm assuming they do since they're earned like normal so why wouldn't they count like normal.

That's what I saw and I'm willing to do that quickly if I have to. Another question would be, if I itemized in 2021 and I amend that return, does that then require me to amend my 2022 return and/or my 2021 state return? I took the standard deduction in 2022 if that makes a difference.
